The Shins [Ed. note: We weren't lucky enough to partake of SXSW's mighty cornucopia of musical delights, but our pal and former Austinite, Sara, made the trip and was just darn cool enough to write this here post for us and you. She highlights some of the best bands listened to and food tasted, and gives some handy tips for any festival newbies looking to go in the future. With seven bands gracing the Canadian Room stage inside The Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Saturday night, there was sure to be a runaway winner at the CMW Indie Awards for 2012. While Saskatoon rockers The Sheepdogs made off with the most awards, including Favourite Rock Artist or Group of the Year, Favourite Live Artist/Group of the Year and Group of the Year, it was Halifax's Rich Aucoin , SiriusXM ($10,000) Emerging Artist of the Year recipient, who stole the show. The Pack AD got things started off and the crowd took [...]

The 30th Annual Canadian Music Week is winding down. A lot of stuff was going on this year - one of the most notable things was the comeback of Canadian rock group, Treble Charger. Do you remember their single from 2000, American Psycho ? Oh man, the nostalgia. Anyways, here are my picks for tonight. ** Be sure to follow me on Twitter @feeonalui and @awmusicblog for live tweets from tonight's CMF festivities! The Indies at Royal York Hotel - Canadian Room. When I sat down with Canada's resident electronic party-maker Rich Aucoin backstage at Vancouver's Media Club, he was just back from a trip to UBC's Museum of Anthropology. "I just like to keep learning," he told me. In fact, Rich visits the big museums in every city he hits while on tour. Later, I watched him put up the parachute and set up the multimedia spectacular for his show and I could understand why a Rich Aucoin show is not to be missed. Now it is your turn to learn all about Rich Aucoin [...]

Rich Aucoin 's P:U:S:H is featured in this animated short titled The Myth of Robo Wonder Kid .

Dine Alone Impressing with a live show is one thing, but eliciting a similar positive response with a record, away from the energy the crowd and the volume of the PA, can be a good deal tougher. Vancouver's Chains Of Love nailed the former and then some at NXNE last year , but despite one of the most impressive things about the show being that they obviously had good songs to go along with their crackling Motown-friendly, garage-soul sound and onstage charisma, I didn't immediately assume that their debut album - whenever it arrived [...]

If you're not familiar with Rich Aucoin then I strongly suggest you start now! His infectious personality and uplifting music is enough to make you fall in love with him. Winnie had the pleasure of hosting a show with Aucoin last year at Fortune Sound Club and let me just say this is probably one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Not to mention his live shows include glow sticks and rainbow tents to dance under! Don't miss his show/CD release [...]

The lineup for this year's Hangout Music Fest is starting to be released via the official Facebook page. Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music Chromewaves When Rich Aucoin puts on a show, it's less of a concert than it is a wild party that Aucoin happily provides the soundtrack for. Confetti, projections and, yes, even a parachute keep his audiences entertained. But that's just the beginning; the Halifax popster behind 2011's 'We're All Dying to Live' plans on stepping it up this summer. "When I play festivals this [...]

Todd V Wolfson I feel that I should say up front that any reservations I have about Kathleen Edwards and her work are entirely my own issues. Since her 2002 debut Failer , I've enjoyed her honest, roots-rock fare but always felt like I expected more from her creatively even though across her first three albums, she'd never shown any signs that she had ambitions beyond being a good singer-songwriter. That said, the fact that she spent her downtime following 20082s Asking For Flowers [...]

Rich Aucoin knows how to put on a great show. His show this past Friday night at The Drake Hotel to celebrate his latest release, We're All Dying to Live, was a multi-media spectacle, with 3 giant screens broadcasting edited viral videos, movie clips and pop-up lyrics. Blasts of confetti were shot out to the audience throughout the night. I had heard before that Rich Aucoin's shows are crazy and now I know why. He is energetic and very personable, but more importantly this guy knows how to work a crowd. Playing a sold-out show at the [...]
