"I know a place where it never ends." Rickie Lee Jones ~ Sunshine Superman from Duchess of Coolsville by Rickie Lee Jones
Rikki Lee Jones has just released a new album, The Sermon On Exposition Boulevard, which also marks her first for her new home on New West Records. From the onset of her long career, Jones has been both a musical chameleon and rogue champion of genre exploration. Exposition Boulevard further cements her reputation as an adventurous [...]

so... what's up this week... ------------------- Veteran songstress Rickie Lee Jones has managed this week to release yet another critically acclaimed record, her first in almost half a decade, entitled The Sermon On Exposition Blvd. Out now on New West Records, her first for that label, the record explores lyrical territory inspired by Lee Cantelon 's 1991 book The Words, which attempted to translate Christ's teachings into a more accessible contemporary format. Cantelon's friend , Guitarist Peter [...]
Love equals happiness Last post for happy week before its time to move on, and two more entries to cheer you up. Firstly a little bit of Motown via Marvin Gaye and secondly Rickie Lee Jones. The link is of course love and I cant really ignore the fact that most love songs are by their very nature also happy songs. Gaye released 'How sweet it is' in 1964 despite his early determination to avoid R & B and concentrate on the 'Sinatra' style. I cant say I've ever been a great fan of [...]
I obviously prefer to review entire albums rather than post individual mp3s, but Rickie Lee Jones is up there with Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison. "Elvis Cadillac" is not Rickie's best work, but... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**

Rickie Lee Jones with a free & legal MP3. That's fun. Yeah, I know it's cool to be all indie and stuff... I promise next week to post some band that no one has ever heard of. (Or, maybe I'll post Tom Waits and bring this old couple back together. There are some free tracks of his over at the Anti website.) "Elvis Cadillac," off the forthcoming The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard , offers a taste of an album on which all of the songs are inspired by Jesus. While I'm not exactly [...]

* Rickie Lee Jones-Elvis Cadillac
I first heard Rickie Lee Jones when I was nine. It was a rainy night, and I was lying on my bed listening to the radio in the dark when they played "Chuck E's In Love." I've never really been a fan of hers, but I remember that moment like it was yesterday. It's strange how sometimes a song can become stuck in your memory for no particular reason. The only Jones album that I own [...]
As the catching up continues here's a recap of John Sakamoto 's Anti-Hit List for September 23. Up for is a band from New York called The Isles . Sakamoto points out how hardly anyone has "...been as shameless about its Smiths/Morrissey obsession than this charmingly derivative outfit is." But it's no complaint. Really good song from their new cd, Perfumed Lands. The Isles-"Major Arcana" Next up is The New Lou Reeds . Don't know much about them but I really like this [...]
"...truth in the hands of artists, even when they are telling a fiction, even when they are inventing something, becomes a very powerful thing. Because what artists do is lend passion and emotion -- they lend a kind of spiritual element to reality that enhances the truth, which gives it an intensity that a simple matter of recounting facts will not accomplish." - Howard Zinn "Bush War Blues" - Billy Bragg "Have [...]
