A Robert Plant e [...]
While the demo tape-carrying waiters and baristas of Nashville fantasize about hitting it big as a session player, songwriter or performer, Darrell Scott has been a key figure in each of those re... Continue reading "Q&A: Darrell Scott Talks Robert Plant, What Americana Means and More" >

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant : Kashmir [ purchase ] For our Reproductions theme, the idea was to post remakes of songs that rendered the original in a bigger arrangement. How can you do that with Kashmir? It's a fair question, because the Led Zeppelin original already has a huge sound. Not only that, but the original Kashmir was an epic, clocking at 8:28, and going through some remarkable changes. Led Zeppelin used to talk about how their sound was influenced by the music of the Arab world, [...]
Cover Me looks back at the monumental Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, complete with recaps, commentary and videos of all the covers performed at the event.

Image via Wikipedia Led Zeppelin has gone down in history as one of the biggest bands of all time. I'm here to convince you that they are, in fact, the greatest of them all. Remembered as the biggest band of the 19702s, Led Zeppelin gained iconic status through their electrifying live shows. Over time, their popularity hasn't waned, and they are still one of the most popular bands today. Only reuniting a handful of times, they have remained true to their legacy and will be forever remembered [...]

As we closed in on Thanksgiving in 1982, I imagine that it seemed as though summer had never happened and never come 'round again. We were housebound more as raw days of wind and cold, stinging rain were a November staple in our part of the Midwest. For one of the first Novembers of my life, I had the radio to help battle the restlessness of being a kid confined to quarters. Casey Kasem and American Top 40 was a drowsy weekend morning staple. But there were sixty songs beyond the ones Casey counted [...]
Filed under: News Erika Goldring, Getty Image Although there's been absolutely no confirmation from either party involved -- or their respective representatives -- recent speculation is leading some to believe that Robert Plant and his Band of Joy backing vocalist Patty Griffin might be more than just bandmates. According to The Pulse of Radio (via Blabbermouth ), the suspected lovebirds were spotted around the Austin area sporting wedding rings. The report [...]

Yesterday was a fantastic day down in Golden Gate Park for the first official day at the 2011 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, and I got to take in a ton of music that I hadn't ever seen before while enjoying a sunny day in the park. All for FREE. Side note: I love living in San Francisco. My musical day started off with a run by the Banjo Stage for a quick gander at the David Bromberg Quartet before meeting with friends at the Rooster Stage to see Woods . [...]
Today marked the unofficial beginning to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the annual (and free) festival that brings thousands of people to Golden Gate Park each and every fall with tarps in tow and whiskey drinking on the brain. I saw unofficial because really only MC Hammer played today as part of an educational outreach program, so tomorrow is really when the action begins. The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival has become a cultural institution in the city and something that we music fans hardly take for granted (LULZ SEE WHAT I DID THERE) . [...]

Excellent BBC Documentary in which Robert Plant talks about growing up in the black country, life in Led Zeppelin and his solo career. As one of the greatest vocalists of rock, he explains how it was for him to break out of the rock-god cliché and find his own sound with his new band in the 80's and early 90's, and the reunion with Jimmy Page in the mid-90's. He then talks about The Strange Sensation and his latest collaborations with Krauss and the new Band of Joy. Includes music snippets and rare footage and photographs. [...]
After answering the previous week's call from Kendal Calling, it is on to Big Chill for team Cougar Microbes' next stop off in a marathon of summer festivals. Right from the off this is the friendliest I have encountered yet. Stewards wish you a jolly good knees-up. Caterers willingly smile without gritting their teeth. Furthermore [...]

Photo by G. Robert Plant Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin is a god to me. The fact that I was able to stand in the front row and watch him perform for 2 hours is something that I will never get over. There are of course so many great songs to listen to today, but topping my list will be "The Crunge," "Dazed and Confused," "Achilles Last Stand," "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You." What are your favorite Led Zeppelin songs? [...]
The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival has announced its 2011 lineup, featuring HSB mainstays like Bela Fleck, Emmylou Harris , Kris Kristofferson , and Robert Plant , alongside less bluegrass-ey artists like Bright Eyes , Broken Social Scene , Buckethead , Fitz & the Tantrums, Kurt Vile & the Violators, and MC Hammer (no, seriously; he's running the annual children's program). The three-day music festival is FREE and will take place September 30th through October 2nd in Golden Gate Park (at the Speedway Meadow). Hardly [...]

The lineup for the 2011 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival has been unveiled, and as always, it's a doozy. Like previous years, the classic bluegrass/folk is well-represented in the form of Gillian Welch , Steve Earle (as well as son Justin Townes Earle ), Emmylou Harris , Earl Scruggs , Bela Fleck and many more. And as expected, plenty of non-bluegrass acts are peppered throughout the lineup, including Robert Plant , Thurston Moore , Broken Social Scene , Bright Eyes , Mekons , [...]
San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival will once again provide broke festival fanatics with one last chance for a weekend full of music before the harsh reality of winter sets in. Set for September 30 - October 2 at Golden Gate Park, this year's edition offers Robert Plant & the Band of Joy, Bright Eyes, Bob Mould, Broken Social Scene, and Buckethead for the price of your attendance - aka, it's free. Other notable acts include John Prine, Bill Kirchen, Gomez, DeVotchKa, Gillian Welch, Dr. John & the [...]

Rival Sons is a band that isn't playing around when it plays. Pressure And Time (Earache), their second studio album is some serious 702s-style hard rock that brings to mind Led Zeppelin, Foghat and even a bit of Ram Jam a la their "Black Betty" cover fame. They've opened for AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Kid Rock and other older, hard rock acts. Without question, Rival Sons is one opening band that can close the deal and become its own headliner. There is a palpable commitment with them to pull out some rock from its proper roots - the manlier [...]
Blues history, three-chord pop and some damn good hard rock fun make up this week's collection.
