Staff Writer Dulani Wallace mourns the loss of Guitar Hero. Lawsuits, big-money licensing, and declining sales: these were what lead to the inevitable end of the Guitar Hero game series. Earlier this month, Activision , the game's publisher, released a statement that it would cease producing Guitar Hero and its spinoff game series DJ Hero due to poor sales. How this extraordinary role playing game rose to a marketing phenomenon is a story of interest. Heck, since November [...]

The exceptionally talented Georgina Cook has a collection of photographs featured on FACT's website that chart the rise and fall of doobstep from 2006-2010, from dingy rooms above pubs to FWD and Fabric. I don't normally write about photography but it's a really interesting series of photographs and definitely worth a look if you were there. Even more so if you weren't. They're here , by the way.

My father taught me to play chess, and as my interest in the game increased I became fascinated with then world champion Bobby Fischer. His chess was brilliant, but as this book shows, his life was filled with turmoil. Endgame is Frank Brady's biography of both the chess player and the man. Exhaustive in his research, Brady recounts Fischer's life without judgment. Everything is laid bare, his rise to chess prominence alongside his anti-Semitism, along with his eccentric behaviors. This book attempts to create a total picture of Bobby Fischer, and succeeds where others [...]

It's been 20 years since they disappeared from the streets, but the nostalgia they evoke is about more than stereo equipment. We've changed the way we listen to music — and to each other. Watch a video about the history of the boombox. Thanks to the homie Michael for sharing this gem. Find out more on: NPD [...]

Casey Chandler aka Galapaghost makes simply put, impacting music. "Rise & Fall" one of the songs from his third EP, is quite the attention getters It is both romantic, and heartbreaking indie folk at it's finest. Chandler just has a pretty special quality in his vocals and in the environment to which all these songs on the record are evoking to a point where you should be saying to yourself it is absolutely ridiculous how he is still unsigned. Hailing from Woodstock, NY, but now calling Austin, TX home, hopefully being in a musical haven which Austin is, will help [...]
What do people think of when they think about Belgium? War graves, paedophiles, and chocolate. No wonder Rise and Fall sound so fucking pissed off. We like Rise and Fall more than all those other things people associate with Belgium. -- Click here to see the rest of our coverage of Offset Festival 2010.

Whilst a couple of tracks from Hot Club de Paris ( MySpace ) have always had their place in a few playlists, I had previously found the albums to be rather contradictory, never quite fitting together as a whole. But after finding a new love for the Liverpudlians with their last EP in February, and having recently been given a fantastic Decca 123 of The Quintet of the Hot Club of France, after which they take their name, I thought now would be a perfect time to have a listen to The Rise And Fall [...]

Cheers to old friends and friendships that stretch continents. This week's show still went on even though I spent a good majority being lazy and eating yummy food with some of my favorite people. This weeks show has been fueled by pizza and soda. I think I have the voiceover quality figured out as well so it should be sounding pretty good and consistent from here on. 17 songs totaling over an hour of music + IP rants and HD TV talk.
Earlier this week, the organizers behind Virginia's annual United Blood festival announced a preliminary list of the bands scheduled to perform at its fourth installment, which runs once again at Alleykatz in Richmond from March 26th through the 27th. For lovers of hardcore young and old, the lineup should seem damn impressive. In no apparent [...]
Now ten years since originally forming, The Hope Conspiracy is still killing it. The band's latest release was this year's True Nihilist, a killer three-song EP showcasing the savage yet smart hardcore that we've come to expect from the band. No official word yet on when we'll see a proper (and overdue) full-length [...]

Europeans usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to hardcore. Though the Continent wins in the realms of philosophy, politics, healthcare, and social welfare, European hardcore has only recently begun besting its American counterpart. While Scandinavian D-beaters tend to garner the Yankee accolades, Belgium's Rise and Fall are sure to share in the love. It's a Long Way Down To the Bottom (excerpt) Following two solid full-lengths, Our Circle Is Vicious ( Deathwish, Inc. , 2009) lives up to its [...]
"Our Circle is Vicious" is the latest (and greatest) from Belgium's Rise and Fall (once more from the always top-notch Deathwish Inc.), offering up 10 tracks of the band's most focused material to date in a little under a half-hour. First and foremost, with the help of the mighty ...
With Converge's critically acclaimed Axe To Fall still commanding the attention of the metallic hardcore faithful, this week's release of a new album from Belgium's Rise And Fall could naturally be overlooked. However, that would be to the detriment of those currently enjoying that higher-profile record. An intelligent, intense burst of recorded vehemence, [...]

by The WZA'd & Van Damned (ATX)Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.-Napoleon BonaparteAustin heshers, you have a couple decisions to make. Tomorrow, October 13th, both über-geeky tech-death weirdos Dysrhythmia (feat. Colin Marston of Gorguts and Krallice) and Deathwish-approved Belgian hardcore heroes Rise and Fall are coming to town. The catch:
So this new Converge record we've been slobbering about since May? The one that comes out October 20? You know, this one?As of right now Axe To Fall is up for pre-order via the Deathwish estore. Both a CD (Epitaph) and vinyl (Deathwish) version are available, so everybody can get their Bannon, Ballou, Newton and Koller on.Bannon, Ballou, Newton and Koller. Pulling Teeth play hardcore infused with metal and bits of thrash. They have a new album-- Paranoid Delusions, Paradise Illusions-- out tomorrow via Deathwish. A song from that album, "Bloodwolves," is
