I've been listening to so much music lately, but have been so busy, that getting posts and reviews written has proved to be somewhat difficult. So, instead of writing indepth reviews like I normally do, I'm going to write a bunch of mini-reviews to highlight the new stuff I've been listening to. (mini-reviews after the jump!) ______________________________ ______________________________ _______________________ Jukebox the Ghost Let Live and Let Ghosts Perch Score: 9.134/10 Jukebox the Ghosts remains one of my favorite finds on the Sixty [...]
It's been a cold, rainy and lazy Sunday here in Chicago. The better part of the day I've been sitting here in my room searching for new music in the blogosphere, lurking on last.fm and listening to some pretty mellow and sad bastard tunes. Perfect rainy day listening in my opinion. I thought I would upload my playlist to share with you all. Enjoy! 1. I Can Not Have Seen the Light - Magnolia Electric Co. 2. Won't Be Long - Ferraby Lionheart 3. Wisconsin - Bon Iver 4. My Sympathy [...]

Artist: Manchester Orchestra Album: Mean Everything To Nothing Label: Columbia Website : www.myspace.com/manchesterorch estra Words: Oliver Primus I'm not sure what happened in the life of Andy Hull over the last six months but his band of merry Atlantans are back and have a proverbial bee in their bonnets. Thank god. Whether it's in his day job with Manchester Orchestra or as solo artist, I'm a huge Andy Hull fan, but let's not kid ourselves, the last Right Away Great [...]
I've been out of town all weekend, and wasn't able to post a "Songs of the Week" yesterday...so, I'll post it today instead.Nothing special, just a few songs that I kind of dig. Hope you kind of dig 'em too.***songs of the week #211. Down To Your Soul - Right Away Great Captain (Overlooked output by Andy Hull)2. Opium Pop Ballad - Keith Canisius (Bliss)3. On My Trail - Winston Audio (Throwback to

Right Away, Great Captain! is a side project of Manchester Orchestra 's frontman, Andy Hull. The Evenutally Home , the second album in a planned trilogy was released back in November 2008. The first installment, The Bitter End , was released in 2006. Hull plays the role of narrator in telling the tale of a 17th century sailor who catches his wife in a compromising situation with his brother (ouch!), contemplating revenge with growing madness, while finding his way back home. Keep in mind, this is not MO Part 2. RAGC! has been getting a lot [...]

if I'm honest, I just wanted to out up another cracker from the 'Country - My Way' album; but one thing leads to another & another... Okay, so I lied about posting this on December 22nd. I was tired of moving an album up a spot, moving it back the next day and just stopped. I got it all together and thought "let's get this out there now while I can" so here it is. This is Slowcoutic's favourite albums from 2008 - remember as previously mentioned, I am always right and take criticism terribly. Got it, good. Drumroll please.... ~~ 10. Boduf Songs - How [...]

I was lucky enough to catch up with Chris Freeman , keyboard player and part time vocalist of the Atlanta, Georgia based Manchester Orchestra . Manchester Orchestra is currently touring the US with Kevin Devine , Dead Confederate and All Get Out . Joshua Hammond, Popwreckoning: I'm told that you guys created an album called Nobody Sings Anymore which was never released due to an extreme shift in the band's sound. What differed in that sound that the current [...]

Right Away, Great Captain! release 2nd installment to solo effort "The Eventually Home" Andy Hull knows the fears that accumulate with miles, having spent the last two years on the road as the frontman for Manchester Orchestra . It is with those fears that he has channeled the second installment of Right Away, Great Captain! , his solo side-project in which Hull continues to tell the ongoing saga of a 17th century sailor who catches his wife in an act of betrayal with his very own brother. Titled " [...]

Andy Hull knows the fears that accumulate with miles, having spent the last two years on the road as the front-man for Manchester Orchestra . It is with those fears that he has channeled the second installment of Right Away, Great Captain! , his solo side-project in which Hull continues to tell the ongoing saga of a 17th century sailor who catches his wife in an act of betrayal with his very own brother. Entitled 'The Eventually Home' (Favorite Gentlemen Recordings), which is part two of a three-chapter set, the album sees the [...]

New Wax I'm sure you've noticed my unabashed love for all things Andy Hull here on the blog. While I've been a devoted fan of his work with Manchester Orchestra, I'm actually partial to the stripped-down folksy nature of his solo project Right Away, Great Captain! The second installment of his ambitious trilogy album series is entitled The Eventually Home and it was officially released yesterday. Conceptually, the album continues the story of a 1600's-era sailor who witnesses a personal betrayal before leaving for a 3 [...]

Subtle stars mark week #46 of 2008. Outside of Sweden's Love Is All , the rest of our artists this week have toned things down. Philadelphia's own Denison Witmer comes out with their folk/acoustic sounds with Carry The Weight . They are currently touring the East Coast at the moment. DW, PA loves ya but as your MySpace fans keep saying, Austin and the Midwest need some of that love. Really catching our attention this week are Longwave and The Postmarks . [...]

I've got a ton of work to do today, so let's see if I can rush through this post in a mere 15 minutes. Image stolen with all good intentions from top2bottom.net Paul Simon. Great, isn't he? According to Time , he's one of the "people who shape our world." I wouldn't go that far, but he can write some pretty awesome stuff, as is proved by his 1972 single "Me And Julio Down By The [...]

From the blog dated September 23, 2008: Manchester Orchestra's very own lead singer Andy Hull is proud to announce the release of his second installment in the Right Away, Great Captain! series. For those unaware, Andy took us on an intense and emotionally rattling 15 songs with "The Bitter End" and now his 17th century protagonist has returned. After the crushing blow in losing his captain he has once again lifted his head and this time he is heading home... To Kill His Wife... Stay tuned: November 11th will see [...]

It's taken me about...FOREVER to somewhat like the music of Manchester Orchestra. I'm super glad I stuck it out and started to enjoy them, even slightly, because it is Andy Hull's side project, Right Away, Great Captain! ("The Bitter End" album released in 2007) that I have fallen head over heals for. I know I've been pretty brutal with updating lately, and to be honest, its because I haven't felt any urge at all to write about any music, because nothings stood out!. But, Right Away, Great Captain is screaming "Write about me! god dammit! I'm soooo good! I [...]
