88 days were just asked about our top 10 albums of 2008. We put our heads together, and now we're happy with this. To be honest, we're not really ones for looking at releases in terms of calendar years. We get lost. And we get stuck listening to our Roxy Music records and missing every new release for two months. But we'll play the game, if you ask. Portishead - Third [ amazon / iTunes / Rough Trade ] Lulu Rouge - Bless You [ amazon / iTunes [...]

Gig Of The Week: Genghis Tron, Behold The Arctopus, Rolo Tomassi , The Network - The Underworld Prepare for supreme noise making at Underworld on Saturday as Americans Genghis Tron follow up their European stint with The Faint with a short UK tour. Backed by a multi-talented string of bands, not least Sheffield stars Rolo Tomassi (for the London show only), the potential of this night is stellar. This amazing line up is unbelievably not sold out - and under a tenner face value! Tickets: See [...]

>> Tomorrow Edmonton-based indie quintet Faunts issue a digital-only set of remixes, the more ethereal of which (Mark Templeton's gauzy remix of "Places I've Found" in particular) were the perfect soundtrack for Sunday morning coffee. The obviously titled Faunts Remixed contains 14 tracks pulled from the band's first two records, High Expectations/Low Results and the M4 EP. Remixers include Cadence Weapon , a fellow from the jarringly named Shout Out Out Out Out and Faunts themselves. Friendly Fire is offering two MP3s to tease the release, and [...]

Righto, so i've been a busy young man for the last month or so to the point where i haven't even managed to sleep at home for that whole period. Nice. Part of the reason for this was my last minute trip out to ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) which has rapidly become one of the most important conferences for dance music in the world. Go Amsterdam. I left, after about an hours sleep straight off the back of October's Voodoo, for Heathrow at about five am and [...]
Psychic Ills' Mirror Eye is the spooky echo of a murky nightmare and the shapeless forms lurking in its periphery, reverberating steps down cobbled ways, a Walpurgisnacht happening in the forests of the Twin Peaks soundtracked with a ghostly psychedelia that reminds us of Wooden Shjips at their codeine-intoxicated best, ...

NEW BAND CHEER: ROLO TOMASSI Ripping and snarling their way out of Sheffield, UK, prog-punksters and mathcore musicians Rolo Tomassi astounded us recently with their combination of hardcore punk shrieks and guitar manipulation the likes of which we've never heard. Imagine the music of Mars Volta, throw in the wails and vocal bizarreness of Ponytail, apply the thrash elements of Converge liberally, and wrap it up with Be Your Own Pet as the bow on top and that's Rolo in a nutshell. Helmed by Eva Spence and quickly becoming an [...]

I've been sitting here in bed listening to Scabs on repeat for about half an hour and I still can't work out a word to describe it that would do it justice. Taken from their debut LP, Hysterics , Rolo Tomassi have created a morphing, thrilling, incredibly intense track that doesn't seem to stay still for a second. It almost feels as if the act of listening to the track could change the way it is heard. Its not an easy listen with fractured guitars and scratched vocals at its forefront and the off-kilter keys [...]
Concluding a Sunday spent being shouted at by Rolo Tomassi, here's a slice of their Camden Crawl gig from earlier in the year: [Part of the Rolo Tomassi weekend ]
Two tracks from a Rolo Tomassi set in Mansfield: Fuck The Pleasantries, and Hiroshima 8.16: [Part of the Rolo Tomassi weekend ]
YouTube offers the description "Operativ v Rolo Tomassi" and nothing more: [Part of the Rolo Tomassi weekend ]
Something of a shift in gears from yesterday's Chris TT extravangza, as we turn from southern singer-songwriters to northern indie-punk, and Sheffield's Rolo Tomassi. Apparently some sort of mix of sponsorship and legislation has combined which insists that anything that is liable to polarise opinion has to be described as being "like Marmite", but I don't think that the modern standard of take-it-or-leave-it will cover the effect of being hit by RT. Splendidly, Wikipedia snorts that, in the wisdom of crowd's opinion, Rolo Tomassi might not be "notable" enough to warrant an entry in [...]
Waaaaait a second... you're telling me that this blood curling screaming in UK's Rolo Tomassi is NOT a banshee being beaten with a wire coat hanger, but is actually human? And then you're going to tell me it's a girl doing all this? I think I need to lie down. The experimental music could best be described as somewhere between heavy hardcore and an orgy in the 8th layer of hell. While I

Written by CC and James of Bare Knuckle Reviews It takes a force of 2 to review an album as mental as this. We are of course talking about 'Hysterics', the debut album from Sheffield b ased Rolo Tomassi. It's hard to believe their widely recognised self-titled EP was released two years ago, as the band themselves are still pretty young. Now with their first full length, they can really show what they're made of - and they haven't dissapointed. Previous releases were on up and coming label Holy Roar, home [...]
