You've already heard the news: The Replacements are playing Riot Fest Chicago , Toronto , and Denver . But perhaps lost in the shuffle of tonight's breaking news was the announcement of the other bands playing the Denver and Toronto offshoots (the lineup for Riot Fest Chicago was revealed last month). Riot Fest Toronto, set for August 24th-25th at Fort York, will feature The Replacements, Iggy and the Stooges, Rocket From the Crypt, Dinosaur Jr., and Best Coast, among others. Meanwhile, Riot Fest Denver, set for September 21st-22nd at May [...]

Last weekend's 10th annual Ink-N-Iron Festival had more than its share of vintage culture — classic cars and hot rods, tricked-out bikes, an art show and a fashion bazaar, drawing with thousands of tatted enthusiasts to the Queen Mary Events Center in Long Beach. It had some vintage rock ’n’ roll too, with Iggy & the Stooges, the Offspring, NOFX and Rocket From the Crypt among the bands. Here's a gallery from the proceedings. Ever look at a festival lineup and think, I could do a better job at picking bands than these people. How do I get that job? Well for the Orion Music + More Festival , the answer is: be a successful metal band for 30 years and then do it yourself. For its second year in a row, Metallica brought the fire, the heat, and the sounds to a festival setting - shifting the action away from Atlantic City, NY to the rustic confines of Detroit, MI, specifically Belle Isle. Once again, they presided over [...]

Sohrab Habibion, guitarist of Obits, described the Black Box room at Underground Arts as being like a lectern during their show Thursday. That was due in part to the arena-style seating, low ceiling and how close the crowd was able to get to the band because of the stage being around four inches tall. In ... Continue reading

John Reis recently spoke with San Diego City Beat about the upcoming Rocket From The Crypt reunion

Last year, garage-punk outfit Rocket From The Crypt reunited to perform an original song called "He's a Chef" for the children's television show Yo Gabba Gabba! . The band will remain active throughout 2013, as they've just announced a batch of European tour dates in April, where they'll perform together for the first time in eights years. What's more, they've revealed plans for a new studio album, their first since 20012s Group Sounds , and apparently Dave Grohl is at the helm. The band opened for Foo Fighters in 1998. [...]

Rocket from the Crypt have announced five European shows in April of 2013. Along with the dates, the band posted a brief Q&A covering some frequently asked questions. Notably: Q: Will there be other shows? A: Maybe. We will see how it goes. Q: Why are you playing again? Are you broke or something? A: I just want to make people happy, if only for an hour or two Q: Are there plans for a new record? A: Yes, Dave Grohl from Nirvana is producing.
After teasing the reunion earlier this year, Rocket From The Crypt have announced a string of European dates but so far none in the US. The band has also taken time out to answer a few pertinent questions regarding the reunion. That FAQ list, the 2013 lineup, and more is below alongside a list of all dates. Rocket From the Crypt continue teasing fans, this time offering some perhaps more concrete plans. The band posted an image to their Facebook page showing a rocket launching from California, with trajectories leading to a few European cities. No further details are offered, with the caption simply reading "10..9..8..7.."

Swami Records , the label run by Rocket From the Crypt frontman John Reis, is fanning the flame of speculation by posting a mysterious teaser image to their Facebook page. The image in question features simply the year "2013" with the Rocket From the Crypt logo in the zero. No further information has been let out, leading many to wonder if this is a hint at a proper reunion for the band, or merely gearing up for some deluxe reissues of the band's work. Rocket From the Crypt was active from 1989 [...]
I think we were all more or less OK with the fact that the world is going to end on 12/21/2012, but now I'm officially ambivalent about it. Because if Rocket From The Crypt is going to reunite in 2013, I want to be there. The news is far from official, but the above image was just posted on RFTC's Facebook , leading naturally to speculation that they'll be back in 2K13 barring the apocalypse and/or rapture. This would be the second such recent reunion presided over by John Reis; he also got the great Hot Snakes back together [...]

What a way to introduce Rocket from the Crypt to my kids. I have to admit this is one of the better reunion ploys. No cash grab tour with dutiful live album following suit. Just a limited edition 73 available via Volcom retailers after September 21st. The b-side is a collaboration between Biz Markie and The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne. [via Pitchfork ]
