★★★☆☆ Bass — a twin stroke turbo of skidding past your ears and shuffling your vital organs. Booty-hunting ragga — brought in to hype the party until the cops shut it down. And dusty dub — sent bouncing into a saw-toothed spotlight. Even if you think it’s a 19-track statement featuring a lot of familiar sounds, faces and samples — as big a rush as Bring the Ruckus provides, there’s no denying some same old stories — it seems to be filling a nice gap between EDM and bro-step through its big dipper of [...]

British ragga-rave outfit Freefall Collective issued their well received album Sounds Out Of Time on the recently launched Supafrequency label in September. Propelled by their years of experience performing live, and the recent success of their dance floor stormer "Ganjaman," the group continue to carve out their own beat-laden niche that seemingly draws influence from '90s acts like The Prodigy and The Shamen. The five-piece bring the noise on their Big Shot Guest Mix featuring tracks from their new album as well as scorchers from Zeds Dead, Rack n Ruin, Rennie Pilgrem [...]

Quite some time has passed since the original by @cutlaroc was let out of the @skintrecords bag but now we are fortunate to be able to listen to some creative remixes by some highly credible producers. Breakbeat veteran @afghanheadspin takes a bit of a tangent on his usual style and has a bash at doing a remix with a moombahton vibe. The track works very well with the dutch style piercing high tones and the grime depth for some serious grinding. It's a big room party piece with a touch more [...]
Bush Doctors, who took their name from a reggae master's Peter Tosh album title have released a horrifically groovy EP named "There's a Ghost In My House" . Ghetto funky house by award winning producers Jem Panufnik and Rennie Pilgrem and vocals by Heather McCallum. Here is the video for the original track: Tweet
140 BREAKS BOUNCE - Long have I searched for a press shot of Rennie Pilgrem looking cheerful. Slightly amused or perhaps even wistful would do but alas, there are none. In every shot I find he looks as though the camera man has framed him up, called his wife a hussy and released the shutter. Music has come full circle for this dude, I'm sure he was already a deft hand at this the first time 140 breaks came around.Free download through the Soundcloud so he can't be all that scary. via [...]

UK-based breakbeat pioneer, RENNIE PILGREM goes back to his roots and brings his influences into 2010. Street Legal 2 (another double EP) combines dub, blues, and even Jazz influences underpinned by a love for beats. There's plenty of room left for the dancefloor on this record but some tracks are more for your ears than your feet - better yet, some do both. "Dalek" is such a track, morphing funk, breaks, and hip-hop into a jam that can get your feet and mind moving. Download audio file (Dalek.mp3) [...]

Rennie Pilgrem presents 'Street Legal Vol 1' This double EP represents a bit of a musical departure for Mr Pilgrem . Increasingly bored with making music with nasty noises, he has firmly rediscovered his love of funk and this is the first of a musical series that is all about the good groove regardless of tempo (but created in a modern context). This increasingly talked-about ‘new genre' has also become known as Nu Funk . ‘ Dance With Me ’ is [...]

TFM recently had the opportunity to catch up with one of the more influential members of the old school Breakbeat scene - pioneer of the Nu School sound, label owner, producer/artist, etcetera - Rennie Pilgrem. To try to encapsulate the extent of Rennie’s impact would be exhausting, so I’ll refrain. Here are a few words from him regarding the past, present and future. Enjoy. Where do you draw your inspiration from these days - what keeps drawing you back to creating music in the dance arena? These days I have [...]

Got this track here when Rennie Pilgrem, Adam Freeland, DJ Icey, Stanton Warriors, Meat Katie, Uberzone were all flatmates back in the day. It's a shame they all went off on their own seperate ways. Rumor has it DJ Icey doesn't courtesy flush. NSBB.mp3 spread the love:

If you're looking for a party this weekend and it isnt ATGs DO ONE @ Russian Bar, then the TCR BBQ is definitely a gooen if you on the breaks flex. This annual event has been a mainstay of the scene for the past seven years, and is famous for the extraordinary level of carnage which goes on. Kicking off in the afternoon on Saturday and running till 3am. We're particularly looking forward to catching B.L.I.M. , an artist who's disappeared a little bit over the past year, but who has been responsible [...]

Now here is a post worth reading. One of my favorite dj/producers, Zodiac Cartel , has sent me over the first of his 6-part series track release titled "Weapons of Choice." I find the twisted fidget sound in his tracks completely unique to any other genre/producer out there. Zodiac fuses that thrashy-headbanger style with a distinctive house bassline, tying it all together into one beast of a track. Also be sure to check out Zodiac Cartel's soundcloud for unreleased originals and remixes. Enjoy the [...]

I just can't stop laughing at this picture. I have Stumbled Upon it like 245 times, and every time I giggle a little harder giggle. Everything about this picture has accidently hilarious written all over it. I mean, look at his face, he is so happy with his cock mic in hand... and that poor little girl, so innocent and naive, doesn't know anything about what's going on...just doing what she is told and posing for some pictures... and then there's the five year old... And this pic, man I fucking love this pic...a [...]

We wrote about the illusive Zodiac Cartel back in the winter months and feel it's due time for some love again. In addition to a new mixtape (seen in the post previous to this) Zodiac is back in action with lovey remix of Rennie Pilgrem's Drumma. Back when we first wrote about the Cartel there was talk of an alias connection to Elite Force . This has yet to be confirmed on our end. But, never the less offers a pretty slick segue into the the following two Riva [...]
