Yesterday Billboard reported that retailers worried that this new eight studio album from Lil Wayne would set a new trend for digital releases and well, "I'm Not a Human Being" currently tops both the Hip Hop/Rap-section and the Over all-chart section at iTunes, but does it have to be a bad thing? I really don't think so, if evolution didn't existed in technology as well we'd be back in the stone age and listening to the sound of someone clapping a pair of rocks together. Anyway it's not a big surprise that "I'm Not a Human Being" [...]

It's not only Crazy Titch who releases music from inside jail these days, no last night DJ Clue premiered Lil Wayne's brand new single produced by Kane Beatz called 'Right Above It' featuring Drake. 'Right Above It' is the first offer from Weezy's upcoming EP "I'm Not A Human Being" that will hit the stores on his 28th birthday, the 27th of September. Also, yesterday Lil Wayne did his first interview since he got locked up, he called Funkmaster Flex from Rikers Island to talk about the life in Rikers, who he wants to work with, when [...]

Lil Wayne was so impressed by Drake and Jay-Z's verses on 'Light Up' that he wanted to record a verse to the track through the phones at Rikers Island. Mack Maine challenged him and Lil Wayne answered. Check out the video of Mack talking to Wayne over the phone and listen to the track below. Drake feat. pics and post by kristen bartley Whether one's feeling toward the Clinton reign during the 90's is love, hate or a general indifference, Governors Island is one thing as New Yorkers we have to thank Slick Willy for. During a helicopter ride over the city in '95, Clinton inquired about the 172-acre urban oasis just south of the tip of Manhattan. When he found out that it had been abandoned by the federal government, he thought it should belong to the people of New [...]

Rikers Learn More We have been reading those damn paperbacks again, lashings of time consuming literature, gloriously preaching substance and knowledge. ` Powder ` by Kevin Sampson is a gripping tale of a fictional Indie band plausibly named The Grams and the ugly elements a hedonistic music business can throw in your general direction. Contains many lines of cocaine, attitude, blowjobs and some good old fashioned Rock N Roll. Also currently thumbing through an early seventies Jimi Hendrix biography by his close friend and musical collaborator Curtis Knight , ingeniously titled ` [...]

Who : Rikers . What : Since we last checked in with this Peterborough group, they were in the midst of recording their 5 song EP, which has now been completed. Adding to the 2 of the tracks mixed by Kevin McMahon (Walkmen, French Kicks), three others had the touch of David Newton (Mighty lemon drops, Little Ones). And if I wasn't on vacation last week, I would have hyped the Toronto show on the 17th. But, there's more shows on the horizon. And did I mention the EP is free? Check their homepage [...]
` Rikers ` long and eagerly awaited five track EP is now waiting for your divine and occasionally critical attention. Easter Eyes continues to highlight the essence of soaring production while excusably escalating vocal emotion. Those of us who remember Alternative Rock grilled slightly on the darker side will be instantly absorbed with Rikers overall musical style. The EP is free to download from their Website along with show dates listed on Rikers MySpace dotted in and around Ontario, Canada. [...]

Shoegazy chamber pop from Toronto, Rikers are a band we featured here a way long time ago , and they're finally releasing the long-awaited EP, Easter Eyes, for free downloading off of their web site. The five-track EP--the title track of which we've already offered up here--easily showcases the producer's hands who helped to carve the sound, namely The Walkmen 's engineer Kevin McMahon. Through soaring guitars and ringing arrangements, the band's everything-front-and-center approach to their songs really shines through with immediacy. Tracklist: 01 Ringleader [...]

The heat has been almost unbearable in Denmark the past few days, and I cannot recall that I've been drinking this much water ever before. Hopefully the happy people attending this year's Roskilde Festival are following my example and drink lots of water and not just beers. Beers are good and pretty fucking close to being the most essential fluid on the planet. Except on warm days like these where it's dethroned by water on the top of that list of essentials. The last time I attended a festival ( this one back in 1995) I had [...]

Canadian duo (which now seems to be a quintet) Rikers has finished the recordings of their first EP and has generously made it available as a free download from their website . The 5 track Easter Eyes EP has (according to the band) taken longer to record than originally planned, but as it turned out the end result was definitely something worth waiting for. Every track is a dynamic piece of indie rock dominated by the great melody, chiming guitars and the haunting lead vocal of Ryan Kennedy , which [...]
Things aren't running smoothly right now. At least not from a blogging point of view, as the updates are few and far between. There's plenty of stuff to post and write about, so that shouldn't be the reason for the inactivity. Perhaps it's a logic reaction following four years of blogging, where I've been giving the blog a lot of (if not my full) attention? Perhaps with the consequence that it has suddenly turned into a burden rather than a pleasure? Perhaps the explanation is something completely different? Will not promise anything, but I'm taking a deep breath and hopefully [...]
3 more videos from last week's concert at Gramophone, London . Shot by Mat Durrance from The Candy Twins and once again thanks to J.A. for the heads up!
Although one could be tempted to think otherwise this blog is still very much alive. As mentioned several times before, one of the most inferior things life has to offer (work) sometimes heavily interferes with the more superior things (family, music and blogging) and forces me to make priorities much against my will. And since work pays the bills and blogging certainly doesn't, I happily confess to be prostituting myself and choosing the inferior over the superior. Not permanently though. Never! But the past few days this has been the case! As always the mails and news keep [...]
Time is still sparse and one hour from now you'll see me running out of the door, as I'll have to be somewhere else...far, far away from any computers. But since this means that I'm going to be eating an excellent lunch, it's just fine by me. This also means that today the music will have to do its own talking, as I'm going to post a bunch of the many fine tunes recently found in the mailbox and various other places. And trust me when I say that it's a fine bunch varying from dance over instrumental via indie [...]

Rikers - Easter Eyes Toronto duo Russ Davidson and Ryan Kennedy take their best stab at Phil Spector's wall of sound here, building their way towards a post-modern pop remodelling of the Everly Brothers, Jesus and the Mary Chain and Sigur Ros. Their forthcoming EP Kings English was mixed by Kevin McMahon (The Walkmen, French Kicks). What can we tell you about Rikers? MP3 Hugger suggests they'd fit comfortably into a venn diagram intersect between the Bunnymen and Glasvegas, but why not judge for yourself by downloading the free mp3 Easter Eyes ?
