We knew Kishi Bashi from his role as a violinist working with Jupiter One and support for Regina Spektor but had no idea he was a literal Japanese Andrew Bird. Watch above his performance of Atticus, In The Desert off his debut LP, " 151a ". His track was also selected in the "Best of Daytrotter 20123. 151a by Kishi Bashi

Very inspiring string quartet cover of Regina Spektor's shared by Regina's father whom we've met, sweet dear man and her mom, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. check out the video above, amazing, thanks Father Regina! WIth Regina (NYC circa 2010)

“'All the Rowboats' is far and away the most powerful song on the record (if not the most powerful song Spektor has written to date), even if on first read-through of the lyrics, it’s about a depressing pass through a museum. A haunting piano piece does wonders to cut the soul. The piece rises and falls like a boat caught in a sea storm, and you feel trapped in both the calm and comparative chaos until it ends in what could be small explosions, holes being blasted out of the hull, ultimately sinking the ship and all hopes of survival." We debated, we disagreed, we came up with our collective best 50 albums of 2012.
2012 was a very good year for music. Sometimes it's difficult to come up with enough albums for my year end list, this year the problem was narrowing down my choices. Click on the album titles to read the full reviews, purchase the albums, and, in some cases, watch videos and/or download mp3s. Then comment [...]

Thirty-two-year-old singer/songwriter Regina Spektor released her sixth studio album on May 29, three years after her last release, Far. Born in Moscow, Soviet Union, Regina has used her exceptional story telling ability and broad vocal range to create six unique full-length albums over the past eleven years. Her latest work, What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, was promoted through two recent tours, and has received generally favorable reviews from critics. I know I waxed philosophical about the value of an album as a whole earlier this week but don't get me wrong- I treasure my iPod and it is jam packed with playlists with every theme under the sun. Including a "Best of..." for 2012. Here is the ten I've chosen from that ...pretty extensive list that has soundtracked my year. Melanie and Barlow contributed ten of their carefully cultivated choices each to help round it out and here's our official Best Tracks of 2012 . [Tiffiny] Apologies, I Have None - The [...]
What We Saw From The Cheap Seats is Russian-American singer-songwriter Regina Spektor's latest release. I've been chewing on this album for a long time and I still have frustratingly mixed emotions about its eccentricities. Most of it is sheer, breathtaking brilliance. I especially love the cinematic, piano pop opener "Small Town Moon" - seriously, even [...]

Regina Spektor's video for "How" is theatrical, animated and full of the symbolism Spektor fans have come to love and dissect. "How," off What We Saw From The Cheap Seats (Sire/Warner Bros.), still has the quirky nature that's expected, but Spektor has grown up a little, and it shows in this clip. Watch it below.

For a place called the "Music Hall," the Kansas City venue rarely sees a live band performance (it usually hosts theater productions). It's a pity that it doesn't pursue musicians more because it was the perfect setting for the Regina Spektor and Only Son concert. Soft lights wrapped around the performers, leaving them in a bit of a glow. Wonderful acoustics helped carry the sound flawlessly all the way into the upper corners of the balcony. For a performance whose headliner featured a grand piano, this almost felt more like a classical recital than an alternative [...]
Nashville's the kind of town where infamous events are kinda' commonplace. Stuff of legend happens on the regular and it's often pretty bizarre. Ryan Adams throws out a drunken heckler for demanding he play “Summer of '69” (not cool, bro), John Mayer makes a tearful apology to his bandmates at Bridgestone Arena for his racist(?) remarks in an ill-advised Playboy interview (really not cool, bro), Shaun White trashes a hotel room (wait, you're not a rockstar). And in 2007, sweet Regina Spektor collapsed from vertigo resulting from the mother of all ear [...]
