My mama didn't raise no fools. Well, maybe she did (if you're reading this, Mom, just kidding), but I wasn't one of them. I wouldn't jump off a bridge just because everyone else was doing it. I mean, who would? Okay, I know there are some people out there who are born followers, and would do ridiculous things like jump from a highly elevated point just because their friends are, but I'm not one of them. Still, Richard Ashcroft -- formerly of the Verve, sometimes solo, and recently of RPA & The United Nations [...]

Built around a sample from the Stones tune "The Last Time", this is one of the best "radio-pop" songs I have ever heard.

Richard Ashcroft's intimate acoustic set in Boston on Thursday night was an eye-opener for me, on several levels. I was probably the only person there not all that familiar with Ashcroft's solo career, nor his heady days as lead singer and songwriter for The Verve - a well-loved band (especially in the UK) with a rather volatile past, having split up after three of their four albums. I don't know if I was expecting an arrogant front man, or maybe a British aloofness, but I was definitely not expecting a warm, deeply spiritual and introspective songwriter on solo acoustic [...]
I'm scrambling at the day job and in life to get ready for my trip to Scotland in a few weeks, so I've been letting some things fall to the wayside. Bad me I know. But I'm trying to keep on top of it as best I can. Hence this weekly brain-purge, which this time includes: Big Pauper, Beyond My Means Big Pauper is a Portland-based musician/artist/producer who blends electronic music with hip
There was something remarkably calming watching RICHARD ASHCROFT own the stage last night at the Villa Victoria Center For The Arts. The enigmatic and sometimes volatile British frontman first broke... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .
Richard Ashcroft made his triumphant return to New York a day after releasing his latest solo effort, RPA and the United Nations of Sound. The crowd were held enthralled by Ashcroft as he played the first of only two US shows. Ashcroft was last around three years ago with The Verve but this was a [...]

photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin For United , Richard Ashcroft recruited hip-hop producer No I.D., best known for Jay-Richard Ashcroft singles like "D.O.A." and "Run This Town." At its best, it kind of sounds like Big Audio Dynamite, and mixes up Jigga-worthy beats, noisy guitars, and cinematic strings courtesy of Barry White arranger Benjamin Wright. That hip-hop ethos came through in New York, as Ashcroft -- wearing a hip-hop-appropriate puffed out, multi-pocketed jacket and backed by a crack outfit dubbed [...]

Most people probably don't remember that former Verve singer Richard Ashcroft released a solo album titled United Nations of Sound last year. Well, here he is to give us a reminder, with a performance of the opening track "Are You Ready?" for Jimmy Fallon's show. Even a helping hand from the Roots can't save this from being one of the most unremarkable musical appearances on Fallon's show this year, and the host himself breaks out into a few bars of "Bittersweet Symphony" during his intro to suggest that's what we really all want to hear. Maybe next time? [...]
Just like the "super moon" last week, last night was a rare superfecta of late night performances. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart , Duran Duran , Richard Ashcroft , and The Gaslight Anthem showed their new colors on their junkets last night, highlighting songs from their respective new releases. It started off with The Pains of Being Pure At Heart attacking their new single "Heart in your Heartbreak" on Letterman. The lo-fi shoe-gaze Brooklyn outfit have filled out their sound and disposed of any flotsam for a sleek, aerodynamic [...]
