Here's part two of the Chill Sessions series, something I'll keep on doing from now on (next to the banging tunes of course). I'll start this off with a real classic by Digital Mystikz (Mala and Coki). They were part of the majorly influential South London dubstep scene around 2004 (with Benga, Skream, Loefah and many more). This track is from 2006, and I can definitely tell you that this track is just timeless. Digital Mystikz Ft. Spen G - Anti War Dub The next two tracks are [...]

We always need fresh angles here at JTTS, where beer drinking and real life often prevent us from posting songs and news items before our competitors do. So in the case of this new joint, " East Coast Renaissance ," we'll be focusing on how Mass native Reks rocks the cut. Who am I kidding? We're simply throwing it up like everybody else - just a week or so late. What I will say, however, is that the upcoming project from The Closers ( Shabaam Sahdeeq, Red Eye, and Thorotracks [...]

For those that want more drum and bass, I got sent a track by Trixta a while ago but had to hold onto it cos he was working on something else. I have no idea if this Trixta is the world record breaking Trixta that mixed with 6 turntables at once, but the tunes are sick. Apparently he made this DnB tune for a party he was hitting up, all in a few days work. Im glad I waited though, [...]
Thetford's Franko Fraize and Lyrical T first EP is here - 'Something in the Making'. Kicking off with a couple of string-laden Hip Hop tracks before a Grime excursion on 'MCs Don't Know'. Then you get 2 more slabs of Hip Hop until the Shakedown sampling dubstep haunter that is 'Seems I Can't Deny' wobbles speakers. Dubby Reggae comes next followed by some Bassline-ish Dubstep whilst some Electro-Dub finishes things off. You get the picture - when Fraize raps "I'm not straight Hip Hop, I crossover" on 'Something in the Making', he meant it. This approach certainly keeps [...]
If you aren't going to watch the video, then you can read this little summary of how the lead singer of Fucked Up got to be on Fox News. In an end-of-2008 wrap-up, Gutfeld mentioned Abraham's band's album, The Chemistry of Common Life , as his favourite disc of the year. Abraham got wind of this through the owner of his band's label, Matador Records. "I thought it was a joke," he notes, then emailed Gutfeld to thank him. Soon after, Gutfeld invited Abraham onto the show. Abraham was [...]

The Bank Holiday Weekend has got off to a blazin' start here in Cardiff , both weather and night wise. Kicked off Friday with French Mash-up pioneers Loo Placido who've been literally mashing up the scene since back in '99 including making a bunch of tracks for the MTV Mash show, one of which Madonna performed live at one of her concerts. It's a scandal they're not better known over here but luckily Glo Bar was rammed to the rim and [...]

We just keep 'em coming, eh? Redeyes dropped a fine album this year, and has a bunch of other things lined-up. Dude is real humble, but speaks his mind as well - very fun interview . Check it out.

RZA " The Walk ( Redeyes Bootleg) ": From Redeyes ' Free Beats Pack #1 (which also included "The Days of Wine and Roses"), Paris' finest liquid monster flips an Afro Samurai soundtrack cut into some seductive DnB. Top notch. PS: Redeyes says a part 2 of this Free Beats pack is coming...

There's been quite a buzz surrounding the demise of Tower from around the web. One of the most telling items comes from a response to Lefsetz' take on the subject from Redeye Distribution's John McGlasson: I wouldn't care at all if they didn't owe our dist. (Redeye) a shitload of money, a screwing that you can be sure will be passed onto us, though Tower bought a bunch of one of our new releases (10/03, John Blakeley/Ron Nagle's Tan Mantis) for cash, something that surprised me, even in bankruptcy, it seems Tower thought if they could make it [...]

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then popular music is ready for induction into the Sincerity Hall of Fame. This month's DJ-produced compilation is Bill Zurat's 2005 marathon collection, Copycats, Imitators and Soundalikes . See if you can identify which well known band is, ahem, being paid homage to in each track below. The first correct listing in the comments section to this post wins the WFMU T-shirt of your choice. Since some tracks rip off more than one band at a time, the [...]
