Son dernier album, Exit Strategy of the Soul [...]

Photography by DalaiHarma I'll be honest.... I saved this one for today. For some reason, in my brain, the Friday posts have a little more gravitas about them. I have no idea why, and it's probably not true. Either way, as some of you may know, there's a special place in my ears for Ron Sexsmith. Ever since stumbling upon him (because, that's how you find Sexsmith, you stumble upon him, he's been putting out amazing album after album since, well technically, since 1985, but a little more officially [...]

No Graboid last week since there was pretty much nothing worth mentioning; though, this week brings us the highly anticipated eighth studio album, Modern Guilt , from Beck . Haven't had a chance to listen to this one yet, but i'm always anxious to hear how Beck has managed to reinvent his sound which each new album. A couple of other releases worth mentioning include Ratatat's very solid LP3 , Albert Hammond, Jr's Como Te Llama? , Sunny Day Sets Fire's Summer Palace , and an EP from [...]

Ron Sexsmith is 44 years old and still is waiting to hit it big. His records have been applauded by the likes of Elvis Costello, Steve Earl, and Paul McCartney and his songs have been covered by artists such as Rod Stewart and Feist. Come August 8th, Ron Sexsmith will release his new album, Exit Strategy of the Soul . Ron's Pop-Folk style in this album seems has fallen into a darker realm that he calls "shadowed gospel". This new found style is heard through the albums single, "This is How I Know", and even the more light-hearted [...]
Just wanted to share a couple tracks with you on this glorious day: The Invisible - London Girl Ron Sexsmith - Brandy Alexander (Note: Sexsmith wrote this song for Feist, mind you!) Toodles!

I've been writing about Canadian singer songwriter Ron Sexsmith since I started this blog. He, along with Rufus Wainwright and Josh Rouse (and what the heck - Josh Ritter), is at the very pinnacle of his songwriting prowess and his music (which is a mix of folk, rock, soul and pop) has reached its zenith. I wrote about and linked to a song off of Ron's new record back on May 21st and now I'm back with the much ballyhoed song "Brandy Alexander" co-written by Feist and inspired by a story [...]

Wolf Parade's At Mount Zoomer , the excellent follow up to Apologies To The Queen Mary , is out on Sub Pop in just a couple of days (6/17). We've posted " Call It A Ritual " and given you the map to " Language City ," but if you haven't had a chance to listen to all nine tracks yet, the whole album's streaming at the band's MySpace , "Kissing The Beehive" broken into two convenient sections. Also, the Zoomer cover art and that promo photo of the [...]
I'm sure everyone out there had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend, right? Right?? It sucked it Utah. So much for that extended weekend - it rained me in. Picnic in the garage? Are you kidding me? Yup, I was there. Well, dammit - now it's sunny. Anyways, I bring you 4 tracks that are hotter than liquid gold. Here's what the kids are talking about around the virtual water cooler: Travis - J. Smith Thanks to [...]

The rigors of travel, they slay me -- and tonight I find myself far from home. Doin' alright except for a slicing cut on my toe which makes everything involving walking and shoes difficult. Seems like I should have worn "real shoes," instead of pedi-vulnerable flipflops on my way to the capital. Thanks to everyone for the Washington DC recommendations , I look forward to trying out as many as I can squeeze into the midst of conferencing. More on my travel adventures later. When I can connect to the hotel wireless, here are a few new [...]

Imaginary friends They will always let you down And when all the good times end You won't be seeing them around For they run where the action is And they'll cross you off their list Do you comprehend now To imaginary friends You don't exist No They'll ask you where you've been [...]

In celebration of the return of the greatest thing to happen to the serial drama since, well, the serial drama. Tonight (ABC - 8/7C) the writer's strike, a lack of award shows, and TV's general lacklusterness will all be washed away when JJ Abrams bathes us in his directorial beauty. Who will be rescued? Will anyone be rescued? Who was in the casket? Where are Jack & Kate in that flash back/flash forward? Who is the "he" Kate was referring to? God, the questions! [mp3] Elliott Smith - [...]
