President Barack Obama built his entire campaign on the premise of hope and change. Along the way, he's realigned the musical tastes associated with the leader of the free world, as evidenced by his love of hip-hop and Al Green and invitations to acts like The Killers and Yim Yames to play the White House. Fun fact: President Bush only had a paltry 250 songs on his iPod . In an effort to further play up his musical savviness (which undoubtedly translates to more votes in the Williamsburg region), [...]

Hi Infidelity is the ninth studio album by REO Speedwagon, released in 1980. It went on to become the biggest selling rock LP of 1981, eventually selling over ten million copies. Six songs from this album hit Billboard charts, including "Keep on Loving You" which was the band's first Number 1 hit, and "Take It on the Run", which reached No. 5 on the charts. Read more »
It hasn't been around for all that long, yet a pre-Internet existence is growing increasingly hard to recall, particularly when it comes to music. In addition to songs, full-length albums, artis... Continue reading "Keep The Fire Burnin': The Hidden Wisdom Of REO Speedwagon" >

Hurricane Ike from 2008. By now everyone should be ready for this big storm. Just remember - when the wind's blowin' stay indoors, and try to find high ground when the floodwaters come. These big storms are products of Mother Nature, who doesn't give a shit if you live in New York City or Podunk, N.J. She couldn't care less if you have someplace to be or something to do, and if you think you are going to show Mother Nature how tough you are then she may just want [...]

Nestled within the pristine surroundings of Rothbury, MI's Double JJ Resort, newcomers to the area could not have expected the transformation that would take place over the extended Fourth of July Holiday. True, the resort held the previous Rothbury festivals, but with bill toppers Bassnectar, Skrillex, Edward Sharpe, and Pretty Lights, Electric Forest Festival brought a considerably different audience than the jam-band heavy editions of Rothbury. However, as in year's past, the cornerstone of the festival is the highly decorated Sherwood Forest. Holding a small stage, Sherwood Forest was also packed with hammocks available to the masses, an [...]
Thirty years later, REO Speedwagon is still rocking strong.
If you've completed high school history, chances are you've heard some talk about "progressive politics" (Bull-Moose, if you know what I mean). Most of us have probably heard of so-called "progressive politicians," but when it comes to the pivotal issues, the things that really matter, like which bands they listened to in high school, many [...]
Ever wonder what will happen during the last five minutes of late-night TV talk shows? Here are tonight's notable performers: The Late Show With David Letterman (CBS): Funeral Party Rerun from March 31. Funeral Party performed "Finale" off debut album The Golden Age Of Knowhere. The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (NBC): Cake Rerun from March 1. The former [...]
As I surfed channels the other night, I couldn't help but momentarily get sucked into an infommercial. It was by Time-Life and for a nine-CD collection - Ultimate Rock Ballads . Hosting the half-hour pitch to earn my affection, interest, and credit card number was REO Speedwagon lead singer Kevin Cronin. His sidekick was some chick who looked like a dental hygenist and likely had no idea who Kevin Cronin or REO Speedwagon was until her world and his collided in this cash grab. Kevin Cronin wouldn't stop smiling. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Michael Buckner, Getty Images A couple years ago, a music festival called Rothbury took place at a ranch in a town of the same name in Michigan. Rothbury immediately burst onto the festival scene with a Bonnaroo -worthy lineup, Burning Man-inspired installations and an infrastructure reminiscent of summer camp for grown-ups. Tens of thousands of attendees swore they would return the following year... but there was no following [...]
As previously reported, jam icons String Cheese Incident will take over the stomping grounds of the still-in-doubt Rothbury Music Festival for their own four-day extravaganza this Fourth of July weekend. Set to run June 30-July 3rd at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan, the Electric Forest 's inaugural bill already includes 51 acts, with even more still to be confirmed. Along with three sets by SCI, the festival will offer such musical heavyweights as DJ Tiësto, Pretty Lights, REO Speedwagon, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic, Stephen Marley, Kaskade, Shpongle, and Railroad Earth. Air Supply - All Out of Love "I wish I could carry your smile and my heart" I usually would choose a picture to go along with the artist that is more in their prime, but I have a little story for everyone. So I love this song because it is on the soundtrack of the movie "The Wedding Date" with Debra Messing (oh how I miss Will & Grace). But to my amazement, Russell Hitchcock, the man on the left in this picture, is a regular at the restaurant I work at!!! He [...]
Well, the holiday is just about over, and people will soon be getting back to their usual schedules. As you may know, we skipped the S-25 Mix last Sunday to present New Indie Christmas Songs. Now, it's time to return to regular programming. If you're not familiar with this relatively new playlist series, The Sunday 25 [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

This is the Week That Was (according to my inbox of band promo PR, personal hijinks and leftwing radical plays): - You like the music of Gorillaz ? Well, it's totally trippier and cooler when heard live, especially from the far flung place of Damascus (where IS that?). NPR has got the full concert right here . - Have you heard the one-off Black Lips track called " Best Napkin I Ever Had "? It's crazy, rockin' and wild, like Grant Hart at his LSD peak fronting Devo or something. You [...]
You Can Tune a Piano but You Can't Tuna Fish was REO Speedwagon's seventh studio album and came out in 1978. It was their first album to be produced entirely by lead singer Kevin Cronin and lead guitarist Gary Richrath. The album was REO's first to make the Top 40, peaking at #29. The album sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. which led it to go 2x Platinum. It's a great album that shows that REO can rock their asses off when they put their minds to it. When I was in high school these guys were [...]

Rolling past a junior high school on the morning commute, I noticed that the final day of class was plastic lettered onto the marquee out front. This week. 11:15. Class dismissed. I still had one more year of junior high when school broke for the summer in '81, but it was the first summer for which I was legally and officially a teenager. I got started quickly, sleeping in 'til ten. In previous summers, I'd be up several hours earlier, my schedule hardly altering from [...]
