Last night Allman Brothers Band guitarists Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes bridged our favorite two annual New York City residencies , when they performed both with the Allmans at the Beacon on Manhattan's Upper West Side and with Soulive at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg on the same night. The guitarists started off by playing two sets with the Brothers before they headed south for a surprise third set of Soulive's second Bowlive IV performance. [All Photos by Dino [...]
[ purchase Live at the Wetlands ] No, that isn’t a typo—The title of the song is the theme for the week. One of the most noticeable things about a Robert Randolph and the Family Band concert is the joy in the music and in the attitude of the musicians. That has to be something that is ingrained in their personalities, and must also be fed by the fact that Randolph’s band includes two of his cousins and his sister on background vocals. Now, I know that many families are dysfunctional and don’t get along, [...]

[Photo from the Mountain Jam Facebook Page] With its all-star lineup of sacred steel /modern jazz/blues musicians, you can't help but call The Word a supergroup. Featuring Robert Randolph ( pedal steel guitar ), John Medeski ( keyboards ), and all three members of North Mississippi Allstars - Luther Dickinson ( electric guitar ), Cody Dickinson ( drums , washboard ), and Chris Chew ( bass guitar ), The Word don't generally get to tour together often (although they've done some festival dates this summer), but when these players share a stage, it's an [...]

Mumbai sang the blues this weekend as the Mahindra Blues Festival, in its second year, played host to some of the greatest blues musicians.
