01. Hercules & Love Affair, "My House" [Mochi Mochi Recordings] ( buy ) Although Hercules & Love Affair is best known as a disco group, Andrew Butler often worked elements of influential American house music into their songs. In fact the band's first single since 2008 is the spiritual successor to their charged Chicago house track, "You Belong." "My House" seems to inch forward in time to the late '80s and early '90s and integrates touches of a New York sound in its Windy City foundation. Its mellifluous bass and dexterous percussion form [...]

[ Dial ] ( buy vinyl ) ( buy mp3s ) Whoever wrote Roman Flügel's Discogs entry was right when they referred to him as a "chameleon." The man's been behind everything from big-room club hits to whimsical, serpentine house experiments, and remains as difficult to pin down as anyone working in dance music today. Nevertheless, a Flügel release on the Dial label is a perplexing prospect because Dial doesn't exactly do chameleonic. Nuanced as it is, the label's roster prides itself on consistent aesthetics, generally conforming to a specific bell-laden, bluesy [...]

I've had the privilege of experiencing this German producer live. He is awesome, at least that day. He is perhaps best known for his track: Geht's Noch, which was released on Cocoon Recordings . But I've most of all admired him for this number. I've heard it hundreds of times in the late evening hours or early morning hours, call it what you want.;) Roman Flügel, Pattern 7 Download here (Right Click, Save As). I also had the honor to [...]

Roman Flügel is one of those producers whose multifaceted career makes him difficult to describe narrowly, so I'll stick with two simple truths: his 15 years spent making electronic music have proven him to be courageous and innovative. Never one to shy away from new sounds, Flügel has tackled everything from tribal house to experimental electronic jazz. But his most lasting project have been equally bold, from the serrated edged techno/electro of Alter Ego to the soothing scope of Sensorama (both in partnership with Jörn Elling Wuttke), from reduced house as Soylent Green to the IDM-flecked downtempo created as Eight [...]

[ Turbo ] ( buy vinyl ) (buy mp3s tk) It seems reasonable after 20 plus prolific years spent producing music that Roman Flügel's recent solo output has slowed to a trickle. This isn't to say the many monikered producer has been resting on his laurels - the excellent "Neues Testament" EP under the long dormant Roman IV guise puts paid to that notion - but the venerable producer just doesn't need 10 to 15 releases per year to retain top billing. Yet you can hardly blame Flügel's [...]
