I wouldn't be surprised if Portland group Radiation City are going be the next big thing. With their debut album, The Hands That Take You , I have a feeling they're about to impress a lot of people. Don't miss out on this hidden [...]

You know when you get in one of those moods? Well I'm in one. And not for any good reason at all, either, just in a mood. You know one of those situations where absolutely everything irritates you? People have been unduly enthusiastic about fucking crap music on the internet this week, and it infuriates me because they are obviously and clearly wrong. My back hurts again; fuck you, world. There's laundry to do; is there no end to the injustice? There's a new Florence and the fucking Machine album out soon and people are actually acting [...]

Every fall for the last 20+ years, legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young has assembled an all-star roster of musicians for a charity concert to benefit the Bridge School – a school which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. Now in its 25th year, this year's event will feature performances from Young, Arcade Fire, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, Tony Bennett, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Diana Krall, Jenny Lewis and Los Invisibles featuring Carlos Santana. The usually all-acoustic shows will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. [...]

I've always had a thing for redheads. I think it might have started with Raggedy Anne and then maybe moved on to Pippi Longstocking, but the crimson haired gal that has held my attention the longest is the lovely Jenny Lewis. My interest in Jenny started in the late '80s with the classics (well, classics to me) Troop Beverley Hills and The Wizard. In both films, her characters were sassy and cute and had a take-charge kind of attitude. From those first movie roles I saw, she seems very much like the real life Jenny that I love today. She [...]

There's something about a song with whistling that never fails to captivate. From "(Sitting At The) Dock of the Bay" to "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard" to basically any song by Andrew Bird (the indisputable whistle king), it always adds a little something that makes the track burrow deep inside your brain. One recent example is Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks", which turned a catchy melody and even catchier whistle into a massive crossover hit (it even inspired a cover version by Weezer ). This is nothing new of course, if you look at [...]
How many bands could possibly be categorized as Indie-Southern-Swing-Pop ? Not many I recon... not many at all. And that's just one of the many reasons this EP has caught my attention. Tales That I Tell reminds me of something reminiscent of Iron & Wine's The Devil Never Sleeps in it's folksy throwback vibe. How'm [...]
"Rilo Kiley always flirted with endings, and the beauty of "More Adventurous" is the passion of loss."

I'm a little envious of the august arrival. Not only do they live in Canada (and really, who doesn't want to hail from the same country as the Kids in the Hall gang?), but they still have full-time jobs, families, children, and time on the side to be in a band. Seriously, just think of the random conversations you could have with strangers: Stranger : Hey, so, what do you like to do for fun? You : Oh, you know, the usual. Since having my son/daughter, he/she really takes up a lot [...]

The L.A. band releases their debut album in September Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

On September 27, HT faves Wilco will release their eighth studio album The Whole Love via their brand new label dBpm Records . A coworker sent me the song "Closer" by San Francisco duo Camp Out, and I kinda dig it. It's not the most complex or experimental indie pop I've heard, but it's fun, the production is clean, and I love the lead singer's voice. [...]

Όταν ο Homme έδιωξε τον Oliveri από τους Queens of the Stone Age η έκπληξη ήταν μεγάλη αφού ο Josh ανεχόταν παιδιόθεν τον καραφλό και εκδηλωτικό μπασίστα με το μουσάκι. Άργοτερα έγινε γνωστό πως οι λόγοι είχαν να κάνουν με το γεγονός ότι ο Oliveri κακοποιούσε [...]
This break-up of Rilo Kiley's sorta feels like Blake Sennett is having a tough stretch right now and felt like throwing rocks at a passing car (Jenny Lewis), and this whole thing isn't really official-yet. I want to hear from the label or Jenny Lewis. Not the angry young man. If the band is done, then here is our modest little memorial... Rilo Kiley - "The Good That Won't Come Out" Rilo Kiley - "A Man/Me/Then Jim" [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Laura Dukoff There was once a time when Blake Sennett wasn't sure he'd ever make another record. After frontwoman Jenny Lewis called for an end to Rilo Kiley in the wake of 2007's 'Under the Blacklight,' the guitarist took a step back from the music industry, including his other band, the Elected . And if it wasn't for a pal sending Sennett back into [...]

While some of you were getting your chill waves on scorching in Chi-city (expect our complete report in the coming hours), new singles from Blink-182 and Red Hot Chili Peppers were leaking, Rilo Kiley were announcing their demise, and we were writing more stories about Radiohead than there are suitable replacements for the word "blow job." Confused? Well, the post-Pitchfork Music Festival recap is yours to check out below: - The Top 10 mp3s of the week . - Rilo Kiley are still broken up . - [...]
Anyone that's charted the success of Jenny Lewis's solo career in recent years could have seen this coming, but still, these comments by Blake Sennett, the group's guitarist, on the breakup are pretty interesting: "I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don't really want to submit myself to. I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, 'I'm not going to put myself in that position again,' so I said, 'Fuck that, I can't do this anymore.'" The good news is the band might release [...]
"Look, all bands have s-. Ours was no different. That's all I was saying. This interview was supposed to be about the new Elected album I just released, and somehow became the official announcement of Rilo Kiley's end. Perhaps I chose poorly in using the three inflammatory words all these blogs seem to like so much. So for that I'm sorry. As far as the band being over? We are. Rilo Kiley is officially broken up. It's sad but it happens." - Blake Sennett (in another interview with [...]
Blake Sennett Clarifies Rilo Kiley Split Comments The Elected's Blake Sennett took to Facebook last night to set the record straight on statements pulled from an interview with Spinner this week that were "twisted in such a ridiculous way that it's almost funny. Almost," he wrote. "Look, all bands have shit. Ours was no different. That's all I was saying." While he went on to apologize for using "three inflammatory words" ("deception, disloyalty, greed") to describe tensions within the group, Sennett clarified that most of his statements were, [...]
