Richard Buckner low-key released one of the summer's best, if not the best, alt-country albums in Our Blood . And to remind us all of its tender, acoustic guitar-led melodies, Buckner stopped by the Daytrotter headquarters for a three-track live set. He focuses entirely on Our Blood by playing "Gang," "Willow," and "Thief," a combination of tracks that's perfect for early-morning or late-evening listening. Better yet, maybe you should save this one for when you're relaxing on the weekend with a cool beverage. You can stream and download the session at Daytrotter .

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Our knowledge of Eric Bachmann predominantly resides in his roll as the main man in Archers of Loaf , but as years have gone by, Eric's crafted some beautiful records. Some have been under his own name, but most have come via the Crooked Fingers moniker, and Breaks in the Armor might just be his best non-AoL record yet. Bachmann has this greatly affecting voice, and it's this voice that carries album opener, "Typhoon." [...]
Colin Stetson's new EP, Those Who Didn't Run is out this week. Pitchfork reviews the record and has a " The End of Your Suffering " from the EP up for listening. I picked up some great used vinyl over the weekend at Waterloo Records . I got turned onto Implodes new album, Black Earth while in the store. If you like droned out guitar rock with spoken word echos over the top, this album is for you. [...]
For 17 years now, Richard Buckner has been one of the most unique singer-songwriters going. Eschewing choruses, Buckner writes in a stream of conscious matter that resembles free verse poetry se... Continue reading "Q&A: Richard Buckner Talks Music, Murder and Musical Career Assassins" >
Richard Buckner always felt like an artist you had to meet half way. His songs weren't always easy, but if you made a little effort, the payoff would be generous. It'd be easier not to try, though. That's possibly why one of the best songwriters of the last 20 years has lingered in cult status. [...]

Via Cover Me Songs , this was recorded two years ago at Merge's 20th anniversary bash, but just recently released.

Video: Richard Buckner Covers Townes Van Zandt It takes a weathered, well-traveled soul to channel Townes Van Zandt convincingly, but if ever there were a living singer-songwriter to invoke Townes’ forlorn charisma, Richard Buckner would be a safe bet. To wit, here’s the wayfaring man behind this year’s excellent Our Blood singing “Still Looking for You,” complete with damaged drawl and a heavy post-performance sigh.

The songwriter finds his inner Townes Van Zandt // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

I've been a die-hard fan of Richard Buckner from right about the time the Earth cooled, but it's taken me a couple spins to warm to his latest, Our Blood . However, I'm happy to report that my perseverance has paid off, and I'm now feeling it's without a doubt one of the top 20 records of the year. To support the record, Buckner is doing the co-headlining thing with David Kilgour, and since snippets of Our Blood have been [...]
