Such a great thrift store find. More scans to come if you don't have this one already. The last paragraph of the 31 page book kills me: In just a few days he has learned to be a safe and careful camper. He has also enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors. With his brother, sister, and parents, Rob now feels at home in the wilderness. MP3: Roger Joseph Manning Jr. - Wish It Would Rain
These eleven artists were all featured in the past, most several years ago. Yet there's always a topical excuse to revisit something memorable. Combine this mix with rewards you can win from Caesars Entertainment's ''Total Rewards" program, and you're set for a damn good time
It is far from being a very original tune, but a song with the line "She doesn't like Jeff Lynne" deserves to be played over band over. Besides the funny lyrics dedicated to a lovely cat, She's Not A Human Being is fairly happy sing-along power pop song recorded by Esa Linna with the help [...]
One of the things I love about doing the Friday Fix is the feedback I get from folks. Especially if they live in the same town/state/country as the band, and take pride in that. Even better when they recommend artists to check out! I have no idea where I'm going with this...after all, it's early Friday morning and I'm jonesin' for the weekend. So, enough talk. On with the music! Roger Joseph Manning Jr. - Down In Front (2008, Los Angeles, California) Roger Joseph Manning Jr.'s music can best be described [...]
Like Kurt Vonnegut's Billy Pilgrim, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. often seems to be unstuck in time, whether in the groovy, psychedelic '90s (with Jellyfish and Moog Cookbook) or the prog-rock '00s (with Malibu and as a keyboardist for Air). Manning—who's also played with Beck and recently released the glam/psych solo album Catnip Dynamite (download "Down [...]

Ever since posting last weeks Friday Fix, I've been on a bit of a nostalgic kick, listening to some old favorites. So, that explains the older songs in this weeks fix. The other stuff, well, I hope you enjoy! This weeks Friday Fix is coming from all over the place, so look out. ;) Saint Etienne - Stormtrooper in Drag (1997, UK) Off of my one of my all time favorite tribute albums of all time, Saint Etienne covers for us "Stormtrooper in Drag" by Gary Numan. I totally love the [...]

As far as i'm concerned, this week's releases begins and ends with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's debut. I've been pretty vocal about how great this band is over the past year or so, and after several singles and EPs, this album doesn't disappoint in the slightest. You won't hear a better pure indiepop album this year, so I recommend you pick this one up immediately. If you want to get a little more familiar with the band, read the interview I did with them a couple [...]

[Catching up on a batch of album releases by SoCal artists ...] Go West Young Man , "Go West Young Man" (today, One Cell Records ) — Melody merchant Damin Suarez (ex-the Fictions) has crafted an homage to classic pop that pushes the same buttons as the likes of Elvis Costello, Ben Folds and a host of '60s and '70s hitmakers who used [...]
![Nine Reasons That Pop Music Might Get Better This Year (No, Really!) [Get Optimistic]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1435078_lg.jpg)
As 2008 recedes in our collective rearview mirror, the headlines trumpeting bad news are still there: record sales are lousier than ever , the economy sucks, record executives are still trying to flog the Pussycat Dolls . But there are still reasons to be excited by what's to come in the probably contracting, definitely shapeshifting world of pop music. Nine things to look forward to today and in the 364 days that follow after the jump! 1. New albums by Franz Ferdinand, Bruce Springsteen, Roger Manning Jr., Lily Allen, Erykah [...]

Jellyfish fans will be elated to head that Roger Joseph Manning Jr. will be releasing a new album on February 3...or will they? Check out the song I've shared below and let us know if this is something you'll be going to the record store to purchase or ignoring like that potato chip under your coffee table (I see it). The new album is titled Catnip Dynamite and will be released by Oglio Records. Roger performed and recorded every aspect of the album short of mixing it. "I know all the greatest players in [...]

Pop-pianist extraordinaire Roger Joseph Manning Jr. has released another scrumptious pop opus with Catnip Dynamite . Full of quirky kazoos and fanciful track titles, Catnip Dynamite should exude total cheesiness and yet it comes across as thoroughly interesting and entertaining. The wide-eyed cheeriness of Manning Jr.'s voice is truly original, while his pop sensibilities are a cross between that of Elton John and classic 70's TV show themes. If you're at all familiar with The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, that might give you an idea to the actual sound of Catnip Dynamite , but in [...]

After over twenty years working with dozens of successful bands such as Jellyfish to Beck, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. is finally releasing his first solo album. Manning made his first mark with Jellyfish in the early 90s, who were an overlooked band with two great albums and a succession of singles. I posted about them here with a few mp3s. Being a talented multi-instrumentalist, Manning always had a project to contribute to. After Jellyfish's disbandment in 1994, Manning was at the forefront of the synth-based Moog Cookbook , Imperial Drag (with half the members from [...]
