If Sasquatch 2013 in Quincy, WA will be your first entry into your festival diary, you've made a grave error. Everyone knows you have to start with a feeble local festival, boasting maybe one act you've heard of and where the ticket price is a whopping zero dollars. A festival where ultimately you'll walk away with an unaffected attitude and a feeling of time wasted. By ignoring this rite of passage, you've ultimately set your standards too high and only a select handful of festivals will ever be able to match up. Essentially you're now experiencing what [...]
Red Fang will return this fall with an as-yet-untitled third studio album. The Portland-based group is currently in the studio finishing the disc with producer Chris Funk (Decemberists) and mixer Vance Powell (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Kings of Leon). The band comments: ?We?re hyper excited about this new album. The basic tracks are like rabid ... Read More/Discuss on Metal Underground.com

Hopefully we'll get to hear both before 2013 is out.

Let us go back to 2008. Some of you may remember it. Most Intrigued Vinyl posts were about albums recorded before I was born. I can't help liking cheesy 80s album art and music that is packaged with it, okay? So hopefully this one will be a change. How do you feel about some stoner metal? Torche was formed in 2004 in Miami, Florida. They released, this album, Meanderthal in 2008. I must say, for those who have never listened to stoner metal before, or hate it, this is extremely listenable. If you [...]

This week we're turning over the Sunday Slaylist to something a little different - we want you to go buy something. On Monday 18 February, Pat Egan, Relapses Records' Director of Retail Sales, died following a the result of complications with a case of pneumonia . To raise money for Pat's daughter's college fund, the folks over at Relapse have gone and put together a compilation of 20 of the finest bands ever to have worked with the label - and we think it'd be a damn fine gesture if a few of our readers joined us in buying [...]

Last August, Atlanta sludge rockers Baroness and members of their road crew were severely injured after their tour bus crashed into a viaduct outside of Bath, England. With the band still recovering and medical bills piling up, several of their friends and family have set up a charity auction via the Baroness Relief fund . A Facebook page for the campaign lists a number of exclusive items, including signed vinyl from Kylesa, a snare drum signed by each member of Neurosis, a Line 6 amp from Meshuggah, a beer holster from [...]
The proceeds will benefit the family of the late Pat Egan.
RED FANG, FEDERATION X, DOG SHREDDER ( Wonder Ballroom , 128 NE Russell) Who needs a face? You'll happily watch it melt off with the beer-drenched rock 'n' roll of Portland's Red Fang. Happily! Your body will be so busy shreddin', it won't even notice. Just shotgun a couple PBRs, then get that face-less head a-banging,f because these boys don't play around town as much as we want 'em to. COURTNEY FERGUSON COHEED AND CAMBRIA, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, RUSSIAN CIRCLES [...]

The Helio Sequence plays Neptune Theatre this Sunday photo by Dave Lichterman As we rip through February, things are heating up in Seattle. Some great choices this week. On Tuesday night, "roll-up" your Mardi Gras sleeves with Cam'Ron and Nacho Picasso at the Crocodile. On Wednesday night, have some fun with Debacle Records and Daniel Bachman, Jordan Fuller, and Lori Goldston at the Rendezvous. Thursday, enjoy a killer dark synth show at Chop Suey with Black Marble, Stephanie, and Tokyoidaho . Also, The Growlers, Night [...]

Festival line-up announcement season is in full swing, reminding us that the cold will soon let up and we'll be able to rock out to our favorite music in the sunshine. Every year, we rave about how incredible Sasquatch! Festival is, with the breathtaking views of The Gorge in Washington and the laid back vibes you get camping with mostly Northwesterners and Canadians (they are SO nice). This year is no different. The Postal Service continue their tour of festivals with a headlining gig this year, joining Mumford [...]

(David Sullivan of Red Fang) (Andrew Fidler of Black Tusk) Vacation kept me from posting these photos of Red Fang and Black Tusk from last Thursday (Nov. 8) at Kings. It's just as well since I didn't get many photos I was happy with. Both bands rocked, but I was especially impressed with openers Lord Dying, who opened for Witch Mountain at [...]
Red Fang drew my attention first during day two. Contrary to their name, Red Fang?s bite energized rather than paralyzed the crowd. Although they came from the land of fog and towering trees of Oregon, their riffs were the size of Texas and filled with a gritty quality not unlike the festival?s dusty, trodden paths. Their catchy rhythms, guitar sol... Read More/Discuss on Metal Underground.com
