Good evening, travelers. You're entering an area adjacent to the general vicinity of a particular place. Maybe it's a website that posts some weird kind of music. This is just a for instance. It could also be something totally different. Something cooler. Prepare to enter the Sunday Mix Tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give [...]
Back in the fall, Not Not Fun's dance offshoot label, 100% Silk , hit the road with acts Ital, Magic Touch, Octo Octa, Innergaze and LA Vampires. The tour touched down in DC at The Dunes, one of the more recent alternative spaces to pop up in the District in the last year. Check out the above clip from LA Vampires' set.

Robedoor — Dungeon Crossroads L.A.'s Robedoor (Britt Brown and Alex Brown) have made a thunderous return to their Not Not Fun headquarters with Too Down to Die , a dense 4-track transmission that's half dystopian epic, half basement séance. One of the more bite-size cuts on the release, "Dungeon Crossroads" (telling name) is a cavernous slab of drone-rock paved with pounding percussion and howled incantations. Chilly. Too Down has yet [...]

Today I found out that apparently Pocahaunted is no more. This is what was written by the latest Pocahaunted 73 Threshold that just came out. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, bands to solo projects – it's all the same arc. And here it is, the final RIP action by star-crossed NNF institution Pocahaunted and the only recorded document of the final triforce-vocal line-up featuring Leyna Noel on keys/crooning/dance magic...... Roll the credits, this is the end. [...]

After a lengthy sabbatical, the Bored Fortress singles club returns and with a lineup that feels as solid as ever within Not Not Fun's corner of the noise/psych/experimental universe. The full lineup featured entries from Wet Hair, Sex Worker, Gnod, Ducktails, Infinite Body, Taterbug, Psychic Reality, No Age, High Wolf, Robedoor, Peaking Lights and Rangers. Wet Hair / Peaking Lights – Bored Fortress 7" An inspired pairing if we do say so ourselves; Peaking Lights and Shawn Reed's Wet Hair perfectly balance their [...]

Maybe half a year ago, I was stunned and outraged to hear that one of my new favorite bands, Pocahaunted , was breaking up. The "Olsen Twins of drone," Bethany Cosentino and Amanda Brown, fused psychedelic drone with spooky chanting to the tune of about a release a month. Not all of those CDs/cassettes/vinyl were groundbreaking, but they were rarely uninteresting. Then the well seemed to dry up. From those ashes, though, have sprung two sublime bands. First, would be the resurrected phoenix that is Pocahaunted. Though they go by the same name, the group is hardly [...]

i went home last night, fell down on my bed, i got to dreaming so, i was talking all out of my head… robedoor have only gone and bloody done it. fully embracing the lysergic blues hinted at on the transitionary exorcism blues joint. not that they're playing some twelve-bar boogie, more an annexing of the existential howl and the eerie wail of blind lemon, that hissing otherworldliness of pre-war ghost recordings re-recaptured by alan lomax. when you've made as definitive a statement as rancor keeper, the only aesthetic option is to keep moving, keep changing. Having spent a few years wading through chest-level distortion, the L.A. based noise outfit Robedoor have built a cult following for their sinister tape explorations. Coming home to roost from an east coast tour with the recently departed(and dearly missed) Pocahaunted, the group sent six months preparing the follow-up to 2008's Endlessly Blazing . Their new full length, Raiders , signals an effort to evolve beyond a strictly drone project into an iowaska-drinking mutant of heavy, creeping rock and psychic textures. Raiders is a colosseum of reverb [...]
now listen to this i'll tell you about texas, i'll tell you about the texas radio... some kindof transitionary shit here from robedoor. some kind of jams betwixt rancor keeper and the newbie raiders records out on not not fun at some point. whereas rancor was thick like tar and murky like crowley (or fritzl) this is [...]

Judy McGuire at Frisky.com, you've done it again. Two weeks ago you wrote about what makes a dating habit "cute" and what makes one "crazy" . The article was a monumental failure that smacked of journalistic ineptitude. You unsuccessfully tackled two subjects, dating and psychology, proving that you have little grasp on either science. It took a shitty blogger to point out your flawed logic and impart accurate information - using sound logic - to infer that the nuances that separate cute from crazy are vastly different than those you put forth in your original article. Now [...]
It's a busy weekend so let's just do this junk:Tonight, we'll be a pehrspace for a little show with some friends. If you've got other plans (lots of great shows tonight) you might want to still stop by after. We'll have complimentary food and beverage for the show, as we do all our pehrspace shows. Should be fun.So, ok, tonight... Listen up for Okie Dokie on "Demolisten." Nosaj Thing opens for

Amanda from Pocahaunted, Cameron from Sun Araw, Britt from Robedoor, and various other Not Not Fun weirdo all-stars make up lo-fi garage-soul "supergroup" Vibes . I mentioned the group's debut cassette You God It a couple months back , and that's long gone now, but we're currently wearing out a test-pressing of their funky-as-hell upcoming Psychic EP, which is due out soon on NNF . The 4-song 7" features more filthy [...]
Illustration by Gemma Correll Words by Phil Inzurriaga THE TIME IS NIGH. The culmination of my entire year. One week full of my absolute favorite things in the world that start with the letter b : Beer, Babes, Bands. Who knows where those three would rank on a normal day, but for one great week in March, it's all about BANDS. SXSW is one of the major jumpoffs for new bands. With the entire internet and virtually every magazine known to man in Austin, Texas, bands are made during this week. At [...]
Robedoor - False Dawn Robedoor usually comes off like one motherfucker of a dark realm but this new LP is lifted up into space via some super strange ectoplasmic channels, abducted by one longer slither of a beam of light, negating time, eschewing minimalism in favour of scorched intensities and a burnt travelogue of history, cosmic silt drifting through this doom with a Dungeons and Dragonsist humanism. I thought Robedoor's castle was made out of plastic cos it was melting a little bit but it's actually just the cave walls (on fire) making those blurry waves [...]

Sunday, cruddy Sunday. Many of you have to return to work tomorrow. I'm sorry. Some of you worked all weekend like I did. I'm sorry. Some of you are out of work and don't even know what day of the week or month it is. Uh...I'd say I'm sorry, but I'm actually kind of jealous. Killdozer is playing here tonight. I've been counting down the days since I read about their mini US tour on the Electrical Audio forum. Hopefully they'll play a good set and fill me with great joy. Slower. Louder. Louder! Slower!
