Richard Buckner 's Our Blood was an under-the-radar highlight of last year - a record that achieves the rare feat of drawing in the listener further and further on every listen; as demanding as it is rewarding. Little wonder that Pitchfork ranked him among "the most intriguing songwriters" working right now. We caught up with him in a North London chapel late last year for this sublime rendition of 'Ed's Song'. Buckner tours with Richmond Fontaine this May. May 1 - The Railway - Winchester [...]
As 2011 has come to an end, we are taking a look back at some of our favorite posts of the year by our guest editors. Richard Buckner released his most recent album , Our Blood , last year on Merge and toured in support of it with labelmate David Kilgour . That tour was supposed to hit The Bell House in August but was cancelled due to the hurricane which cancelled every other show that day too. Richard Buckner is once again planning a NYC show, which is set to happen on January 19 at Symphony Space for the "Rebels + Reds" series which pairs an artist with a wine [...]

So, the penultimate entry before Mrs Mackerel finishes off this year's set of Top Ten postings tomorrow is my very own. Without further ado... 10. Milk Music - Beyond Living Although it was released early in the year, I only discovered it recently. A full on, no holds barred, nihilistic 70s punk attitude and the very best of the heavyweight riffs of the grunge era is a mighty powerful combination. One that makes me wish my car stereo went all the way up to eleven. Download Milk Music - Beyond [...]

Richard Buckner - Thief ( Daytrotter Session )

Excellent - a free EP from Selkirk indie rockers Frightened Rabbit , featuring guest vocals from Camera Obscura 's Tracyanne Campbell and veteran Scottish folksinger Archie Fisher . Sounds superrrrb (but then I would say that ). Swap your email address for the MP3s here . Our Blood is the new record from cult singer-songwriter Richard Buckner . His voice is an extraordinary instrument and this set of songs is so strong. All human life is here: love, loss, hope and redemption - it's a brilliant collection of perfectly [...]
Richard Buckner low-key released one of the summer's best, if not the best, alt-country albums in Our Blood . And to remind us all of its tender, acoustic guitar-led melodies, Buckner stopped by the Daytrotter headquarters for a three-track live set. He focuses entirely on Our Blood by playing "Gang," "Willow," and "Thief," a combination of tracks that's perfect for early-morning or late-evening listening. Better yet, maybe you should save this one for when you're relaxing on the weekend with a cool beverage. You can stream and download the session at Daytrotter .

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Our knowledge of Eric Bachmann predominantly resides in his roll as the main man in Archers of Loaf , but as years have gone by, Eric's crafted some beautiful records. Some have been under his own name, but most have come via the Crooked Fingers moniker, and Breaks in the Armor might just be his best non-AoL record yet. Bachmann has this greatly affecting voice, and it's this voice that carries album opener, "Typhoon." [...]
Colin Stetson's new EP, Those Who Didn't Run is out this week. Pitchfork reviews the record and has a " The End of Your Suffering " from the EP up for listening. I picked up some great used vinyl over the weekend at Waterloo Records . I got turned onto Implodes new album, Black Earth while in the store. If you like droned out guitar rock with spoken word echos over the top, this album is for you. [...]
For 17 years now, Richard Buckner has been one of the most unique singer-songwriters going. Eschewing choruses, Buckner writes in a stream of conscious matter that resembles free verse poetry se... Continue reading "Q&A: Richard Buckner Talks Music, Murder and Musical Career Assassins" >
Richard Buckner always felt like an artist you had to meet half way. His songs weren't always easy, but if you made a little effort, the payoff would be generous. It'd be easier not to try, though. That's possibly why one of the best songwriters of the last 20 years has lingered in cult status. [...]
