Redshape have been on top form lately with some brilliant remixes of Martyn and The Black Dog and his debut album "Dance Paradox" appearing towards the end of last year. Keeping things moving along though we get this cracking double 123 on Present. Over the 6 tracks you get the usual Redshape quality house and techno with smatterings of acid and enough beats to keep most dancefloors moving. It's final track "Drama" that stands out above the rest for me though, with it's doomy hook line leading along a nice dark [...]
To these ears at least, Redshape's debut album was one of the best techno long players of '09, so the appearance of Red Pack so soon afterwords is a pleasant surprise. While not intended as a follow-up to The Dance Paradox , this double pack performs an equally important function, neatly encapsulating the disparate dance floor styles that now fall under the masked one's widening palette.
Seems my review of Redshape for Junkmedia is up. Masks have a long and distinguished history in the arts, from Japanese kabuki and the Commedia dell'Arte right through to DOOM , and, um, Slipknot .
