Beirut - "O Leaozinho" (Caetano Veloso cover) by znaki.fm Beirut, the music project headed by Zach Condon, is going on tour. Good news. He's going on tour with Arcade Fire, the National, and Twin Sister. Better news. He's also contributed a track to the Red Hot Organization's benefit album, Red Hot + Rio 2 : a cover of Caetano Veloso's classic Tropicalia ballad, "O Leãozinho." David Byrne was the one who brought this sweet, haunting love song to the American [...]

When one thinks of AIDS research, very rarely does the topic of Brazilian Tropicália music from the 1960s emerge. But the AIDS charity Red Hot put the two together back in 1996 for an album to benefit AIDS research and prevention and they're doing it again with the sequel, Red Hot + Rio 2 , which hits stores June 28th. The original compilation released back in 1996 featured tracks from Maxwell, PM Dawn, David Byrne, Everything but the Girl, and Stereolab, plus Brazilian artists Gilberto Gil, Astrud [...]

Adventure - Rio I had total mixtape regret yesterday. It happens every time. When I hit publish for the post for No Rush , I knew instantly that I should of used Adventure’s song Rio. I had seen him just a few days prior in Baltimore before curating the mix and he was a ton of fun. First time he’d had a “full band”. Full band meaning another bro keeping the beat alive and another synthin’ out and singing also. But alas today is a new day where I can share this Baltimore goodness.
