I ignored Rogue Wave's latest sub pop release, Descend Like Vultures , for the better part of a year-and-a-half, which was a complete mistake on my part. News reaches us that Rogue Wave are to return on September 18th with their third release entitled Asleep At Heaven's Gate . The albums birth came after a rather traumatic year for the band, that saw the drummer having a kidney transplant and the keyboardist losing his father. Drummer Pat Spurgeon had a kidney transplant, keyboardist Gram Lebron's father passed away, singer Zach Rogue fathered a daughter and the band recruited a new bass player, Patrick Abernethy (formerly of Beulah ). Nirvana is one of those bands who only certain people can cover well, but that doesn't stop many of them from trying. I'd venture to say that they are the most covered 90's era band. I'm going to try to get through this post without comparing Rogue Wave to The Shins, since they seem to get that a lot. From Oakland CA, Rogue Wave creates a signature sound of light guitar strokes/drum beats, and applies it to relaxed and upbeat tempos.
