Sure, the new Rogue Wave album is a tad poppy. 'Tis all right. Does it affect me? No. Am I a pussy? Perhaps. Am I in love with the album? You're god damn right I am. From the get goin' they have you on your feet with Solitary Gun, which round houses you to the dome [...]
Before you go lauding MGMT for cornering their own brand of synthified indie pop, you should understand that Rogue Wave has been fingering the knobs since aught two. This Saturday, they'll bring the show to Neumo's in support of their latest release, Permalight. . I'm not too proud to admit that Pandora radio introduced me to this band. I've never seen them live but this band covers so much ground that I feel pretty confident recommending them. Just from what I've heard, I can anticipate a very diverse show [...]
Erik Hall has had his share in the music biz, playing with NOMO and Saturday Looks Good to Me . Now, he's set to release his own album under the name In Tall Buildings , which comes out this week on Whistler Records . This track sort of has the old feel of Rogue Wave , but you can tell that Hall spends his time dabbling with every instrument possible. It's full of layers, but in the sort of [...]
Throughout the 1990s Perry Farrell's traveling Lollapalooza festival was a staple of the summer concert season bringing together an eclectic mix of acts from the worlds of alt.rock, metal, hip hop and punk. Since returning in 2005 as a multi-day destination festival, Lolla has cemented itself as one of the premiere US festivals, and after last week's "hangman" line up tease fest organizers have unveiled this year's initial batch of artists that will descend onto multiple stages at Grant Park in the Windy City. [...]
After a week of guessing without Vanna White or pat Sajak, the lineup for Lollapalooza 2010 has been released. Many are not a surprise, where others that were undecipherable, made many elated. Drum roll and here are B-Sides highlights: Grunge stalwarts, Soundgarden will be joined by Lady Gaga, Green Day, Arcade Fire, the Strokes, and Phoenix as headliners at the midwest mega-music festival, at Chicago's Grant Park August 6-8. Other artists that will add to many a memorable night's worth of music include, MGMT, Spoon, Metric, Devo, Social Distortion, the National, Cypress Hill, [...]
HIGHLY REC'D is an unofficial monthly newsletter/mixtape that comes to my inbox on the first of every month full of great tunes that come, well, highly recommended. April 2010's HIGHLY REC'D mixtape is quite good, featuring new songs from The Morning Benders, Rogue Wave, Free Energy, She & Him, and many more. Here is the tracklist: 1. Fang Island - Welcome Wagon 2. Kiss Kiss Kiss - Miss Meredith 3. The Silver - The Signs 4. The Royal Chains - [...]
F ound myself in Austin this past weekend. A week after SXSW ... I've already done the festival over 5 times, and while I still love aspects of it, it was nice to see the city at it's normal pace. My cousin lives there, and showed me around. He's falling in love with it, and starting to build a little empire for himself. It's important to get away. Going to a place full of positive energy, and interesting things going on helps heal you. If only for a few days. [...]
Drive-By Truckers - The Big To-Do (* * * 1/2) Eight albums in and the Drive-By Truckers are still going strong. The Big To-Do is a little shorter and more focused than many of the band's previous efforts, and though it's also a bit less consistent there's little to really complain about as the songwriting and musicianship are mostly top notch. "The Fourth Night of My Drinking" is a typically bleak, yet insightful Truckers song, as is the dark "The Wig He Made Her Wear," but tunes like [...]
Awesome episode for Chuck Fans! and more importantly for music fans as well. The latest episode of season 3's Chuck featured music soundtrack by relatively fresh new songs from indie/upcoming artists Rogue Wave and Austin Hartley-Leonard & Kendall Jane Meade . What conflict surrounds him on Episode 11 Chuck Vs The Final Exam? Well as any student trying to become a master in the craft, the final exam represents the last and ultimate obstacle he needs to conquer in order to become a spy. At the end of the episode Chuck [...]

Best Songs of 2010 (So Far)
Filed under: The Hit List On Wall Street, quarterly reports show how investments have fared during three-month increments. But here at Spinner, we like to take stock in music. And if the first quarter is any indication, 2010 should be a robust year. Some of the new year's most successful acts are still on a roll from 2009, of course. But others have launched with the new decade. Here are 20 of our favorite songs that rose in popularity the first three months of this year. [...]

Chuck vs the Final Exam: The Naked Spy
The continued 'changed man' theme continues with "Final Exam," with Chuck at the precipice of spyhood, and Casey changing under the tutelage of Big Mike-ness. Something about this episode felt like a betrayal, like machines are in motion to make sure that Chuck and Sarah have further 'trials' before finally getting together. For three seasons now, it's worked like clockwork. Chuck gets close to Sarah and something stops them before words and/or action occurs. Then a bigger obstacle is thrown in their path. Rinse and repeat. At this point, I could care less if they get [...]
Ear on TV: Week of 03.22.10: Rogue Wave
If there's a band that's the poster child for the need for Health Care reform, it's the Bay Area's Rogue Wave. In the past few years, frontman and songwriter Zach Rogue (aka Zach Schwartz) has gone through career-threatening spinal injury (which he still has a numb right hand from) and drummer Pat Spurgeon had to deal with kidney failure. The band toured with Spurgeon getting twice a day dialysis, while patiently waiting for a kidney that was feared would never come. The whole experience was documented in the documentary D Tour (scroll down for [...]
