photo by Caitlin Mirete We've got a sweet list of shows this week, just in time for Valentine's Day. First, Gary Clark Jr. brings his smooth Austin sounds to a sold-out Crocodile tonight. On Tuesday, you can take your valentine to a great show at Neptune Theatre with Dr. Dog . On Thursday, the highly anticipated (and sold out!) Little Big Show is at the Neptune with local favorites Pickwick and Fly Moon Royalty , and the Constant Lovers are at Comet Tavern with guests Blood Orange Paradise, Baltic Cousins, [...]
Bromance. Texting while driving. Late night sing-alongs. Closed sets. Just another trip through LA on tour.
Instead of sending us physical postcards from the road, Ravenna Woods asked if they could send us video ones ... of course we said yes! In our first video diary we find Ravenna Woods fixing chains with shoelaces (which seems totally safe), playing in Seattle, Portland and San Francisco, and learning about the latest bizarre [...]

photo by Renata Steiner ( view set ) Seattle locals Ravenna Woods have carved out an existence all unto their own. They have taken the typical Seattle folk-rock sound and mixed with a dash of punk, a pinch of what used to be called math-rock, and thrown in a lot of experimental textures to create a driving and enticing sound that has only remotely been seen in the likes of Maps and Atlases . The band self-released Valley of the Headless Men last year and it is available to stream and [...]

Fitz & The Tantrums at Bumbershoot Music Lounge photo by Dave Lichterman We finally got snow in Seattle! For those brave enough to venture out in the wintery elements, this week has a few notable options. On Wednesday The Wailers bring their legendary Reggae act to Neumo's - this is a chance to get up close to some true living legends. Thursday has another great show at Neumo's with Youth Lagoon coming out of hibernation, Shaprece and Reva DeVito bring their unique Northwest flair to the Crocodile, while Gabriel Teodros [...]
Ravenna Woods at the Summer Bonfire Series ::: photo by Abbey Simmons One of our favorite new things in 2011 was Artist Home's (the fine folks who put on Doe Bay Fest and Slack Fest) summer bonfire series at Golden Gardens. A free outdoor show and bonfire with surprise performers, we got to see Bryan John [...]

King Melodies - Fog Over the Graveyard Veronica Falls - Found Love in the Graveyard Sick Figures - Graveyard Swagge r There were plenty of graveyard themed songs to choose from this year and it just so happened to fit right in this 16 song and 60 minute long mix. The bands featured are worth a serious look especially ones like Jared Mees , Veronica Falls , Feist , Ravenna [...]
When Chris Cunningham from Ravenna Woods emailed me this week to tell me about a new Ravenna Woods remix, I got really excited. I was hoping Cunningham had said remix on accident and what he'd meant to say was collaboration. With Champagne Champagne. Ever since the unlikely pair took the stage together at Doe Bay [...]

These five song should help you kick monday in the face. I've been consistently satisfied and going back for more from all of these guys and wish I had more time to wax poetic on them. But all that really matters is the music and that you have a listen. Enjoy. Ben Howard - Old Pine "As the old pine fell, we sang just to bless the morning." This UK singer has one of those voices that melts your heart, his debut album is due out October [...]

The block party on my pathetic block in Chicago is pretty much a glorified bake sale with a shitty bouncy castle which I'm not even allowed to bounce in. So the leap from my wholly depressing, completely sober, and awkward neighborhood reunion to the Capitol Hill Block Party is a paradigm shift to be sure. And to boot, it's less of a block party and more of a bona fide music festival that just happens to take place on Pike Street between 10 th and 12 th . But the focus on the Seattle/Capitol Hill district community [...]
Beat Connection ::: photo by Josh Lovseth You know what the most unfortunate thing about the "Saturday" of Block Party is? The fact that it starts at doors start 1pm. The number of people bitching about the hot nice weather blackouts will undoubtedly increase. You don't care what children do before they enter the festival gates. [...]
KEXP Concert at the Mural ::: photo by Josh Lovseth Since the weather's not cooperating, we're going to have to take cues from other places to remind us it is, in fact, summer. Things like a partial peek at KEXP's always excellent free summer concert series at the Mural Amphitheater during the month of August. There's [...]
Dear Phil, I'm a terrible singer. My mother once booed me at my 2nd grade talent show because nobody else in the audience had the guts to do it. My unique vocals have been compared to a fox that is getting run over by a lawn rider mower (with a Hemi - no less!). I love [...]
Doe Bay Fest ::: photo by Josh Lovseth In a week full of festival line-ups, there's no denying Doe Bay Fest's was the one we were most looking forward to learning. Alongside many of the expected cast of characters, like four-year festival veterans The Maldives, this year's Doe Bay line-up has expanded beyond its usual radius [...]
Capitol Hill Block Party Dance Party ::: photo by Josh Lovseth With the sun finally out two days in a row, summertime and festivals don't seem so impossibly far away. With the initial line-up announcement of Capitol Hill Block Party this morning, we can almost feel the sweat and taste the cheap beer. Here's who'll be [...]
