A synth that's a stocking filler … this genius piece of tomfoolery turned up this Christmas and has kept this nerd fully occupied throughout the festive season. It's basically a cheap (£45) tiny monophonic synth that has a ribbon controller instead of keys, one oscillator and a superb filter section, so you can create the harshest of dubstep bass runs right through to the gentle pitter-patter of birdsong. And there is nothing like being able to hoik real controls back and forth while your partner makes pains to ignore your avant garde blips and blops. You've [...]

Thanks to everyone who came to 285 Kent last night for our party with Domino/Ribbon Music, and Todd P, and the Software label. Hope everyone that wanted to get in, got in - I know it was a wet night to be on the sidewalk and shut out of a show. Many propers to all on our surreally good bill, from Four Tet's 8PM DJ set and Geologist's spinning the rest of the night, to Deradoorian, Twin Sister, Oneohtrix Point Never, and John Maus's proper performances, we were all spoiled to have been there. Ryan Muir delivers these [...]

Monday, June 27, 2011 As you've probably noticed by now, on June 30 we're helping sponsor a show that's happening at Spiderhouse Ballroom. A press page with all the info you could need can be found here, but we also thought it would be fun to highlight each of the acts and offer up some of our own opinions. Enjoy. Show Spotlight: Agent Ribbons (ballroom stage - 10:30pm) Here by way of Sacramento, Agent Ribbons make the kind of music that reminds [...]

I first became acquainted with the magnificent Agent Ribbons during the blurry week that was SXSW. Since then, it seems like they've been popping up on my radar kind of everywhere. Playing shows at anarchist-y thrift stores, showing up on mixtapes, on my news feeds (and by "news" I mean Facebook) ...pretty much everywhere. And that's ok with me, it's actually great. They've got that sort of vaudevillian spook thing mixed with a dash of Mirah with a smidge of girl group going on, and it's a joy for the ears. Check out their new video for [...]

Agent Ribbons (aka Natalie Gordon + Lauren Hess) have released their debut video for the single "That's Not Edgar's Heart," which comes off 20092s Agent Ribbons and the Star-Crossed Doppleganger . The duo, whose sound consists of a minimal, indie vibe, that works around sultry vocals, and beautifully, haunting music, have recently released their second LP, Chateau Crone , through Antenna Farm Records . You can pick up a copy of the LP here , and stream the duo's previous releases over on their bandcamp page . <embed height="350" width="425" src=" http://widgets.vodpod.com/w/vi deo_embed/Video.9871446" flashvars="" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="never" type="application/x-shockwave- flash"

"Free shows are the best shows!" announced Natalie Ribbons, mastermind behind Agent Ribbons who headlined an all girl showcase at the Uptown last Wednesday. Amen to that. Originally from Sacramento, these ladies moved to Austin a few years back. It is our loss and their gain. Their time in Austin has paid off with yet more energy and confidence. The set began with an acapella song complete with a cooperative hand clapping game. One song featured masks, another left Natalie lying on the ground, and all brought infectious, barefoot, pogo action. They played a great deal from their [...]
Label: Antenna Farm Records Release date: 02/05/11 Link: Official Site Buy: Amazon I've said it before and I'll say it again. Early 90s alt is back. When bands like The Pixies made albums that stoked the fires of grunge (before the media hurricane of Nirvana arrived and destroyed everyone else in their path) A time when bands made music that could still be fun, loud and at the same time still push sonic boundaries with the help [...]
Muruch's L.A. reviewer Laura Foxworthy caught Agent Ribbon's set at The Bootleg Theater last night. Her review of the concert follows... When I was younger I spent many a night at a local coffee house which décor featured what we used to call early Salvation Army. The place was also home to many wayward drama [...]
I was lucky enough to catch Austin duo Agent Ribbons when I was in San Diego last week. Their indie/garage/pop sound inspired the dour denizens of San Diego to actually dance a little bit, and judging by that scale, they'll likely cause a Ferris Bueller -level dance party on North Interstate when they play The Saratoga tomorrow night. And maybe the next day too when they do a free in store performance at Record Room on Killingsworth as well. The Saratoga show starts at 8 [...]

Sacramento your loss, Agent Ribbons has made their way to Texas and they might be here to stay. They're embarking on a tour through the West throughout the Spring and plan on bringing all of their spunk filled lyrically bombastic theatricality to a city near you! Typically running in minimalist two girl set, Natalie Gordon (vocals/guitar) and Lauren Hess (drums/accordion) crone out songs reminiscent of the Velvet Underground and with a heavy- hand from The Zombies. Don't get me wrong, there is something very raw and modern about the band, but with the same vocal fortitude as [...]

Agent Ribbons With so much identikit ready meal music around it's great to have the sophomore album from Sacramento's Agent Ribbons turn up, with its quirky, that shouldn't work but it does, mix of ingredients. Fronted by Natalie Gordon's sizzling vocals, that sound like a modern Peggy Lee but with a sultry dash of Marlene Dietrich thrown in, the stark guitar/violin/drums produced backdrop swings between baroque pop and dirty blues. I'm Alright [...]
