This is the one I told you we'd all be singing this summer, please make me right! Loving the summer vibe of this one... vid's not all that special, but I love that it ties the old cricket match with reggae-tinged summer anthems as vital parts of the British summertime!
Here's the video to the nice new single to be taken from Roots Manuva's forthcoming Long P 'Slime and Reason'. On a reggae and cricket vibe (much like 10CC once were) this should do alright for itself. It actually sounds like a different, more straight instrumentalised version to the one that is on the advance copy of the album but promo tracklistings often differ so it remains to be seen which one is released as the single and which one is on the album. Stay tuned for a proper review of the full album (if I can find [...]

Acid Brass sent The KLF to the colliery, Senor Coconut turned Kraftwerk Latin, and now Christian Prommer is taking dance classics to the jazz club. From Jaydee's " Plastic Dreams " to Kraftwerks " Trans-Europe Express ", Prommer chooses ten of his favourite dance monsters from the last two decades and reinvents them using the piano, drums, percussion and bass of the jazz quartet. There's obviously a market (Volume 2 is to follow) for music that appeals to 30 and 40 somethings who now prefer dipping humous at diner parties to dropping acid at warehouse parties, but this [...]
First post in May, a month that has proven itself to be beautiful (weather-wise) so far, so I'm in that sunny mood despite the fact my car is intent on terminating its own existence and that someone I had a lot of love for passed away (Rest With God Baby Ali). A couple of tunes that I happen to have been sent at just the right time really fit my feelings at this time. Analogic & Rashid Hadee have a long player named 'Serenade For The Moment' coming and if [...]
My humble offerings, although my knowledge of the genre's pretty limited: I actually hadn't heard of El-P ( El-Producto ) until last year, when a friend recommended his latest album I'll Sleep When You're Dead to me. It's one of those albums I ended up listening to over and over again, all the way through, without skipping a single track - and I don't know about you, but there aren't that many albums in my collection that are solid enough to withstand [...]

Roots Manuva - Witness (Floorman MS20 Edit) This Roots classic gets a respectful extension by Nottingham-based producer Floorman who has started stealthily churning out all manner of editted goodess on his Floorman presents... blog. I would personally recommend the lovely, dubbed out edit of Caroline Crawford's Coming on Strong and the nice things he does with yet another Frankie Valli track. Anyway, Floorman puts in an extended intro and 'added filthiness' to an old-school [...]

In a bid to save my vinyl from physical assault by a stylus as old and wonky as a rusty nail I've avoided using my record decks for months now. Thankfully I'm now 50 quid lighter but in possession of two pristine needles, and a one huge backlog of lovely plastic to indulge in. (I realise I have posted at length about waving goodbye to analogue for ever... I lied). First up direct from Finland the wonderfully named Mighty Mo & The Winchester Seven turn out a phenomenally good deep funk cover of Melle Mel's " The Message [...]

Bradford Cox is surely the busiest man in Shoegaze Rock: The Atlas Sound record only came out in January & he is already preparing to release the new Deerhunter album, entitled ' Microcastles '. A fresh Deerhunter song appears on a new compilation called 'Living Bridge' on Rare Book Room Records. Also features tunes from Silver Jews, Black Dice, Fischerspooner amongst many, many others. Deerhunter & Atlas Sound are both on tour throughout the year, check their respective Myspace's for [...]
Me? Hip-hop? A genre I know absolutely nothing about, and can barely tolerate most of the time? Well yes, actually, this week on The Waiting Room I have a go at hip-hop. I fucking hate hip-hop with a passion for the most part, but this is basically due to the fact that it is a [...]

Audiversity's weekly column, slightly modified, on random music in a predetermined number of words between 1 & 150. This week's randomly generated number: 108. MA: Celebrating 10 years of innovative releases, Big Dada has compiled two discs of quintessential tracks and tougher to find cuts called Well Deep . Founded by hip-hop journalist Will Ashon and supported as Ninja Tune 's rap imprint, the British label came to define the underground UK rap scene in the late 90s and early 00s [...]

Today on The Magic Cauldron Radio Show, Shenanigans & Mittins finally met long lost Super-Friend Benji Jackson from The Bored Housewife Radio Show :O Event ! Benji stayed for a bit and spoke on the microphone with Shenanigans about British things. It was boring to Mittins, but that is what British is. Hahahaha. Just kiddies, old twiggies. Hopefully Benji will return soon for a proper visit. cvalda - bjork - selmasongs the con - tegan & sara - the con [...]
I really can't stand hip hop. Firstly, I really don't like the music. But most importantly I cannot stand the 'scene'. The posturing, the egomania, the desperate money-grubbing, the sort of pathetic terror of women that gets distorted into the bitches and hos aggression. The kind of machismo that is [...]

Live music time again. And some corkers for you tonight. All three tracks were given away free with The Observer a couple of weeks ago as part of a cd promoting The Big Ask , a climate change campaign set up by Friends Of The Earth . You may have heard about it as Thom Yorke is a big supporter of the campaign and has been quite verbal about the issue in the past. It's well worth taking the time to look around the site. Whether you believe the human race is to blame [...]
