Here at The Downtown Lobby we love to see local bands pick up residencies, and are happy to...
I meant to mention this BEFORE the first weekly show from The Drums at The Annex, but sometimes things get by me. Well, we may have let the first Wednesday night of The Drums residency pass by, but fret not, there are three more. On on top of that, the band will also be playing the Northside Festival at Public Assembly in Brooklyn on June 14. As well as another June show at the Bell House on the 23rd. All dates for The Drums are below. The Drums show dates: Jun 10 [...]
Come on down and enjoy a night of beats, brews, and bacon dogs. I like to consider those the three...
Like the Squirrel told ya, Castledoor will OWN Spaceland every Monday night this month. No cover...
Gangi will be playing their final May residency at Spaceland tonight so we are lifting this interview out of our recent archives. The vinyl version of their album A is almost out and they are already working on the follow-up Gun Show , with a title track that sounds like T. Rex and Funkadelic together in three minutes. They speak here months before when issues of toxic mold were much more on their minds. This interview by Chris Ziegler.

You probably don't remember this post from March 6th, 2007, because it didn't really contain anything important. There was a link a story about how the independent music community received good news in the form of an FCC agreement regarding payola scandals. In the agreement, CBS Radio, Clear Channel, Entercom and Citadel were forced to pay 12.5 million dollars in a cash settlement and provide 8,400 half-hou segments of free airtime to independent labels and local artists. Great success, right? Wrong. The Future Of Music Coalition ( FMC website ) examined four years of airplay from [...]

60 Watt Kid is a three-piece that has no laptops, 80-odd effects pedals, no bass, and a helluva lot of creative energy. Dan Collins interviews them after a grueling practice, on a hot night in his yard, around a smoky chiminea. A lhasa poo stands guard.
Juliette Commagere is the former lead singer of the now-defunct Hello Stranger and is currently leading her eponymous solo project. With a penchant for introspective lyrics, a collaboration with Avenged Sevenfold and a Monday night residency at the Echo she is poised to gain ground in the local music scene and possibly on Craigslist. This interview by Steven Martinez.

Art Brut are set to play a four-night residency later next month at Spaceland in Los Angeles. The band will kick off the residency on June 16 and will play four nights in a row wrapping things up on June 19. The band will be supporting their latest album ' Art Brut vs Satan '.
Gangi is the eclectic musical duo of Matt Gangi and Lyle Nesse. Originally from Brooklyn, where Matt wrote and recorded the first album A , they moved to L.A. to get some sun and space and accidentially encounter Mandy Moore. They will be playing a Monday night residency at Spaceland for the month of May. This interview by Steven Martinez.
It's not just Alexa Chung who is embarking on an exciting but time-limited new American career: Art Brut are setting up an LA residency - four nights at Spaceland in mid-June, added to previously announced spells in New York and Chicago. Unlike Alexa, Art Brut's audience will actually have a clue who they are.
Whether Fool's Gold sings about the earth, honey, or how meshuggah you are, the music takes effect in the body's lovehandles. Suddenly, the pelvis and ribcage start a furious ping-pong match against each other. Of all Fool's Gold's residency nights this month, 'twas the eve of April 13 that rocked the most.
In the Henry Clay tradition, they finished their set with a lot more people on stage than when they started. To be honest, by time they played their cover of the Stones' "Honky Tonk Women" to close their set, I was so wasted, I couldn't tell if they had all the members of Airborne Toxic Event onstage with them because I was seeing 1 ¼ people for every person at that point. The great part is that considering there was no stage diving and only one moderately scary wipeout—and I never saw more than a dozen or so (actual) people [...]
