Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News On Wednesday night, the 2011 Grammy Awards nominations were announced during a special concert on CBS. The first surprise of the evening was that raspy folk-soul singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne will be up for Song of the Year for 'Beg Steal for Borrow.' His competition for that award includes Eminem , Cee Lo Green , Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert , who also performed [...]

And this will be the final New York mix. There are still plenty of songs that I have not used, but 92 New York-related tracks should suffice. In fact, I'll add on eight tracks to round the number up to 100. The timeline on this mix spans 116 years, which surely is quite unusual as far as mixes go. So we have the U.S. Marine Band from 1894 and two songs from outstanding 2010 albums, by the wonderful Caitlin Rose and Ray Lamontagne. I owe the Ben Sidran track to reader Marivic (thank you). [...]

Ray LaMontagne is a love-jinxed troubadour, carrying an old soul. According to lore, during a spell working in a Maine shoe factory he was sparked to kick start his music career after hearing the Stephen Stills tune "Treetop Flier" by way of transistor radio. Four long-players on, the singer-songwriter has waxed the dazzling God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise with his gutsy backing band, The Pariah Dogs—Eric Heywood (guitar), Jennifer Condos (bass), Patrick Warren (keyboard), Eric Heywood (pedal steel) Greg Leisz, (pedal steel) and Jay Bellerose (drums). By album close, LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs [...]
Ray LaMontagne might be rolling on Shabbos by taking on Bob Dylan's "The Man In Me"
In the decade since the runaway success of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack - which took home the Grammy for Album Of The Year in 2002, and has sold over seven millions copies to date - T. Bone Burnett has been the go to producer for modern day roots music. Burnett, who has had a startling success rate and a mantle full of awards to confirm it, was so inspired when he heard the music of The Secret Sisters that he launched his own label Beladroit Records just so he [...]
Crazy If you spent any time in 2006 you probably heard Gnarls Barkley's Crazy. A song that was everywhere you looked. Fast forward to this cover, soulful crooner Ray LaMontagne covers Crazy, makes it his own, and its totally fantastic. Can't help but love this version of it.

Ray LaMontagne 's latest disc may not have inspired as many critics as Gossip in the Grain did. Nevertheless, there are still gems to be found on God Willin' to be sure. One such track is 'Beg, Steal, or Borrow.' It's a rootsy descent into Joni Mitchell , steel guitar, Dylan , and Americana. [...]

Check out this cover of Gnarls Barkley 's 2006 smash hit Crazy . A track that's been stuck in each of our heads at one point or another. A soundtrack for numerous commercials. And highly covered by endless artists, yet this version captures such softness, temper, misery and attachment in a way only Ray LaMontagne can pull off. Taking things real and fast. MP3: Crazy (Gnarls Barkley Cover) by Ray LaMontagne
In 2003 power-pop act Fountains Of Wayne became household names behind their seemingly ubiquitous hit Stacy's Mom from their highly recommended album Welcome Interstate Managers . The New York-based quartet, whose last release came out in 2007, will hit the road this fall as a way of road testing new material for their next studio effort which will hit stores early next year. The band's short ten-date tour will hit markets on both coasts including a high profile appearance at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and a hometown gig at Bowery Ballroom on Oct. 7. [...]

God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise is LaMontagne's 4th full length album and his debut as a producer with a full back up band featured on the cover. The album starts with a bang as Ray's strong gritty vocals are in full effect during "Repo Man," which also does a good job of featuring his new band mates the Pariah Dogs. The opening tune is upbeat, strong, and bluesy as all get out, but the next couple tunes returns Ray to his bread and butter - slow melodic songs with lamenting lyrics. "New York is Killing Me" is [...]

With three rather successful releases under his belt, Ray LaMontagne decided that he needed a change for his new studio album. The singer-songwriter , whose previous albums were all produced by Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Kings Of Leon, The Jayhawks), ditched outside help and fancy recording studios all together opting instead to record at his newly restored historic house in Western Massachusetts and produce the LP himself. After two weeks of sessions, LaMontagne and his newly named band - the Pariah Dogs - walked away with their "debut" album [...]
