Vitriol It seems almost appropriate that there don't exist any current photographs of Reverie Sound Revue - like a unicorn or your mythical creature of choice, many have never heard of them, those who have probably don't believe they exist (anymore) and even those who believe will probably never get to bear witness with their own eyes, the odds of seeing them together and out in the wild ranging from slim to none. Originally formed way back in 2002 in Calgary, the then-quartet released a self-titled EP in 2003 that largely flew under the [...]

Reverie Sound Revue was the very first post on Golden Bloggen. It has since been deleted and I don't think most people got a chance to read it while it was up so I am re-posting it. This is one of my favorite new slow girl artists. The lead singer has a fantastic voice and performs as a backup singer for Broken Social Scene . Like BSS, RSR's songs are pop epics. They go places you would never expect them to go. "One Marathon" is a 5 minute masterpiece with sweeping solos and amazing songwriting. I have to [...]
Despite members residing all across Canada, Reverie Sound Revue have managed to get together and record an album which, I believe, is in the final stages of completion. I would expect the album and the band to get some much deserved attention with this release if for no other reason than their singer, Lisa Lobsinger, is a sometimes member of Broken Social Scene. On the bulk of their last tour it was Lisa that filled the huge void left by Feist, Emily Haines, and Amy Millan who were all busy with their own stuff. If you saw Broken [...]

Because... I renewed mine yesterday. It's supposed to be a 15-minute affair involving an ultra-mod machine and the seamless union it makes with that chip embedded on the back page of the red book. But that seamless union unravelled the second I discovered that my chip was spoilt. Which led to a seam-filled, four-hour wait from counter to counter. Such effort, just to see the world. Broken Social Scene - Passport Radio (from Feel Good Lost ) With breathless purity, the Scene exhume away the stuffy urbania from [...]

The stunningly beautiful Lisa Lobsinger's profile rose, quite noticeably, when she started touring with indie-rock legends (nay, GENIUSES) Broken Social Scene . She became another member in their ever changing roster of female vocalists (Feist, Emily Haines, Amy Millan). She likes to sing barefoot. When she sang "Anthem For A Seventeen Year Old Girl" my eyes welled up with tears. When she moved, my eyes followed her. I had to force myself to stop staring, so I could concentrate on the other members of the band. Broken Social Scene at Mandela Hall, Belfast = best [...]

As lovely as Florence was, it is fantastic to be back. For all its downsides, I really do enjoy the information overload. I'm obliged to compile my excessive tourism, so expect some photos in the near future. Aside from the camera abuse, I came to a realization that, while live sets remain my bread and butter, I'm really limiting myself by avoiding "normal" studio recordings. There are inevitably songs and artists that I'd love to mention, but unfortunately live recordings aren't always available. However, in an environment flooded with recommendations, I'd really [...]
It's hard to keep up with all the bands that the various members of the Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene are in; it goes from the rad post-rock of Do Make Say Think to the folsky solo songs of Amy Millan from Stars, or to the Feist's cool cabaret. One of the lesser-known bands in that constellation is Reverie Sound Revue. Broken Social Scene concert photo by Kathryn Yu Lisa Lobsinger
