I told you last week that Here Come The Selmanaires would be the featured album of the week tonight - I want to share it because The Selmanaires are in town this Saturday night to play Mercy Lounge, and I will definitely be front and center. I played one track off the record last week, tonight we'll hear three more to give you a taste of what this excellent band has to offer. The free mp3 of the week is from Robbers on High [...]

Sitting somewhere between later era Spoon, and early era Strokes, is "The Fatalist" by Robbers on High Street. It's smart, bouncy, and jangly. The bassline makes this tune, moving the song along at a clip perfect for toe tapping and head bopping, while the keys guitars chime in at all the right moments. This song practically stinks of cool -- ideal for hipsters, wanna be hipsters, or people simply looking to increase their cool quotient a bit. I don't know if I'm just setting myself up for failure or if this will really work, but we're going to try something new here on the bloggy. In a lame-ass version of recapping my weekend listening and giving you a preview of what's coming up (out) soon, Mondays are hereby christened (insert some clever name that I am too lazy to think of right now). So here's the first: I have joined the ranks of newby gamer. This weekend I discovered Guitar Hero. Basically, you rock out on a miniature [...]

Thanks to Bruce for reminding me of these guys being due for a new album soon. Philabuster has joined SkinnySlim in the land of the very busy these past few days. So, in lieu of my usual quips, here's a fascinating excerpt ripped from the pages of today's news: "A Croatian woman was left with a severely burned anus after a lightning strike which entered through her mouth left her body through her bottom. The lightning reportedly struck Natasha Timarovic's building as she was cleaning her teeth – with her mouth to the tap, sending the current through her body...

Nowadays, we are blasted with TV commercials (that's if you watch TV) and it seems that sometimes there are more commercials than acutal shows. However, it is intriguing to me to see the creativity on some of these commercials and also the music that is played. Well known songs are the main picks but there is an increasing number of commercials that take songs from "indie" artists. For instance, the below track "Japanese Girls" by Robbers On High Street is one I guarantee not many people are aware of who the band is and have no idea who they are [...]

Well, I left you kiddos hangin' for a few days now - sorry about that - but on to the post. So the first time I heard about this quartet was at a forum for Spoon in a post put up by a, in internet spraken, "noob" probably entitled something like, "If you like Spoon..." It was met with hostility while the member that posted it "mysteriously" disappeared. I clicked it anyway and ended up loving what I heard. Now I'll admit [...]
Found these guys this morning scrolling through music to find something I havn't heard in awhile. Robbers On High Street are four dudes from New York with funny press shots and good rock music. They have been praised by Rolling Stone, Filter, Alternative Press and Paper Mag. This was all over a year ago as their debut album came out February of 2005, but that doesn't mean you can't talk about them right? If you live in New York they may be playing some shows around town some time soon. Here's a video of them jamming a [...]
