Dan Potthast is perhaps best known as the frontman for St. Louis' finest circus-ska purveyors, MU330. In the years since that band took an unofficial hiatus, he's performed solo and with the Stitch Up. Most recently, Potthast performed and recorded with the more traditional ska outfit Dan P. & the Bricks, which features members of Slow Gherkin. He's getting ready to go on a tour with Reel Big Fish and Pilfers which starts January 5 at the House of Blues Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California. In advance of his six weeks on the road, Potthast was cool enough [...]

I must admit that, when I was first assigned to review Candy Coated Fury I was completely unaware that Reel Big Fish was still making music. Ska, as a genre, seems to have to left the mainstream consciousness and faded back into the niche market that it used to be. That being said, there is a tightness and precision that exists in Ska that I sometimes miss and Reel Big Fish have always been shining examples of that and this album is no exception. If nothing else can be said about [...]
![Review & Photos: Reel Big Fish w/New Town Kings @ Colchester Arts Centre [Live]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4456229_lg.jpg)
It's not very often that the town of Colchester gets many live gigs. So tonight's show is an absolute treat, with long-running American ska-punk legends Reel Big Fish selling out (no pun intended) the converted church venue, the Arts Centre . It's one of the sweatiest nights of my life, and also one of the most fun gigs I've been to in a while, and despite Reel Big Fish being relative veterans of their genre, they can still get a crowd going like no others. Support comes from [...]

Contrary to popular belief you don’t need to surf or own a Jeep to listen to ska, unfortunately for the health fanatics you do need to occasionally smoke a bit of ganja (just kidding…not really). Some like to say ska died when Sublime changed their group members, others like to say it never should have lived in the first place. Both of those previous statements are proved false by Reel Big Fish ’s latest album, Candy Coated Fury . Combining elements of rock, hip-hop, reggae and punk the genre generally produces wildly upbeat songs that are best listened [...]

We wanted to post a picture of Junk Culture 's Wild Quiet this week, but we just can't seem to find it. These things happen. Don't fret though, there's more than that going on this week in the world of new music...if you can call it new. There are reissues from Cradle of Filth and Blackalicious and even a compilation from Elvis Presley (pictured). We didn't expect a new album from Reel Big Fish , but that's out this week too. Also, look out for Ice Choir , [...]

This coming Tuesday, July 31st, 2012 Reel Big Fish will release their 7th studio album, Candy Coated Fury via Rock Ridge Music. The band returns with a hyper-energetic and infectiously catchy ska and witty music reminiscent of their beloved early albums. “This album is a lot like our first two albums. It's got a lot of the same intensity, frantic energy in the music, and the same sarcastic sense of humor. I think these are the fastest songs we've done since those albums,” Aaron Barrett, founding vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter says. “We're [...]

Reel Big Fish has announced they are donating the proceeds from last Thursday's show at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado to the victims and families of the Friday's movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado that took place during a midnight screening of Christopher Nolan's third Batman film. They issued the following statement: Last Thursday night, Reel Big Fish played to an amazing Denver crowd. The night was buzzing with positive energy as the last notes of the horns blared [...]

Here's another sampling of the fine music out your disposal in the Bay Area this weekend! I think that there's something for everyone this week. Thursday, July 19th Ray Davies, The 88 at The Fillmore The Kinks might have been the most influential band in rock. Sure, The Beatles were popular. But The Kinks created [...]

Reel Big Fish were one of my first loves in terms of music. The live album was one of my favourite albums that I could probably sing every lyric to every song, and after not listening to them in a long time, I had forgotten how good the Californian band really were. Saturday was a wonderful reminder. Kicking off with 'E... Read more..
