A band from the church of which James Murphy is probably the Pope... Reverend And The Makers Who they are: A whole bunch of folks from Sheffield in the UK. What they sound like: Well, under "sounds like" on their Myspace, it says "the best band you EVER heard", which is both a) vague and b) a bit cheeky, no? You better be careful with that 'round here, chillun. What they actually sound like [...]

This was one of my favorite discoveries of the year. I love the concept of the song, the production, the lyrics, and most of all - the video. It's definitely one of the more "fun" songs I've heard in some time, just considering the simplicity alone. Reverend & The Makers - Heavyweight Champion of the World
(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...

I was going to take today to explore Number 1 Singles all over the world. I thought it would be fun to see the diversity between totally different countries, any country that popped into my head - New Zealand, Canada, Paraguay, Russia. But you know what? It wasn't fun - the same crap is on every chart I looked at. 50 Cent is everywhere. Rihanna is taking over the world. I have no idea who Sean Kingston is or what he sounds like, but he's on every chart known to man. So forget that. (But if you're curious, [...]

It was no real suprise to see James Blunt go straight to the top of the pile this week. All The Lost Souls is his follow up to Back To Bedlam . Second highest entry is Reverend and the Makers in at five. The State Of Things is a pretty decent album. More interesting to me is to see Scouting For Girls debut self-titled offering go in at #12. As you may be aware, I interviewed the band this week for Rock Sellout. It's a [...]

Yorkshire mit seinen Hotspots Leeds und Sheffield bleibt Englands pulsierendes Popzentrum. Neuestes Produkt: Reverend And The Makers . Ihr Song "Heavyweight Champion of the World" ist Dancefloor-Pop für flinke Beine und ein Instant Ohrwurm. Klingt ein wenig wie Sophie Ellis Bextor in Bandform und "without the looks". Nächste Woche erscheint ihr Debut "The State of Things". Reverend And The Makers - Heavyweight Champion of the World
Reverend and the Makers - Heavyweight Champion of the World Toto vs. Rich Boy - AfriD'siac (Uh, by me.) Shop Boyz vs. Everyone - Party Like A Rock Band (By me as well). More in the future.

Forgive me another baby-related post. It is my all-consuming preoccupation at the moment, so I'm sure you'll understand. Anyway, amongst the many congratulatory emails we received after announcing the birth of The Baby Growl , one was from a friend who suggested that like her, we bought a copy of the number one single of the week in which she was born. If that sounds a bit sad, try being a new parent. We'll be holding on to her hospital ankle tags as mementos, and we even got a bit annoyed when her cord clip disappeared. But [...]
Little Man Tate are a four-piece indie band from Sheffield, England. The band consist of Jon Windle (vocals + guitar), Maz (guitar), Ben Surtees (bass), Dan Fields (drums). Their witty and sexual lyrics have gained them an increasingly growing fan base, mainly through Internet forums and message boards, particularly on forums of other Sheffield-based bands such as Arctic Monkeys. In March 2006 they signed to Virgin's V2 Records label. On The 28th August 2006 they released their second single "House Party At Boothy's" a tribute to the best house parties in Sheffield held by close friend Boothy. The track [...]
