Bolshie Russian-American quirkstrel Regina Spektor is, and always ought to be regarded as something of a fringe player. Sure, much of latest and sixth full-length What We Saw From The Cheap Seats is trimmed with powdery pop propensities that in the wrong, racketeering hands could be sprinkled into a Miley Cyrus record or if tinkled out of the commensurately wrong fingers could be construed as stuff saccharine extracted from some rightfully neglected gobbet of Vanessa Carlton's discography (A Thousand Miles lamentably, inevitably excluded). But in an era of artificiality in which ears mutilated under [...]
Her latest release highlights both her quirkiness and adept nature to do what she does best: make beautiful music. If there are two sides to Regina Spektor, you can classify this album as "Regina Classic". That's not necessarily to classify the other side of her music as "Regina Lite" or "Diet Regina", but there is certainly more character in the classic flavor -- despite how incredibly talented she's proved to be on every one of her recordings. When we were first introduced to Ms. Spektor, she was hitting a drum stick on a wooden...
Regina Spektor 's new video for 'Don't Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas)' continues her work on making quirky, adorable music. Enjoy it below. Her new album 'What We Saw from the Cheap Seats' is available now. Click here to view the embedded video.

Ahora, me gustaría regalársela a mis [...]
Filed under: News , Holy Hell AP Photo, Scanpix Sweden, Ulf Palm Seventeen people have been taken to a hospital after being struck by lightning at Sweden's Peace and Love Music Festival . As shown in the AP photo above, festival organizers set up a makeshift care center to begin transporting people to a local health facility near Borlänge, Central Sweden.

Regina Spektor has always tottered upon a particularly flimsy balance beam, typically falling to the side of irresistible eccentricity but occasionally plummeting into an exhausting pit of whimsical excess that lies on the other. From her debut effort "11:11" that shook up the East Village anti-folk scene and crowned her Queen of the Adorkables, to her transition into more lush, extravagant territory with 2009's "Far" , "What We Saw From the Cheap Seats" is a cocktail of heartbreaking sincerity, puerile outbursts and playful observation that toys with a distinctly darker tone whilst retaining all the [...]
I'm liking Regina's vibe more and more with this album. This video makes absolutely no sense but I bet making it was a blast.

“Today we’re younger than we’re ever going to be,” a line from the opening track of What We Saw From the Cheap Seats , quickly sums up what Regina Spektor is all about. Sure, on the surface it’s a playful declaration of carpe diem exuberance. But it’s also a precious reminder that this is as good as it gets, that everything is slipping away. It’s this wistfulness that has often been missed over the course of Spektor’s six albums, and that’s a shame because she’s actually a gritty songwriter. [...]

2012 has been nothing if not an awesome year for music. The awesome releases will have to taper off eventually because I'm already overwhelmed. We easily started off with a playlist twice this size before narrowing it down to ten tracks a piece. Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles Audra Mae - The Real Thing Best Coast - The Only Place Chris Stowe - Sometimes They Give Us Beer For Free [...]
After last week's explosion of awesome , this week couldn't help but feel something like a letdown in the music-video department. But there was still definitely some heat, especially in our pick for the week's best video, one of the most beguilingly strange and inexplicable clips of the year. Weird anomaly: All five of this week's videos come from solo artists. (That's if we're counting Best Coast as a solo project. Sorry, Bobb Bruno.) Check out our picks below. Read More...

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." -Willy Wonka Best Coast - "The Only Place" If living in California actually is anything like what Best Coast make it out to be in their latest video, I might start believing Bethany Cosentino when she sings, "Why would you live anywhere else?" I'm totally obsessed with this video. It makes absolutely no sense and features Regina Spektor in a fancy apartment/hotel room doing random stuff. Honestly, that's the best description I can think of. She's bouncing around, setting a trash can on fire until a flaming trumpeter emerges, floating in the hallway, breaking shit, and making odd poses under a picture frame. But it's awesome and adorable! I feel like Regina is the sunny version of Fiona Apple. If Fiona were to give someone a shrunken head as a wedding gift I wouldn't be surprised. Regina, on the other hand, would proudly [...]
Regina Spektor publicó el pasado 29 de mayo su nuevo disco de estudio, What We Saw from the Cheap Seats .
