All of you avid b3(mad)scientists out there should know that The Velvet Teen is one of our favorite (and most underrated) bands of ALL TIME. Next up the mix we got some dark slo-mo business from the extended Throne of Blood family, Remain . I think we can safely say the Frenchmen/women are leading the way with this sound, dark analog basslines, new wave industrial/italo influence with a definite techno undertones. Having had a superb start to his DJ/Production career as Stopmakingme, winning attention from his eclectic heroes like Ewan Pearson, Erol Alkan, Optimo and Andrew Weatherall, Daniel Avery now reverts to his birth name to deliver three excellent tracks of modern, original electro for a label that needs little introduction. So it was when I checked out the Remainers , a new (and not-so-new) quartet trading in polished, straight-head pop-rock that's gotten some love on KROQ. THE highlight of the 2010 Boston Music Awards for me was seeing The Remains . Though I wasn't around when the band was in their heyday, I've loved their songs for years and always felt they were criminally underappreciated -- even in their hometown of Boston.
