To be honest I'm looking for motivation to get back into the 4 strings thinking. Besides literally trying to find the bandwidth to do it right with Eastern Anchors . I'm not sure why you'd need more inspiration than bands like Girls Against Boys for inspiration in particular when there is awesome tone, tube amps and distortion pedals are at play on every song. GvsB were a innovator in this spectrum of rock, however there are a crap load of other bass players who's bass licks are just as stellar. Kill the Sexplayer [...]

City Gardens Riot on The Dance Floor film skate deck As hard as we may try to write about new music the past keep coming up again and again like unwanted overgrown hair and reminds me just how truly awesome things were way back when the slang "that was so 10 minutes ago..." never crossed our minds because the landscape of haircuts were so diverse from band to band and scene to scene. We were constantly consuming so much great music at such a rate that personally I think you'd be a fool to stay [...]

So the news is True. Henry Rollins has picked up his pros again in the form of a L.A. Weekly music column. To add a element of professionalism he also has twitter account and a saturday night radio show on KCRW . Holy fucking shit. Yes it happened - he's back and burning on all cylinders. In his first column he writes about outsider music - or some lonely hippies he remembers who would not join the party inside the house. He brings up Diamanda Galas as having turned him on to such music as [...]

What? How did this happen all of a sudden? Sort of rellavation that two very different musical trail blazers turned 50 this year along with many other singing alternative icons. Daniel Johnston's Birthday was in January and Henry Rollins's was 02.13.61 to be exact. I know this because it says it on the spine of the Black Flag tour diary he wrote called Get In The Van |||| . Fast forward and the Rollins Band is playing a show at The Fastlane II in Asbury Park and he mentions he [...]
Let the Devil out Rollins Band Nice Comments: Rollins Band does Van Halen , poorly. Joe#1 Fugazi Sub Pop 7" Singles Club Comments: Fugazi's entrant into the Sub Pop singles club is not interesting or challenging. Sinking Black Flag Loose Nut Comments: Probably the best song off Loose Nut. The short uneven album came at the end of Black Flag. Still this song about descent into isolation and depression is prophetic. Vikings [...]
"No help topics found?! You heap of garbage. You can't help me with that?" -- Tom, criticizing his unresponsive Macintosh computore "Without his tireless efforts, this show would not exist. Well, actually, it would exist, but it would really stink." -- Tom, praising the production work of David in D.C. "Yeah, the guy dances around and smokes cigarettes. Puts that, uh, clown makeup on in the mirror. Gets heart surgery." -- Tom, figuring out Fosse "What are you talking about ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" -- Neil Mahoney, [...]
Ever wondered what would happen if Glenn Danzig and Henry Rollins were....ahem...."very special friends", and shared a house together, next door to their Satan-worshipping neighbours, Hall & Oates? And wouldn't a cartoon of their (anti-)Christmas horseplay be just the thing to get you going on a brisk Monday morning in December? Well, technically it's just a [...]
I'm not old enough to have seen Black Flag in any incarnation, including the tenure of the tormented Henry Rollins. Yet like many angst-ridden teens in the 90s, I eagerly digested whatever "buzzworthy" videos MTV had in their bin, and that of course included Rollins Band's breakthrough clip for "Liar". A brilliant fusion of his [...]

Court will come to order. This is somewhat embarrassing for me but I have a confession to make. Even though I am a big fan of old school punk rock, I only recently bought a copy of The First Four Years from Black Flag . I know, I know! Shame washes over me in waves, but hold on a second before you pass sentence. Allow me an attempt to defend myself. I may not have owned the originals, but that does not mean I have been unfamiliar with many of the [...]

ZINE COMIC REVIEW: Henry & Glenn Forever is no Boiled Angel or Judy Blume but it is pretty funny I will admit. I could not resist the premise of a couple 90's indie superstars being wrung through the muck by some punk ( Tom Neely ). The diary entries and notes between characters are the funniest part which are hand scribbled. The artwork for exception of a few panels and cover is not so great sorry to say. The cover has obvious Pettibon sensibility and reference to Family Man spoken [...]

Henry Rollins (born February 13, 1961 as Henry Lawrence Garfield) is an American singer-songwriter, spoken word artist, writer, publisher, actor, radio DJ, and activist...and on and on...He's even a movie actor! The guy is a workaholic. I didn't speak to anyone today. Not one phone call, nothing. I only saw a few people in traffic and a woman who pulled over across the street from where I live get out and vomit on the ground. I heard her talking to someone else in the car. She sounded pretty drunk. I don't [...]
On Sons of Anarchy , Henry Rollins ' character is completely unlike the legendary rocker. But the creative dynamo is so convincing that it's hard to separate fact from fiction. Thankfully, he's going to give us something we truly appreciate about Rollins other than his Black Flag and Rollins Band work: His dark and often humorous spoken word performances. And you can get in on the action when Rollins "Frequent Flyer" tour hits North America hard in 2010. The tour kicks off January 12th in Dublin, Ireland and winds its way [...]

I can't say I've followed everything that Jello Biafra's done post-Dead Kennedys, but I was quite excited when I heard that Faith No More bassist Billy Gould is part of his new band The Guantanamo School of Medicine. Those familiar with Jello's two collaborative albums with the Melvins (2004's Never Breathe What You Can't [...]

DOWNLOAD: Gore - "Search Love" (MP3) (track hosted on SouthernLord.com ) Southern Lord has done a fabulous job resurrecting the first two CDs from Dutch dirge/instrumental rock band Gore. Southern Lord has packaged the band's first two discs, Hart Gore (1986) and Mean Man's Dream (1987) as a 2-CD set and each disc includes bonus tracks that amount to an "alternate" version, composed of live and demo tracks, of each of the studio LPs. For anyone not familiar with [...]

With the breakup of Black Flag in 1986 and the solo career of Henry Rollins taking flight shortly thereafter, the release of The End of Silence in 1992 saw Rollins Band kiss the sun. This is an album that turned heads unlike his previous "solo" releases. The End of Silence is akin to a wide opened, gaping wound being repeatedly bumped into the corner of a wall. It's raw and when poked . . . it hurts. It's bursting with emotional intensity both as a personal introspection as well as [...]
MUSIC NEWS - Punk rock icon, actor, author, TV host and self-described "graying foreign correspondent" Henry Rollins (Black Flag, Rollins Band) returns to the airways at the station where he got his start in radio, hosting a KCRW (Santa Monica, CA public radio) music show that will feature "a great mix of all kinds from all over from all time." It will air live, on air at 89.9 FM and online at KCRW.com beginning this Saturday night (March 7) from 6 to 8pm . The shows will [...]
At Christmas, I gave myself and my family the gift that is Tommy Wiseau's The Room . I'd long heard the hubbub , but the DVD isn't on Netflix (it's only $8.99 at Amazon , an encouraging price for the curious, smart move; also: the film will apparently be shown on March 20th at the Village East ) and the title's just not as enticing as Troll 2 or Manos: The Hands of Fate . It's just as wonderful as either of those. [...]
