The Robert Palmer original is one of my absolute favourite 80s tracks and I got really excited when I read the mail from Maman Records . Hearing "Addicted To Love" or "Simply Irresistible" every blue moon is something that will always be appreciated, the two records (and their respective videos) being symbolic of the best in '802s pop and all, but an even bigger treat is the rare occurrence when something from Robert Palmer (in our opinion, one of the baddest white soul singers ever) that has nothing to do with those two MTV pop star-establishing records (nor his equally beloved by '802s-centered "oldies" radio/ Power Station-fronting "Some Like It Hot") gets some sort of nod. The duo slows down the original, making it seem less like "Johnny AND Mary" and more like "Johnny Misses Mary". Kisses - Johnny & Mary (Robert Palmer cover) A long loved IGIF favorite, Kisses , have been hard at work on their second LP the past year. If you were with us in March for our Killer Tofu party, you've already got a little taste and if not.. you suck. Not entirely though, Kisses released a new cover of Robert Palmer's "Johnny & Mary". It's a terrific rendition that makes the most of Jesse Kivel's smooth, deep vocals and Zinzi Edmundson's sultry synth manipulation.
