Catherine Wheel-Chrome It's one of the largest compliments when a record matches the vision described on its cover. Catherine Wheel's second record Chrome is a drowning so palpable you can feel yourself losing your extremities as you breathe through the last remaining air pockets inside your eyes. The ripples becoming larger, and the thrashing ceases to cause any sensation. This is the moment of being overcome. No longer breathing you enter into a void of regretting a life now expired. Chrome is the morose dictation of your failures: the things you [...]

Funkagenda does an incredible remix for BT's 'Always' with Rob Dickinson on the vocals. Absolutely in love with this song at the moment... especially the piano breakdown at 4:40. The track was actually released April 26th through imprint New State Music , not sure why I didn't find it till now. But nonetheless, here you go. Purchase: Beatport
Tyler and I have spent several episodes and DJ sets extolling the virtues of the first two (three if you're me) albums of The Catherine Wheel. Here's a chance download some great takes of early classics from a brilliant band. Click here to download Peel & other radio sessions from Catherine Wheel and Rob Dickinson solo
Everyone loves this song in 2010! Elbow, Fever Ray, and now Spotlight, Floodlight take on Peter Gabriel's So classic.

Is keyboardist Stephen Adams from the sunny Los Angeles, emerge to the surface with his cinematic soundscape where Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos, upright bass, and double drums interplay with Mellotron and wordless vocals. Recently he recorded a collaboration song with Catherine Wheel's Rob Dickinson, and they do a Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street cover, which then available as free download. enjoy [...]
If you've been reading for a while you know I'm not shy when I love an artist. You'll also know that I love covers. So what happens when an artist I love does a cover of another artist I love? Well, the world stands still for a while. That's what we've got with this snippet of video (kudos to So Much Silence for pointing the way). We've got former Catherine Wheel singer Rob Dickinson

It's been a little more than four years since former Catherine Wheel frontman Rob Dickinson released his solo debut, Fresh Wine for the Horses , but he's starting to stir – perhaps a sign that some new material could be on the way. This year, he released a cover of the Smiths' Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want on his own Carrera Records label. And now he's booked for a return visit to the Valley on Dec. 18 at the Rogue after he played here in [...]

What becomes a legend most...? How many great artist have we talked to about the bands they played in during the 80's and 90's? How often have they tried to distance themselves from their earlier bands, denying a new generation an opportunity to hear their fine work? Rob Dickinson fronted one of the greatest of these bands when Catherine Wheel provided some of the best music to come out of England in the 90's. From 1990 to 2000, Catherine Wheel shed their early shoegaze tag and became one of the great rock bands of the decade. Black Metallic [...]

Do512 , Two Groove and Yetti Rock are proud to present Rob Dickinson , frontman of the influential ’90s rock band the Catherine Wheel , at Mixx on September 25th. As singer/guitarist for the British rock band the Catherine Wheel, Rob Dickinson led the four piece to critical success fueled by their classic hit song Black Metallic. During their decade-long run, Catherine Wheel quietly unleashed six brilliant albums, recorded a session for the great John Peel, headlined for a new band called Radiohead, and did their last show opening up for Smashing Pumpkins in 2000. [Freelance entertainment writer Pamela Chelin reports on Tuesday night's proceedings at Largo at the Coronet:] By Pamela Chelin It was an eclectic blend of laughs and earnestness on Tuesday night at Largo with Los Angeles' hardest-rocking string players, the Section Quartet . The group (violinists Eric Gorfain and Marina Kuney, violist Daphne Chen and cellist Richard Dodd) has collaborated with some of the giants of pop and live by the mantra " We’re interpreting rock, not Rachmaninoff.” And so it was as [...]

[Apologies — this installment of Tonight in L.A. was delayed by the, ahem, aftereffects of Last Night in L.A. ...] It's no secret how much Art Brut is admired around Buzz Bands HQ; we've even been known to affect corny English accents and say "brilliant" as we witness Eddie Argos' shout-sung self-flagellations. The British quintet tonight begins a four-night stand in L.A. — three at Spaceland, then Friday at the Echo. Tonight's opener is value-added with the appearance of Miike Snow [pictured], [...]

[So flipping radio stations on the way home last night I heard Van Halen's "Jump" for the trillionth time and thought, 'How old is that song, anyway?' Turns out that 25 years ago this week, it was No. 1.] I wanted to find out which of the estimable performers at tonight's "A Tribute to Scott Walker" would perform the Walker Brothers' most memorable hit, "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore." But my highly placed source declined to tell me, saying, "Half the fun is not knowing [...]

Unless you're British, or an American of a certain age, chances are you don't know Scott Walker . Oh, you may have heard the voice — the soaring, tremulous baritone behind the '60s hit "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and some other gems from that era. To most, Walker's name, if it was recalled at all, has receded into the chords of history. This week affords two opportunities to get to know Walker, an Ohio native who shot to stardom with the Walker Brothers in the mid-1960s, gradually retired from the spotlight over the [...]
Rob Dickinson, former lead singer of one of my all-time favorite bands, The Catherine Wheel, has released a series of three live albums. Each of the three was recorded at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles in September and October of last year. The sets are comprised of both Dickinson's solo material as well as Catherine Wheel classics. A new song, "The Diplomat", is also busted out. In his blog

Rob Dickinson , former front man of British group The Catherine Wheel, recently re-released his 2005 debut solo album, Fresh Wine for the Horses . At first listen, Dickinson never holds back throughout the entire album, displaying his magnificent crooning voice and excellent guitar work. The re-release also includes a bonus disc, Nude , which includes re-worked Catherine Wheel tracks. This entire body of music is well orchestrated and vocally superb. For those of you out there who are sick of listening to other acoustic musicians: Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, etc., [...]

Evil Urges! You've got some tough choices to make from in this week's list of releases, containing a ton of new albums both new and old. Amid the lengthy list from Largehearted Boy, you'll find a bevy of reissues and repackaged collections from the likes of The Beach Boys, Husker Du, Wooden Shjips, Johnny Cash, Dinosaur Jr., Rob Dickinson (of Catherine Wheel) and a whole lot more. Among the new releases are the latest from Styrofoam, Twilight Sad, Solomon Burke, Flying Lotus, plus all of the great selections [...]

Photo by Frank Yang It's been interesting watching the revisionist history that surrounds R.E.M.'s latest album Accelerate develop, in particular the notion that it's a return to their "rock band" roots. Maybe it's just me, but I don't hear anything overly rocking in any of their records up until their fourth full length, 1986's Life's Rich Pageant . After all, they spent their formative days in the back room of a church, not a garage. But for the sake of argument, we'll go [...]
