Filed under: News , Exclusive , Road Report T ouring alongside and collaborating with acclaimed artists has been the norm for California folksters the Watson Twins in recent years. Some may even say it's the duo's claim to fame. The indie world took notice of Chandra and Leigh Watson after they sang back-up for Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis on her first solo album, 'Rabbit Fur Coat,' in 2006. "Our album with Jenny was kind of where it all started coming together for [...]

This list could go hundreds, thousands deep and it would still only touch the surface, so you know how much a struggle it was for me to cut it down to just 50. Ranking art is always a bit of a silly process, and it's even more here, when every single song is brilliant. So don't take the order too seriously. The real point of this is to give people a chance to hear the things that I simply couldn't live without, the songs that make my whole world go around – and to hopefully [...]
That's right. Tonight's the night. The night we've all been waiting for. Oh man oh man. It's actually ridiculous how excited I am for this. I'd be lying if I said I've been thinking of anything but this for like 2 weeks. Because I haven't. mp3: Coldplay - Lost! mp3: Rilo Kiley - Plane Crash In C mp3: The Whitest Boy Alive - Island mp3: Loney [...]
It should be a given that most drummers should stay behind the kit (we're looking at you, Tommy Lee). But Rilo Kiley's Jason Boesel shows that he can do more than keep the rhythm with his debut, Hustler's Son . With tips from Conor Oberst, Boesel has made an album of dark, sorrowful country rock songs, almost as if he were a modern day version of Kris Kristofferson. Hustler's Son is completely down home, with minimal effects and a totally spontaneous format. We live in a musical landscape where [...]

It's been awhile since we heard anything from the other half of our favorites Georgie James , but finally, Laura Burhenn is back. She's got a new group called The Mynabirds who will be releasing their debut album, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood , on April 27th on S addle Creek Records . We've got a sample track for you to get to know the band. If you [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive When drummers decide to become frontmen, you can end up with Phil Collins , or you can go the way of Jason Boesel , who pounds the skins for Rilo Kiley , Bright Eyes and Conor Oberst 's Mystic Valley Band . Boesel recently took a cue from the company he keeps and decided to try his own hand at songwriting . It went well for him -- so well, [...]
The XX waren im letzten Jahr die Newcomerband überhaupt. Auch bei uns belegten sie sowohl bei den Songs als auch den Alben des Jahres immerhin Platz 2. Nun bekommen die jungen Londoner Konkurrenz aus den USA. Zumindest erinnern Phantogram im ersten Moment an the XX.

[I will let the rest of the Internets fill you in on the new albums by OK Go (recommended) and Vampire Weekend (not). Here are some releases of L.A. interest, some of which I'm late to catch up to:] Jason Boesel , "Hustler's Son" ( Team Love ) — The last of his Rilo Kiley bandmates to bust out with a solo project, drummer-by-day Boesel steers his ship into the safe, genteel waters of Americana, West Coast style. Despite his admirable resume, production [...]

Eddie Argos [pictured last year at Spaceland], who as the frontman of U.K. quintet Art Brut put the rapier wit in rock, is getting ready to unveil the side project he has with his girlfriend Dyan Valdes, keyboardist in the L.A. quartet the Blood Arm . Its unruly name is Everybody Was in the French Resistance ... NOW! , and their album, "Fixin' the Charts, Volume One," comes out in February on Cooking Vinyl. The album's a stitch; it's a song-by-song retort to a bunch of tunes in the pop canon, with Argos' [...]

JASON BOESEL HUSLER'S SON (Team Love) www.myspace.com/jasonboesel After Rilo Kiley found themselves rocketed to success, the two main members went off to try their hand at solo careers. Blake Sennett formed The Elected and got signed to Sub Pop. Jenny Lewis joined with The Watson Twins to release an album under her own name. All of these solo projects had an almost country twang to them and often lacked the sheer indie pop brilliance that made Rilo Kiley [...]
![[DECADEnce] The Top 25 TV Shows of the 00s](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2238353_lg.jpg)
Welcome to DECADEnce! For this week and this week only, I'm going to step slightly away from 100% music coverage to bring you a little taste of the other aspects of pop culture. Okay, so there'll really be about two days of those "other" aspects, and even then I'm going to try and work some mp3s in for ya. But kicking things off, and I have no plans to do this for the rest of my lists this week so enjoy it while it lasts, I'm naming my Top 25 TV Shows of the 00s. You may or may not [...]
MUSIC NEWS - You may know Jason Boesel and not know it. He's sat behind the drum kit for artists like Rilo Kiley and Bright Eyes , but now he steps to the front this year with his solo debut ' Hustler's Son ' (out January 12 via Team Love) . The album features top guests like David Rawlings , Benmont Tench, Orenda Fink, and Boesel's Rilo Kiley bandmate Blake Sennett, among others. [...]
A Better Son/Daughter can be found on the LA-based indie-rock act Rilo Kiley's 2002 sophomore release The Execution of All Things . The album, which follows-up on the band's debut LP Take Offs and Landings , was released via the Oberst brothers' ( Bright Eyes ) founded label Saddle Creek Records ; the album also features contributed instrumentation/vocals from one half of the the Monsters of Folk ensemble via M. Ward and Conor Oberst . Since "The Execution of All Things" Rilo Kiley, which consists of former child-actors Jenny Lewis [...]
After keeping time for bands such as Rilo Kiley and Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band, drummer Jason Boesel proves there's more to meets the eye (or ear) with the release of his solo album debut Hustler's Son January 12 via Team Love. With a deft combination of grit and twang, Boesel presents alt-country, Americana leanings tempered with an unvarnished, occasionally ramshackle nasal croon that adds to the project's unpretentious good vibes. Neil Young's folkier rambles come to mind as do The Band's Big Pink shuffles in an intersection of Jackson Browne-styled L.A. folk/rock, ragged [...]
Historical Context Ban Ki Moon becomes UN Secretary of State (I guess they didn't like my suggestion of Ozzy Osbourne). The iPhone is launched, creating great excitement among the large swathes of the population who still seem to believe that Apple is cool and different. The Doomsday Clock is advanced to 5 minutes before midnight. This is not as awesome as death metal fans would have you believe. The Orange Revolution occurs in the Ukraine, leading us one step closer to running out of colours for names of revolutions. Nicolas Sarkozy becomes [...]
Neben oft billigem [...]

As promised, here is the official soundtrack of the 4th season of Grey's Anatomy. Other than Grey's Anatomy, other hit shows like Gossip Girl, Chuck, Fringe, Glee, Dollhouse, One Tree Hill, Ugly Betty, House and many more. You've got to give a hand to the music supervisors of these shows for their success. The music is not perfect, but it's certainly entertaining. The show goes mostly for indie favorites like The National, Ingrid Michaelson, The Gossip, Tegan and Sara, The Bird and the Bee, Bon Iver, Feist, Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley, Frightened Rabbit, The Republic Tigers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. [...]

When Jason Boesel went down to Mexico in 2008 with Conor Oberst , his objective was simple: play drums. That's one thing he knew he could do. After all, Boesel had been hitting the skins for Oberst both in Bright Eyes and the Mystic Valley Band and others such as Rilo Kiley for 15 years. But as recording sessions for Oberst's self-titled solo disc unfurled, Oberst increasingly looked to his band for collaborative support, loosening up his role as a solo artist and even giving the group their own name -- the Mystic Valley Band. [...]
View our picks for #31-40 here View our picks for #21-30 here. 20) Radiohead- Hail To The Thief (2003) Recommended Track: There, There Why We Like It: Where to rank the albums of the greatest band of this decade... We choose to put this album here because it was the bands' return to a more guitar-based sound. With shorter songs than on Kid A or Amnesiac, it was a more palatable entry into the world of Radiohead for many. Recorded in a mere two weeks, it proves [...]
