Refused reformed. "Waaaaah, they said they'd never, ever, ever get back together," you moaned. "Waaaaah, if you'd gone to see them the first time round, your opinion might be valid," we replied. Yeah, the Swedish punk legends were criminally under-appreciated back in the last century. They're finally on the pedestal they deserve to be on these days so, ahead of their Main Stage appearance at Download Festival 2012, let's have a look at how good their New York City return was. Six things we learned when we saw Refused play [...]

Consequence of Sound' s Summer Tour Guide will lead you to the darkest, dankest (not every venue has a ventilation system, folks) concerts where you can dance the night away after spending too many hours in the sun. From Dirty Projectors to Phish to the Diplo/Grimes/Skrillex extravaganza that is the Full Flex Express, we've listed the best and brightest artists that are touring new or as-of-yet unreleased albums , touring around festival appearances, or just touring because it's damn fun. -Harley Brown Associate Editor Feature artwork [...]
50 Kent Ave Photo : www.facebook.com/WilliamsburgP arkBK Hey folks, I've been a little behind in posting about this year's Williamsburg Park Summer Concert Series , but hey, better late than never right? The concert series, formerly held at East River State Park (aka The Williamsburg Waterfront) will take place at 50 Kent Ave (at N. 12th St) in Williamsburg. Here what the 2012 schedule looks like so far: Williamsburg Park 2012 Concerts Jun 15, 2012 Of Montreal, Jens [...]
Banner by Cysquatch Welcome to the return of MetalSucks Question Of The Week, a (sorta) weekly survey of our staff on a recent hot-button issue that's rocking our metal planet. Fearless. Controversial. Half-baked. We give it to you straight every Friday afternoon. Okay not that straight. Here's this week's topic: Inspired by Terror frontman Scott Vogel's [...]

No scene is more antithetical to the jamband-based festival scene than that of the hardcore punks. Since time immemorial (or maybe just since the late '70s, the annals are unclear), the two groups have existed in mutually exclusive worlds. For good reason too; other than sharing the same general mindset of inclusiveness, each group achieves their sense of musical nirvana in drastically different forms. In the time it takes moe. or Phish to kick out one of their epic jams, a hardcore outfit might be able to run through their entire catalog as well as two encores and the noodle-armed [...]
Usually when awesome bands, who haven't played in over a decade, decide to get back together, it makes everyone happy. However, the recent Refused reunion has apparently pissed off Terror frontman, hardcore music's version of Yogi Berra, Scott Vogel. At the recent Groezrock festival in Belgium, the hardcore band's frontman ripped Refused (who went on to ...
We're very excited about the Refused reunion here at MetalSucks, but it would seem that Terror vocalist/hardcore Yoda Scott Vogel does not share our enthusiasm. Here's what he had to say about the band getting back together during a recent concert (video above): "A lot of bands that come around, they do their thing, they tell [...]
NYC has been in a splooge-filled flutter this week largely due to the Refused reunion shows that hit on Sunday and Monday. Only a scant few of us didn't get to see one of these seminal events, but rest assured if you're among the shmucks who didn't make it out there are still tickets [...]
Holy shit, it's Thursday already? Fuck yes! The weekend is just around the corner. Let's get this party started with some new tunes: First up, check out this pretty funny promo clip for Tenacious D's upcoming comeback album, Rize of the Fenix. It's an educational tale of the woes of tinnitus and how the band's ...
I spoke too soon. Recently, I was quick to declare that Ceremony's latest LP was enough of a departure from contemporary hardcore to qualify as constructive abandonment, to borrow from the divorce law parlance. Not quite vested in the scene, Zoo finds the California band shapeshifting like Wire did on Chairs Missing or when loudmouthed [...]
Review of the reunited band's Monday night Terminal 5 gig.
I had so much fun at Refused's reunion show at Terminal 5 on Monday night that apparently, when writing up yesterday's Shadows Fall track premiere, I accidentally tagged the post with "Refused" instead of "Shadows Fall." Whoops! Thank Axl for catching that one before it went up [inb4 "you guys make worse typos all the [...]
Refused - "Summerholidays vs. Punkroutine (Live in Brooklyn, secret show)"
After reunited Swedish punk-rock greats played a sold-out Terminal 5 show with Ceremony last night, they kept the evening going by playing a secret late-night set at Bushwick's Acheron, and it looks like it was fun as fuck. Below, we've got an 11-minute video of various songs that they played last night, and it starts out with a surprising and semi-improvised but totally impressive cover of " Firestorm ," the immortal kill-everybody anthem from their old Victory labelmates Earth Crisis. The guys over at Antiquiet have found a glorious playlist of videos on Youtube of Refused 's face shredding set at the first Coachella weekend. It's viewable in sexy HD and is all pro-shot footage making for a perfect cure to your early week blues. It may only be Tuesday but this is sure to make you forget what the hell you supposed to be doing for a good hour or so. Speaking of which, where am I and what is this pile of paperwork on my desk?!
With their first Coachella 2012 performances a not-quite-distant memory, over the weekend some artists engaged in live collaborations to make for unique experiences in their second fest go-around. John Fogerty joined the Black Keys , Annie Clark of St. Vincent sang with Andrew Bird, and Thom Yorke came out during Modeselektor's set to perform "Shipwreck." The spine tingling magical moment of the weekend was during Radiohead at the end of "Karma Police" when the crowd continued to sing "I Lost Myself" after the band had stopped. Check out the robust gallery of photos above and [...]
Last week, in between Coachella weekends, Refused went north to gig in San Francisco, and SF Stereogum photographer Wilson Lee was there to document the show. Hit his gallery above, which also features shots of the openers the Hives and the Bronx.
You'll have to wait a little longer before seeing Tom Waits and Refused perform on late night as both acts have postponed their scheduled appearances for this coming week. According to BrooklynVegan , Waits' back-to-back appearances on Letterman and Fallon on Tuesday and Wednesday night "will be rescheduled at a later date TBA." As Refused's Facebook reports, "Due to circumstances beyond our control we will not be performing on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show this Monday. They have rescheduled us [...]
Filed under: News Jason Persse for AOL After an opening weekend full of surprise guests both living and dead , the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicked off its second weekend on Friday, April 20, with a rather unpleasant surprise: temperatures well into the 100s. Brutal even by desert standards, the blazing heat kept the daytime crowds a bit thin, lead to massive outbreaks of unfortunate shirtlessness and [...]
