Prior to the release of his third album on the 28th August Stephen Coates, a.k.a. (The Real) Tuesday Weld, has released a wee teaser track entitled Last Words. It's a bit of a departure from earlier stuff, being more of an easy, electro-tinged pop song where his previous work has largely been along [...]

"Imagine an English - speaking Serge Gainsbourg rolling around Tin Pan Alley with synthesizer in hand." – The New Yorker "Pairing Portishead 's dark theatrics with Serge Gainsbourg's dirty-old-man mirth, Coates' melancholic take on love is devilishly good!" – Wired The first thing that strikes you about any album by Stephen Coates (aka The Real Tuesday Weld) is the fact that every element in his compositions seems to be drawn from sources many decades old. The second thing that strikes you is that his music sounds [...]
The Real Tuesday Weld is really Stephen Coates, a brit rocker. His new CD The London Book Of The Dead is going to be released on Aug. 27, and it will surly be a hit. The Real Tuesday Weld has a very dreamy, Postal Service esque, electronic feel. It has some interesting synth sounds, and Coates' voice is oddly soothing. Coates sings in a subdued deep rasp. The song is really good, but my only gripe is that when ever I listen I just hear things from other famous songs. I hear noises from Radioheads creep, beats from the Postal [...]
Hate to say it, but It's not easy finding good tunes. And it's especially not easy finding good tunes you can throw on almost anytime, anywhere and in any mood. That's why it was so nice to come across a lovely new Stephen Coates song today. Just one song and I already want the whole [...]
Unless you were born with one of those silver spoons, you likely work a day job, sneaking time for your own business when not taking care of someone else's. You're not alone. Every week, Brandon Stosuy finds out how our favorite indie artists make ends meet... Portland's Blitzen Trapper have been self-releasing music on their Lidkercow Ltd label since 2003, but it wasn't until their third full-length, this year's Wild Mountain Nation , that their madcap, literate, rootsy indie-Americana psychedelics caught on with bloggers and scribes, landing the group a Sub Pop contract. [...]

Stephen Coates, británico, alias The Real Tuesday Weld . Wells, Lovecraft, Syd Barret, João Gilberto, Martin Denny, Brian Wilson, The Beatles, Prefab Sprout o Portishead. [...]

Stephen Coates is The Real Tuesday Weld (photo: Paul Heartfield ) My first exposure to actress Tuesday Weld was her starring role on the cover of Matthew Sweet 's Girlfriend album. She looked adorable and sweet (no pun intended) and mysterious and mischievous all at the same time. My first exposure to The Real Tuesday Weld --the musical experiment of one Stephen Coates --is with his newest release, [...]
I think I may have seen the year's best threequel last night at a sneak preview of the Bourne Ultimatum. It did a fantastic job of staying in line with the style of the series' first two entries and it wrapped up all of the loose ends nicely, so I could not have asked for more. If you're looking for something that has a wealth of smart dialogue and even smarter action scenes then you need to see it when it opens this Friday. In an unrelated note, I put together an EP that's meant [...]

The Real Tuesday Weld is releasing a record, The London Book of the Dead , on August 28th via Six Degree Records . And who is The Real Tuesday Weld? Stephen Coates. The label says, "Amongst the whimsy and humor [of the album] are lyrical concerns drifting between such weighty topics as death, religious faith, honesty, drugs, and disease." "The album's emotional center is actually located at the end of the program: "Bringing the Body Back Home," despite its generally gloomy tone, it's a sweet and ultimately encouraging waltz [...]
Before I start, check out Blender Mag's list of the best music cameos on the Simpsons . Maybe you agree and maybe not - but heck, it's a ton of awesome clips (Barry White on Whacking Day, anyone?). YouTube proves its usefulness once again. And now! Music. I was cleaning out some of my old folders and found some good stuff. Download it all ... every single one is worth at least 30 seconds of your listening time. 01. Fujiya & Miyagi - Collarbone 02. [...]
I have a few miserable pals on the blogosphere at the moment. Mind you, given the diaristic (yes, I know that's not a word - like a diary... mmm, diuretic? - no, that's worse... Seesh, didn't even close the brackets. Where was I? Ah, yes, given the diuretic nature of the blogosphere I suppose this shouldn't be [...]

There's nothing I love more than a nice rainy day. Listening to the pitter patter of raindrops falling on the roof while curled in a blanket is a nice way to spend the day. Plus, you don't feel bad about not going out since there's nothing you can do outside. Of course, I went running early this morning when it was still a light drizzle and realized that it was not such a good idea. Slippery sidewalks and the numbing cold rain are not conducive to a successful run. Anyway, make sure to stay dry today. Get something [...]

Mayne Island, or thereabouts, 30 Dec 2006 It's a bit odd, really. I've been finding it rather difficult to get this year going. No particular reason springs to mind, but it does seem to be taking several attempts to get it's motor started. Of late it's rather like the Squealing Pigmobile, which has been requiring several turns of the ignition to wake up on our sub-zero mornings. Well, we'll keep at it and hope to find our stride soon. I hope you all had the holiday season you wished for. Ours was [...]

Play it: "The Ugly and the Beautiful" - The Real Tuesday Weld ( season 4 promo ) Play it: "Strict Machine" - Goldfrapp ( season 4 promo ) The 4th season of Nip/Tuck premieres in just a few hours, and if you've been watching the FX channel at all lately, you've probably been inundated with promos featuring these two songs. The Real Tuesday Weld 's [...]
