As so many folk complained a couple of weeks back when I had to miss a week of Freebies, I am typing this up on a Wednesday which is a bit unorthodox for me as it means I'll probably miss a tonne of good stuff out. Fear not though as that wee annoying bunny eared fecker will duly point them out. I do have good reason to have an excuse as we put on the latest Peenko session last night, which we will hopefully be bringing to you shortly. Anyway, lets get this show on the road and get on [...]
Robin Pecknold has recently released a three-song EP. Its fantastic. I met his sister once at a restaurant, she used to be a writer. Does she still do it? Stream and download all three songs below. EP via the @FleetFoxes twitter account. Robin said: "these aren’t Fleet Foxes songs, but I didn’t know where else to disseminate it.” Robin Pecknold : I’m Losing Myself (feat. Ed Droste) Robin [...]

While the Seattle-based band's Helplessness Blues is slated for a May 3 release, Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold was recently busy in a studio recording a few acoustic tracks. The first track, "I'm Losing Myself", features Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste. This dual-vocal output really ties to what FF have come to perfect as the acoustic guitar helps stretch the vocals. We have an mp3s below, but you can also check out the tracks on Soundcloud . MP3: Robin Pecknold - Derwentwater Stones [...]

So who else is anxiously waiting the release of the Fleet Foxes’ sophomore LP on May 3rd? I know I am. Ever since listening to Helplessness Blues, the band’s latest single (released at the end of January), I’ve been craving may. Just this past Monday, lead singer Robin Pecknold surprised his fans with the release a three-song EP via the Fleet Foxes twitter account. These aren’t Fleet Foxes songs, but I didn’t know where else to disseminate it. The featured track, I’m Losing Myself [...]

While we've been busy keeping you abreast of all the East Coast music fests, we haven't forgot about our Left Coast readers as news came down earlier this week that Outside Lands would be returning once again to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Now in its fourth year, the festie is eschewing the two-day format it adopted last year to return to a full three days of music, food, wine and art, running from August 12-14. A limited number of 3-Day [...]

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. Every good folkie knows that Fleet Foxes have an album due. Even bigger and better folkies know it's titled Helplessness Blues and [...]

Sometimes I just think the universe doesn't want me to go to sleep at a decent hour. Like right now for example, teeth brushed, nasal rinse completed (it makes you get sick less, believe me) and decided to go on the computer one more time to check the weather tomorrow, and BAM right in front of me on twitter is a link to a new solo EP, Three Songs from Robin Pecknold, best known for his work as the frontman (and possible twitter account handler) of Fleet Foxes. And it's all free and all [...]

Free association time—folk rock. If you're already gagging on the pine-scented memory of awkward campfire sing-alongs, whiskey-sipping Brooklyn twenty-somethings in flannel, and your parents dancing to Cat Stevens, consider the following before you say anything you can't take back. bright_eyes3 http://www.deathandtaxesmag.co m/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/b right_eyes3.jpg Cave-Singers3 http://www.deathandtaxesmag.co m/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/C ave-Singers3.jpg kurt_vile3 http://www.deathandtaxesmag.co m/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/k urt_vile3.jpg [...]

As many of you probably know by now, Fleet Foxes will release H elplessness Blues ( Subpop/Bella Union ) on May 3. Fans of the band have waited patiently since 2008, when the band released their brilliant self-titled album. A couple of weeks ago, Subpop freely distributed a mp3 of the title track. On Monday, the Foxes frontman, Robin Pecknold, released three tracks to tease us a little more. He's joined by Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste on I'm Losing Myself , sings longingly on Where Is My Wild Rose , and lets it all hang [...]

The most noteworthy of three new acoustic solo offerings Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold gifted out via Twitter , "I'm Losing Myself" pairs Pecknold with Grizzly Bear 's Ed Droste for a beautifully harmonized folk ballad that traverses the dark, paranoid corners of a boyfriend/ husband's psyche. Gently opening with Pecknold checking off a list of several personality attributes ("I'm a slow mover/ I'm the best laid plans..."), "Losing Myself" takes a sharp turn for the haunting mid-way through, when it becomes apparent that he's only trying to figure out if these elements [...]
In case you missed my tweet or don’t follow Fleet Foxes on Twitter, Robin Pecknold (frontman of Fleet Foxes) posted a link to download three brand new solo songs yesterday!!! (OMG!) As if that’s not awesome enough, the first track, "I'm Losing Myself" features Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear (OMFG!)

Oh, there are lovely solo tracks by a member of a pretty big band again. This time it's Fleet Foxes ' Robin Pecknold, who presents us three "pretty mellow jams", including a cover and a beautiful duet with Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear . The whole thing is called "Three Songs EP" and can be downloaded here . mp3 | I'm Losing Myself (Feat. Ed Droste)

If you are somewhere that you can wrap something warm around you and drink something hot from a mug, you should probably do that for this gorgeous, translucent song. Robin Pecknold of the Fleet Foxes recorded three acoustic demo songs a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, one with Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear , and he released them into the world last night via twitter. Their voices blend together more perfectly than almost any two I can think of. Haunting and beautiful. [...]

Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes doesn't stray too far from the original in his cover of Chris Thompson's 'Where is My Wild Rose,' but that proves not to be a problem, as his cover is absolutely beautiful.
