A couple of weeks ago terrifically named Atlanta rapper Grip Plyaz dropped his latest single, "Died (in Yo Pussy)" (whose title is made all the better by the parenthetical). The track, produced by "N/A" according to the Slumerican Soundcloud, is a bass heavy, twerking jam. The chorus is infectious; it twists an old Richard Pryor joke whereby Pryor explains the unfortunate fate of his father who "died fuckin." Grip has a history of turning one-liners into infectious hooks (c.f., " Fuck Dat Hipster Shit ", " Whatdahellrdoze "), and this may be his best yet. Billed as the [...]
Nice Richard Pryor feature.

Fellow blogger DJ Rahdu fro Bama Love Soul, sent this summery mix for everyone to vibe to. Here's my dedication to my favorite season of the year, Summer, which unfortunately will be leaving soon. This mix is filled with tunes that were released during the months of July and August and is my way of saying thanks for continuing to visit and support BamaLoveSoul.Com . Summer's Gone is just over an hour long but I hope it provides continued long term entertainment! More info at BamaLoveSoul [...]

What makes a movie memorable in my book are the quotes it produces. Why do you think I mention the greatness that is Paid In Full at every opportunity? In terms of Hip-Hop though, a person would be hard pressed to find more motion pictures more influential than The Mack . Blessed with arguably the best soundtrack of all time behind the wizardry of Willie Hutch, the 1973 cult classic remains a bibliography for samples, quotes and overall sermons for dealing with the opposite sex, even if they are outright ignorant on occasion. It's that time for the feature that's all the rage across the world called ... Tattoosday!

The holiday season begins in a few days, and it's going to be the same old blur of unnerving family members, unappetizing meals and unwanted gifts ... and that's just Black Friday! There are a couple more holidays in there someplace, so today we're going to give you something to share - excerpts from some of our favorite comedy albums of the late 1960s-early 1970s! Now I can tell you these are fine to share with grandma and the kids, but know I would be lying: in fact, these are EXTREMELY not safe for grandma, work or children. You will [...]
Madlib returns again this year with this collaborative effort, with Detroit's Guilty Simpson (hence the title 'OJ Simpson'; Otis Jackson being Madlib's real name). The album follows the blueprint of... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Four times a day, often at half hour stretches...there's plenty of time for reflection and the mind to wander. A song to sing. A record to recall. Pete just sniffs along too. The perfect spot is here – no, there. Here – no, there. And no perceived lack of shame to be doing it outdoors at the height of the evening's rush hour. Business men wind their way around Pete's business. I recall my dad saying goodbye to Pete the morning he left for the hospital before his heart operation. 'I'll be back...' he said in [...]

If you've been with us this long, you already know the Warner Bros./Reprise Loss Leaders series wasn't about hit records - although the 1970s entries managed to have one or two hit singles on each sampler. But with the coming of 1975's I Didn't Know They Still Made Records Like This , the label rolled out its big guns. Of the 26 songs included on this two-LP set, six were bonafide Top 20 hits and a few others were FM radio staples. And another thing about this one - it was aimed squarely at MOR audiences. Singer/songwriters [...]
Came across this bit from the old Richard Pryor Show. And those are the original Pips too! (Thanks Josh ) Subscribe in a reader
Fuck Katy Perry and Sheryl Crow—I have rarely seen a band more suited for playing to soggy people on a sunny Saturday afternoon than Natalie Portman's Shaved Head. These party-rock synth kids got some damned lucky breaks to be playing for crowds this big, and they were appreciative, giving and smiley, their keyboardist-cum-bassist-singer wearing a Delicious Vinyl t-shirt and yachting cap like a man steering his hometown crowd towards the shores of Par-Tei. They did all the hits—at this point, they have nothing else to play—and after song after catchy song about sideways ponytails and Bis-esque beard lust, I realized [...]
There's this bit about clichés: they're cliché for a reason. Such is the case with any probing investigation of a 'Friday.' Yawn inducing, methinks. Yet, Fridays are the piñata I'm swinging at all week. Hair's a good one (oh god, someone stop me). Funny man Chris Rock's latest project isn't another well-time stand up tour or DVD, or a not so well-timed sitcom show. Instead, the world renowned comedian has turned his attention to making Good Hair, a documentary on... you guessed it... hair. Apparently, the whole thing started when Rock's daughter asked him "daddy, how come I don't have good hair?" Rock decided to investigate this notion of 'good' hair further, and ended up creating a piece of work which delves into the stereotypes associated with hair, [...]
Apparently this comes from Pryor's short lived ABC sketch show in 1977. I kind of can't believe I've never seen it before. Big ups Skipp Whitman ! His latest mixtape " Skipp vs. Richard Pryor " got shut down by the late comedian's estate (his wife sent him a very threatening email). The funny thing about the mixtape.. it was pretty damn good! So naturally, when something is good and hard to find the demand increases.. and now Skipp is finding himself in the position as the artist behind 2009's "Grey Album". Naturally, a quick Google search will more than likely turn up a place that's hosting the file.. (we're going to hold off on posting it [...]
