This what your redneck neighbor's back yard will look like on Thanksgiving Editor's Note: In the interest of preserving the environment this holiday season, we are recycling some old blog posts. Don't worry - most of the links work. Are you gonna deep fry a turkey this Thanksgiving? Put the fire department on speed dial - especially if you're gonna be hoisting a few. Actually I do have some experience with this, and I will attest that the first and most important step in deep frying [...]

Reverend Horton Heat will be hitting the road in February with Larry and His Flask and The Goddamn Gallows .

Charles Bradley at Bumbershoot 2011 (09/04/11) Words and Photos : Drake Lelane Enjoy the final installment of Drake's coverage from Bumbershoot 2011. -ed. Bumbershoot 2011 - Day 3 For the third and final day of Bumbershoot, I had a special guest with me to start out. My four-year old son Zane, freshly back from a week at Camp Grandpa, loves himself some live music, so he acted as my 'assistant' for the first half of the day. [...]

Every [two weeks?] Jamie Hale takes a long, hard look at the music industry and the blog scene that feeds it. Here, he releases those findings and makes snarky, sarcastic remarks. Admittedly, both Jamie and Knox Road are a part of this scene. So sue us. I stepped into the Knotty Pine on a crisp Tuesday night. The venue, located in Victor, Idaho (population 840), looks like an old mountain cabin on the outside and is decorated as such on the interior. Adorning the walls were photos of bands that have come through next to several [...]

I really like what I'm seeing for the upcoming week in Vancouver. As I'm looking through all the upcoming shows there seem to be a few standouts from the Robson Valley Music Fest as well. The non-stop touring machine known as Reverend Horton Heat celebrated their 25th Anniversary, which occurred sometime last year. As many bands are doing nowadays, they decided to mark the occasion with a special tour. The setlist this time started in chronological order, leading up to their most recent album. After a brief intermission, the Reverend came back out and took requests for whatever songs were called out from the audience (though I have reason to believe the choices were from a small pre-determined pool due to the similarity between recent setlists). Once again, the Reverend broke out some [...]

Nice weather is right around the corner. Know how I know? 'Cause so many bands are loading up their tour buses and vans and hitting the road. To which I say woo hoo! Some are doing club shows, others are gearing up larger venues including festivals (Hello Coachella and Sasquatch!), and there's something for everyone. Hopefully this list will inspire you to get off your couch and check out some of these bands live. We all need a little rock n' roll to make us feel good. If you have additions to the list [...]

The Reverend Horton Heat brings psychobilly to 9:30 Club on Saturday (5/14), and we have a chance for you to win a pair of tickets . From the 9:30 Club May Concert Calendar Preview that I wrote last week: " The Reverend Horton Heat's jams can be classified as 'psychobilly,' and that's exactly what it sounds like, country-punk-rockabilly, shaken, not stirred, with a twist of humor. The Reverend Horton Heat is both the alter-ego of Texan frontman Jim [...]
Before Friday night's concert at Lee's Palace I was trying to figure out how many times I've seen psychobilly veterans Reverend Horton Heat in concert. The nearest I can figure is that this gig would be either the 8th or 9th run. Judging from the audience of greasers and aging rockers, there weren't too many rookies on hand on this night. The only dud amongst those shows was the Rev's last
There's something for everyone on the Toronto concert scene this week. Here's my picks: Duran Duran, The Phoenix, Apr 25 Even if you aren't a big '80s pop fan, there's something to be said about a huge band playing a small venue. This definitely qualifies. Duran Duran's website Reverend Horton Heat, Lee's Palace, Apr 29 I never miss 'the Rev' when he comes to town. The trio put on a

I love the people who read ninebullets. I get some of the coolest suggestions from you guys. Such is the case with this little rockabilly band out of Oklahoma. Now, when I say rockabilly I'm sure you're thinking about the Horton Heats and whatnot of the world. but JD McPherson is far more authentic than any of those guys. Signs and Signifiers sounds like it came straight out of the pre-British Invasion rock and roll scene. Even the production has been kept at a minimum so [...]
