Though I missed ever seeing Tempe greats The Refreshments play (and I had the chance, in late summer 1997, when they played on campus for free, but alas, I had a house party to go to...) I caught on with Roger Clyne's next band, The Peacemakers, right away.I've seen them play about a half dozen times, from tiny Fourth Ave. clubs with $5 cover charges, to the glad-it's-defunct East Side Backstage/

Birdland Return!! "Everybody's Dreaming" – Birdland. It seems Birdland are back!! In the late eighties Birdland burst on to the scene looking somewhat like a ' Midwitch Cuckoo' version of the Ramones or The Stooges replete with a frenzied, amphetamine fuelled sound. They were quickly called the next big thing by the music press, alas timing is everything and the decision to delay their debut album meant that they failed to take advantage of [...]

Weer zo'n Engels bandje.

Louis Eliot & the Embers release new album Kittow's Moor With the crackle of fireworks and the thrill of the fairground, Louis Eliot is back with a new incarnation - Louis Eliot & the Embers . The former frontman of Kinky Machine and Rialto - who scored three top 40 singles in the late 90s - has delivered a most evocative and accessible collection of songs with his first new album in half a decade, Kittow's Moor . [...]

Anyone familiar with Austin, Texas knows that music is the number one export from the city. You also probably know that Spoon is likely their biggest and best known gift to the world at large. I'm in love with this band in ways I can't even describe. Seeing this band play live has felt like a religious experience to me each time I've been lucky enough to catch them. Well, here's where things get a little sticky for me and probably for a few of you as well. If you read the post below, you can tell I'm [...]

I came home from a long day of work to hear just about the best news possible today. That's right, The National are headed to Arizona! A band that rarely ever tours the West Coast, unless they're playing a festival or a few isolated California shows, is coming to visit the desert in October. Fresh off the staggering success of their new album "High Violet", (Which managed to land at number three on the Billboard 200 with 30,000 copies sold the first week) the band is going on tour to promote and celebrate it's release. I saw these [...]
(This is from e-rawk ) "Watching Man City miss out on the Champers league today I couldn't help humming this little ditty from Rialto . Their cross town buddies must have been chortling all through the last 10 min, "not yet, you don't". Or does it apply to Villa, perennial also-rans, likely looking at 6th place for the 3rd year in a row ?" [See post to listen to audio] » [...]

The Henry Clay People is a band that is young but sounds like they've been around for a long time and absorbed a lot of influences. The band's members are around the ages of 22-23, but combine the best parts of The Hold Steady , Pavement , The Replacements , and early Built To Spill and end up creating some magic of their own. This is music meant to be heard loud and live with a beer and your friends as company. It's also music that doesn't quite sound like it could come from [...]

Alright Tucson, you win yet again! You always seem to get the best exclusive shows, though we did get Phoenix that one time. Luckily for us broken-hearted Phoenix souls, you're only a short drive away. That makes me especially happy with the news I just got about this monster of a show on July 21st at The Rialto . The Dodos are going on tour again to support their spectacular album "Time To Die" that was released last September. Seeing that band play would be more than enough reason to drive to Tucson for me, [...]
(Video by Me, Words by Neil) Poster For The Current Tour Rebelution @ Rialto in Tucson, AZ 3/2/10 - Video Concert Review Tonight, Hayden and I yet again embarked on a journey to the downtown district of Tucson, Arizona. This is mainly because the two most popular venues in the whole city are literally right across the street from each other. Anyway, tonight was an impromptu outing to see the pop reggae band known as Rebelution. I didn't even have [...]
Welcome to Staff Trax, the weekly feature here on DC9 where we shed some light on the music we've been enjoying of late, regardless of the touring or album release schedules that tend to bear the... An interesting read at this blog . Seems my hero Louis Eliot, the wonderful singer of the under-noticed 90's Britpop act "Rialto" is releasing new material in 2010. The author writes: "Well, I am delighted to announce that the long-awaited follow-up album is finally being released in January 2010. What's more, I've already had a listen to it and it's brilliant. Kittow's Moor is the first album that Louis has made with his new band, The Embers..." I am super excited. Got to love it when an artist you love keeps on, despite a band [...]

Rialto 's first self-titled album had the right amount of pop, drama, and romance that should have given them a place somewhere up there between Gene, Suede and Pulp had they only come out a few years earlier. They still rank up there, but for some reason never quite caught on with the masses. We are still left, however with a self-titled first album full of songs about missed chances, a girl's broken dreams, and hopeless love. The band's [...]

Toronto - Welcome back to MP3UK, a new series on the Panic Manual which will focus on bands I have discovered thru the now defunct MP3UK group on Efnet that I was a part of back in the late 90s. Debuting in 1998, Rialto was a Britpop band that was about five years too late. Their brand of melodic pop tunes arrived just as Britpop was dying. Pulp was committing commercial suicide with "This is Hardcore", Blur had already taken a step in a more stripped down direction and Oasis had tired everyone out with [...]
(image by lastnightsparty ) Effettivamente è così.

It's dark now when I go to work.....it'll soon be dark as I drive home....The Long Hot Summer has passed us by and soon the leaves will start to turn all kinds of pretty colours and we'll start wearing jackets and the it will get cold and snowy and depressing and I HATE the cold and who cares about snow and DAMN!! It's November and John McCain just won the election and the banks are all bankrupt and the housing market has gone bust and unemployment is at it's highest since the great depression and WAIT...John McCain just had [...]

Rialto were a Britpop band of the late 1990s in the UK and known as the band who were dropped twice from East West Records. The band grew from the Oxygen/MCA Records act Kinky Machine that featured singer Louis Eliot and Johnny Bull. They released their first album, Rialto in 1998, and their second, Night on Earth in 2002. Their most famous single is their debut, 'Monday Morning 5:19'. However the single 'Untouchable' charted higher at number 20 in the UK. Jonny Bull has recently been co-writing songs with singer/songwriter Lily Allen at his studio in southwest Portugal, one of [...]

This female fronted 4 piece from London made hooky, melodic pop. Inbetweener is a fuzzy pop single with sing along choruses. Sleeper Smart Indolent Records (1995) mp3 Inbetweener This London band formed in London - 1984. Creating an "English Urban Folk Sound", mainly free guitars, they were often compared to the Irish Pogues. "Baubles, Bangles, Emotional Tangles is all jangle and about a girl who becomes pregnant but not by the one she loves. Band [...]
