With the house finally quiet after a day of crashing toys, spit dummies and banana mashed between freshly varnished floorboards I have to choose carefully so that the tiny earthquake is not awoken by an unmerciful indie racket. A song that would not rankle, something that could have fit nicely on that brill indie lullabies comp we've mentioned a few times and has the inherent power to encourage heavy eyelids rather than tonsil stretching. Aha (they're Norweigan so I can use that!), it's gotta be Remington Super 602s 'The Lonely Cowboy' instrumental which is part of their free 'Winter' EP. [...]
BEST OF 2010 : The album isn't dead. But, like the dinosaurs, it may not outlast its smaller, warm-blooded colleagues. In 2010, the EP became something more than a tour curio or a year-end reminder of a band's existence. For bands unable or unwilling to make the artistic and financial investment of a full-length release, the EP became the perfect format: long enough to showcase what a band could do without being too short to pass off as a one-MP3 wonder and just right for self-releasing and giving away free, as so many groups chose to do this year. For [...]

Remington Super 602s Winter EP is five songs and almost nine minutes long. Four of the five are instrumental. And yet, in just a handful of moments, the group says so much: "Sweet Winter" nods to Stereolab and Broadcast's Jetsons aesthetic; "Cocktail Jazz" gives its lead keyboard an impossibly lovely melody to play under the caress of an unexpected string section; "The Lonely Cowboy," all whistling and Morricone, is a thrilling homage; "Quiet Afternoon In Space" circles back to "Sweet Winter's" frosty sweetness. "Old Man," the set's lone vocal track, is humbly harmonized, finger-picked [...]

i don't know anything about this band except they're from norway and this was (i think) their first release. no idea what everything else they did was like, but i like this off-kilter indie pop. 7" released by mykedroner in 1998? get.

I just heard from Christoffer that he's put up another free download. This time the debut release from his Cafe 2001 [a record company] label, a compilation called "This is the Cafe Superstar beat [volume 1]" . I remember loving this compilation when it first came out, so I highly recommend you grab this. This comp features 14 tracks from Safariari, Micromars, Tøyen, Remington super 60, Påsan, Skistar, EPA, and Anothony Rochester. Compiled by Christer Jensen (Micromars) and Christoffer Schou (Remington Super 60/Cafe 2001). [...]
Blogger has been busy deleting music blogs and the debate rages on . Cannot say I'm a huge fan of these actions, but there are indeed some blogs that deserve all the shit they are (and hopefully will be) getting! Tetris = Therapy has finished recording their debut album Acquaintances and two preview tracks are free to download . The band is still working on the artwork and more importantly on how to release the album. Be it digitally or on CD, [...]

Good news from the Norwegian label Cafe2001 [a record company] . They're offering up a free 5 track download from Remington super 60 entitled the "Winter EP." I still love their first album "Pling20013 and it's nice to see they're back doing what they do best. Listen to Remington super 60 - Sweet Winter http://www.shelflife.com/mp3-b in/sweetwinter.mp3 Download the EP
Finally it's December; the month of Christmas. And finally the day has arrived where it's completely ok to start posting Christmas songs and (more importantly) share my wishlist for Christmas. And kicking off with the later, I do think my wishes are once again very modest and reasonable, as the list has been trimmed down to include just one thing; Keira Knightley ! Who, when I think of it, has been the only "thing" on my yearly wishlist for the past many years ! But despite my humble wish, I have a nagging feeling [...]
It's the first day of Winter, the longest night of the year (YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! WE GET MORE DAY LIGHT AFTER TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!) so I thought I would share some of my favorite winter songs, and some not so familiar winter songs. Starting off the festive solstice, here's another one that could be categorized under "lost radio treasure." Surely a song that doesn't get nearly enough spin time on the radio these days... Milan-Wintertime It's perhaps one of the coldest days/nights of the year here, perhaps one of the coldest nights [...]

Way back in December I had someone from the band Remington Super 60 e-mail me about a Christmas EP that they had made available for free download. I checked it out and a few more of their songs on their website and was surprised to find that they had been putting out fantastic music for nearly 10 years now. A quick search on The Hype Machine came up with virtually nothing except the same few tracks from the EP. I don't know how this band has kept below the radar for so long, maybe because they are Norwegian, but I [...]
Sign you're listening to too much Christmas music #2: You find out about most of the new artists you come across from their Christmas music! The thing about Christmas music that perpetuates the sheer amount of junk to plow through in the stores and on the airwaves is that most artists treat Christmas music as a tacked on product. They already had their studio success, they may have come off a popular tour, they are being downloaded at lightning speeds on the Internet, and they want their names to stay in the public [...]
Despite a universally poor year for indie music redemption it seems is going to come towards the end from the unlikeliest of sources. Yep, this December there has been a batch of revelatory new Christmas records. Being a fiend for all things Christmas this pleases me quite a bit, so much so that I am already hording tunes for next year's tinsel onslaught. Here is another classic in waiting

Sitting here this frosty Sunday evening enjoying the Packers game and spending time with my little family up here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The holiday season is fast upon us and we're in full-Christmas shopping mode. Small fowls have been purchased for cookie, stockings have been hung, and our miniature Christmas tree is glowing brightly near the decorative brick fireplace. The only thing we're missing is some holiday tunes. Luckily, our inbox has been filled with lots of treats from musical Santas all over the world. Over the next [...]
