Clapton Fox puts you in that autumn mood. MGMT - Time To Pretend's evil twin, the album 'Amazing Thunderstorm' is deep, dark and damn right devious. If you're anything like me one of the first things you'll do when contemplating the purchase of an album is read the track titles. You'll quickly notice that 'Twelve Pairs of Shoes' sounds like the title of a Rolf Harris song, right? Well actually it's surprisingly appropriate... Read more..
In celebration of the upcoming 200th Sunday Mix Tape, I've decided to spend a few days this week taking a leisurely stroll down memory lane. My memory's lane. I've compiled 199 official Sunday Mix Tapes as well as a few compilations that arrived on a Monday or other random day. It's time to take a look back and examine why this feature has become such a huge success. Since I can't post 200 MP3s this week, I'm going to list what is - in my opinion - the standout track from each installment of the series. About half [...]

by teepoo Metal meets country, pop meets industrial. Whatever the clash there's nothing quite like a bizarre cover version that leaves you slack-jawed with amazement. 1. Hayseed Dixie- Ace of Spades (Motorhead cover) 2. Albert Kuvezin & Yat-Kha - Love Will Tear Us Apart 3. William Shatner- Common People (Pulp Cover) [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK After throwing open the doors on Wednesday -- since then the entertainment has included England's World Cup match against Slovenia, a set from rapper Vanilla Ice and the hilarious harmonies of the band Dog Salad -- the 2010 edition of the Glastonbury Festival was kicked off by Australian artists, wit, raconteur and all-round-entertainer Rolf Harris . Harris drew the kind of crowd that most headliners could only dream of. The 80-year-old played all the hits [...]

Saturday was our two year immi-versary, the anniversary of our immigration to Australia. I stumbled off of a 24 hour flight into to the blazing South Australian with Dr. O'C and a seven month old Boy Z. I'd never been to Australia and despite befriending several natives (including the one I had lived with for seven years) and doing extensive research into my Antipodean future home, I hadn't a clue what to expect of the place. I was jobless, carless and clueless. It certainly wasn't my first move, it wasn't even my first international move. But I've never felt so [...]

I've been trying for a few weeks to get a decent picture of both boys for my office. This, seemingly, is an impossible task. I can get photos in which one of them looks good - looking at the camera with a smile of sorts - but none in which they both look good. Typically Boy Z has a dummy stuck in his mouth or Not Max is crying or Boy Z is pashing his brother or Not Max has a look of terror on his face. They're most uncooperative little boys. I try to explain to them [...]

This weekend I'm going to be checking out loads of acts taking part at one of the largest music festivals in the world: Glastonbury. The good news is that I won't have to worry about getting caught in the rain, paying for over-priced food and beverages, and lugging a tent and sleeping bag around for the weekend. Thanks to the BBC , I'll be able to watch highlights and full performances from the comfort of my own living room. Thank you very much, the BBC! The only downside is that I'm going to have to listen to [...]

You know the one - "Two little boys had two little toys, each had a wooden horse..." . Most people of a certain age in the UK, will know it as a 1969/1970 Rolf Harris hit, successfully covered in 1980 by Splodgenessabounds. What I didn't know, was that Kenny Rogers & The First Edition did a version on their '71 album - Transition, or that the song was written, twice... over one hundred years ago. This tune first surfaced in 1903, and was a popular recording by Billy Murray. Edward Madden wrote the lyrics, [...]

#8 in an occasional series - more story songs on How Marvellous... You know the one - "Two little boys had two little toys, each had a wooden horse..." . After a fun-filled week which sadly involved no posting at all, it's time for what I predict to be one of the most popular Saturday Covers so far. So what have I been doing all week that's taken up all the free time I would otherwise have for posting and doing other nerdy activities? I've actually been involved in a production of We Will Rock You . I expect I'll do a post about the actual musical soon, because after being involved in it I've formed some particularly strong opinions about the plot - and they're not [...]
It was overdue: Rolf Harris had finally getting round to saying 'sorry' for the line about Abos in Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport . And, perhaps, it might just have worked, had he not decided to head off on an explanation of What Is Wrong With Aborigines: 'You sit at home watching the television and you think to yourself, "Get up off your arse and clean up the streets your bloody self" and why would you expect somebody to come in and clean up your garbage, which you've dumped everywhere? 'But then you have to think that [...]

This is Pete Kember's (aka Sonic Boom, founding member of Spacemen 3) compilation of some of his favorite songs and influences, which he originally aired during a DJ set on UK radio, but has since compiled into a CD and double LP set. The package comes with liner notes describing the selections and why they were so inspiring. For example, Kember says of The Staples Singers' tune "This May Be The Last Time," "This Gospel gem, I believe written by Bobby Womack, is obviously the root of the Stones hit from '65. Pop Staples remains for me the greatest unsung [...]
Apologies for not writing a second entry last night, but I got kind of drunk and was too tired to type. Ken and Jack procured a bottle of vodka and two six packs of beer, which the three of us worked our way through while watching the Mets lose to the Dodgers (ugh). We were joined by Matt, and the four of us decided to shoot some pool with the remainder of our evening. By the time we were kicked out by an angry old man guard, we were in varying stages of intoxication. Someone (Jack?) [...]

I was going to upload a strange cabaret song I found by Maltese singer Amadeo Carmel called My London when it suddenly occurred to me just how many odd/quirky London-themed singles and album tracks I had in my collection. So I decided to make up a themed compilation to highlight some artists you don't see every day and their unusual interpretations on different/unusual areas of London. Some of them are comedy songs, some of them are deadly serious. A couple of them are just deadly! You could call it Capitol punishment... We kick off with Swinging London by [...]
In an alternative world yesterday's announcement would have run something along the lines of the following: "Huge pirate music site legitimised and integrated in new BFI distribution network." "Users encouraged to keep torrents open to distribute obscure content for credit and first listens to new work." "24-year-old man from Middlesbrough given 'Extremely lucrative' position as new music distribution method administrator reporting to Shawn Fanning, head of IFPI." I'm not an artist, merely someone that likes music to the point where I like to share it with anyone that is willing to listen. [...]
