Thanks to everyone who came to 285 Kent last night for our party with Domino/Ribbon Music, and Todd P, and the Software label. Hope everyone that wanted to get in, got in - I know it was a wet night to be on the sidewalk and shut out of a show. I first became acquainted with the magnificent Agent Ribbons during the blurry week that was SXSW. Since then, it seems like they've been popping up on my radar kind of everywhere. Playing shows at anarchist-y thrift stores, showing up on mixtapes, on my news feeds (and by "news" I mean Facebook) ...pretty much everywhere. And that's ok with me, it's actually great. Agent Ribbons (aka Natalie Gordon + Lauren Hess) have released their debut video for the single "That's Not Edgar's Heart," which comes off 20092s Agent Ribbons and the Star-Crossed Doppleganger . The duo, whose sound consists of a minimal, indie vibe, that works around sultry vocals, and beautifully, haunting music, have recently released their second LP, Chateau Crone , through Antenna Farm Records . I was lucky enough to catch Austin duo Agent Ribbons when I was in San Diego last week. Their indie/garage/pop sound inspired the dour denizens of San Diego to actually dance a little bit, and judging by that scale, they'll likely cause a Ferris Bueller -level dance party on North Interstate when they play The Saratoga tomorrow night. Fronted by Natalie Gordon's sizzling vocals, that sound like a modern Peggy Lee but with a sultry dash of Marlene Dietrich thrown in, the stark guitar/violin/drums produced backdrop swings between baroque pop and dirty blues.
