Instead of just posting Band Aid or something, I got sent a cover of 'Winter Wonderland' by James Yuille with Rod Thomas on the backing vocals! Sorry it's posted so close to Christmas but I simply havn't had the time to be blogging away! Anyway, have a brilliant Christmas everyone! Winter Wonderland - James Yuill Feat Rod Thomas
"I Put All My Heads on High, Waitin' for a Conversation, Are You Gonna Tow That Line?" Publicando mais alguns lugares da tabela TOP TRACKS-31 2008, a posição #23 cabe a Rod Thomas com o seu giríssimo single (e respectivo clip) "Same Old Lines" já falado neste blog. O tema da posição nº 22, "Hang Them All", deve-se aos norte americanos Tapes 'N Tapes que infelizmente não marcaram muita presença

This post wouldn't be here without Jeff doing the post on Rod a while back so this one's for him! It just so turns out Rod Thomas is a very lovely man who emailed me saying he had read the blog and asked if I'd be interested in posting a song, I said why not go the whole hog and do a Q+A! What a gentleman. So Rod, how did it all start? Well, I used to write and record in my room when I was a teenager (I [...]

James Yuill is becoming a staple here on Discobelle, we especially like how he manages to combine a softer, almost folky acoustic driven sound with electronic beats. James recently remixed Rod Thomas's single "Same Old Lines" and here Rod returns the favour. James' debut album "Turning Down Water For Air" is out now on Moshi Moshi . For me, it started back in September. Just after returning to blogging post-holiday, I noticed that something wasn't quite right. I was sure I had done a post about Richard Hawley side project The Feral Cats, but it wasn't there any more. Strange, especially given that the song still appeared on my Hype Machine listing . My first thought was that I had been hacked. But by who? An outraged Richard Hawley fan, furious that I had posted a track only available on a very limited edition 10 inch single? Surely not. Slightly worried though I was, I changed [...]

Apparently I'm of "Generation Y". This means I'm a geeky yuppie born after 1979. Yeah - can't complain with that. It also means I lived through the 80s, but being brought up in Hong Kong I missed out on all the psychedelic British kids TV. Rod Thomas clearly got a fair dose as his video for Same Old Lines shows: This folkster from Wales played at a few summer festivals, including Glastonbury and Latitude. His music is accessible yet distinctive - I guess what [...]

If the present-day fixation on folk and all its trappings is anything to go by, this young troubadour from the Welsh valleys and his acoustic guitar-plus-MacBook kit deserve to be taken seriously. But such I Was A Cub Scout-Lite that relentlessly falls short of unearthing an actual chorus line does not. "Hi my names' Rod Thomas and this is what I sound like," he declared at London's Water Rats theatre a couple weeks back. Synth-stodgy loops that even Joseph Arthur does better? Soppy lust songs that dare touch the class of Marling and Flynn? A puzzling conclusion of solely Thomas [...]

Sam Isaac will be releasing a new EP in two weeks from now called "Sticker Star And Tape" (released via Alcopop Records on 29th September). We got hold of two remixes of the title track for you and since one of them is from one of our favorites, James Yuill, we jumped all over it. I love singer songwriters. My second favourite musician of all time is David Gray. Deal with it. Gray is a woefully misunderstood artist, and has a knack for light and shade, lyrical prowess and an ear for a hook. He's released six outragously great albums. Judge him on 'Babylon' at your peril. 'But what's all this David Gray talk doing on New Music Friday?' I hear you cry. Good question! Well, its merely important preamble. I am, this said, very picky about my singer songwriters. I dislike most. Rod Thomas, however, is a singer songwriter originating from South Wales, who [...]

Rod Thomas There are times when I want to shoot my head whenever I heard a song (believe me i do this always and i don't know why). Now its either I cant contain myself on how beautiful the song is or my brain couldn't possibly contemplate why the song was made in the first place. Rod Thomas definitely is in the first category. With a name slightly familiar with a mainstream artist, one might just skim his name. He, definitely deserves some fuss with his fresh, upbeat and utterly almost-perfect sound. Don't take my [...]

It feels odd that this is my first festival review on funfunfun. I w ent to Reading for six consecutive years in my teens but since starting this blog my summer's have been barren. I wouldn't have gone to Green Man if it weren't my brother, Joss. He's been working at festivals for the last two summers and with his position at Green Man he was given a +1, which he generously offered to me. I snapped it up in an instant. For his kindness i thought i'd give him, and his girlfriend [...]

I'm a singer/songwriter who grew up between two villages in the South Wales valleys with not much else to do but learn how to play a number of instruments and start to write my own songs. I set up my own label Self Raising Records in 2006 and put out my first 73 'Good Coat' which had lots of nice things said about it. Since then I've put out two other songs as limited releases - 'You Get Goodbyes' which got lots of radio play (thanks to everyone who supported) and 'Your Love Is A Tease' whose [...]

It's my lunch break and I've been reading about Public Health Care reform and the working poor for three and a half hours. Did you know almost half of high-work, low income families have three or more children , as opposed to moderate-work, low income families who favor one? That's just crazy . You're telling me if I work less, statistically I'd favor having less children? JACKPOT ! Now, if I were a parent in that unfortunate multiple child senario, I'd be faced with two [...]
Rod Thomas has quite the unfortunate name. When googled the good folks at Google assume you're mistaken in spelling his name and instead try to lead you to Rob Thomas {which is not quite the same thing}. On hype and elbows I'm quite certain that most people will simply skim over his name due to, again, this unfortunate association. It really is unfortunate because Rod creates a smooth sytle of indie pop that is oft sought after in today's market. And he recently played a show with one of my favorites, Broadcast 2000 , [...]

So somewhere I read that this fellow was born between two villages in South Wales. That's between two villages , now if you're born between two villages, it's pretty much granted that you're going to have to gain a hobby. Luck for us, Rod Thomas chose music. This charmer I figure was a big fish in a small pond, and thus relocated to the oceanic metropolis that is London where he was then discovered by a contributing writer to the Londonist while busking in the Underground at Trentham Court Station - and now [...]
